Playground Installation

Recommended Posts

We've been asked to design/ install a small CCTV system(3 cameras each) at 2 local playgrounds to basically keep an eye on the equipment; the town police will be in charge of monitoring the systems. The police station is about 3 miles from the furthest park( no line of sight) and I was wondering if it would make sense to use long range wieless transmitters and house the DVRs at the station, or would it be better to simply house the equipment locally at ech park? As we are primarily a telephone interconnect we have no experience with wireless other then the manufacturer's info. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Tom O

Hi, no line of sight would require large towers which arent cheap.

it would make more sense to put in 2 seperate 4 channel DVRs at each location. Make it 4 cameras so its even, if even just adding a camera to watch the main office where the DVR is located.

Set up 2 PCs for remote monitoring at the police HQ .. 4 way view each one ... they'll be impressed.

if you use Geo for example (PC Based) then you could use the Center Software that comes with it for a 6 way view and so you could only use 3 cameras each if you wanted. Most other DVRs have a 4 way view, 9 way view, etc.

A decent option for a non PC based DVR would be the GE Dvrs like the StoreSafe 4 channels. They also have multi site software for remote viewing, though it is in 4 way, 16 way, 32 way, and 64 way. Ive installed these in the past where they were not locally viewed and they have been working for years and are still onlin without one service call in most instances, stuck in a closet with a Cable Router for example.

Went back and spoke with the PD and it looks like there will not be any type of broadand connection at either location, so there goes the remote monitoring.....unless we look at the wireles again. Also, what type on lightning protection should be used since the cables to the cameras will be underground, then run outside to the camera.

Thanks Again

Tom

id worry more about voltage spikes and brownouts over the chance of getting hit by lightning .. and then actually something that really protects it from lightning .. unless its going to be an all rubber housing and camera ...

It's going to cost WAY WAY more to use wireless than to just have the phone company put a line in for DSL. Depending where you are, the cost per year on the broadband will be something like 30-40% of the cost of ONE good wireless transmitter.
