Short video/power run question

Recommended Posts

First and foremost...I am an absolute newbie to this trying to learn and thank you in advance for any assistance.

I am running two analog bullet cams. Both runs are 25' and terminate on the outside of a waterproof box (covert project). My questions are:

1. What is the best way to run from camera to box? cat5/6 or siamese rg59? If cat5/6 would baluns be necessary for that short run? I'm trying to keep the overall bulk of the cabling down as much as possible.

2. at the termination point: can I utilize a multi-pin port to run power and video signal into the box (inside the box the port would then be wired to the dvr video input port. Would this single port idea create interference? Am I stuck using two termination ports per camera (power/video for each).

Thanks ... any suggestion given the above info would be greatly appreciated.

normally i reccommend using cat 5/6 for future but for two analog cameras I would run rg59/2/18ga.

for power if you don't plan on ever adding additional cameras you could get away with 2 cube ie wall wart power supplies they are under ten bucks each and should do the job. You would have to terminiate the ends with BNCs but their a many reliable methods to do this.
