Routing cables from loft to study.

Recommended Posts

So I have looked for a while, decided on a system and going to do the install myself, 8 cameras connected to a NVR recorder in the spare bedrrom/office.

I am going to use the loft for all the cable runs but my question is how does everyone get there cables from loft to a room below, any neat tricks or do have have to just cut a hole in the ceiling and run them all down through that maybe in some tubing of some sort.

Thanks in advance.

A Few of ways to do this.

#1 Use a stud finder and mark your studs, Then drop your wires in between the studs to a outlet box which you will need to buy plus cut your wall to fit, and get this box cover or similar:

I can snake 6 wires easily through this cover. Then a short run from the wall to the DVR

#2 call up a electrician that has a infrared camera that can see through walls but this can be costly.

#3 If you cant do those above there are cable management solutions (wire hiders you can buy at Walmart online or from other retailers.)

A few ideas here:

Assuming the Study/Office is on the first floor just poke a hole in the ceiling and bring the wires down the wall in the corner of the room. If you think this is unsightly just make a little boxing to box them in. The more neat permanent job you do the more you will curse yourself when you need to alter things a little

But the only prob ya have to worry about in going down the wall is if there is a fireblock in the middle,

That one 2x4 thats horizontal.

fish the wall if possible I just got a walabot which does a very good job of locating studs, wires and pipes and is only around 80.00 worth it to not deface the wall.

Hey,

I have question about walabot, which one are good to use?

Found this list off: http://jonsguide.org/best-walabot-review/

Just wanna use it for for internal works.
