Long time lurker, first time poster.

RS 485 has long been the way to control PTZ cameras, but recently UTC has been gaining ground and I love it.

But I have a problem with a new zoom camera, which is only UTC and I need it to be wireless.

Now, I have a wireless transmitter for RS485, but not UTC, so I'm thinking there might be a RS485 to UTC converter.

I have searched, but not found.

Does anyone know of it?

Alternatively, can someone point me in the right direction for the UTC protocols?

I might concider making my own.

What type is your new ptz .. ip or analog

Are you looking to connect to a pc

Camera is AHD with UTC only.

Hoping to be able to connect an RS485/Pelco D joystick to it, if possible

Ok makes sence.... So you don't have a PTZ camera ??

Your looking for control over the coax

Do you have data connection on your camera

Sorry for explaining badly.

In the system, I have several PTZ cameras, controlled by RS485/Pelco-D with joystick.

This new cameras requires me to use a secondary controller for UTC, which I find inconvenient.

Hi. Can you post a link to your camera

If you have a AHD camera then it should have data conection for ptz control

Utc control would not be needed for a ptz

Utc is a coax plug in for accessing osd on camera setup

Are all your cameras AHD

Wow talk about you confusing your own post.

So your not using a PTZ at all.

Are you using a AHD dvr ?? You don't need the UTC ..... Cam control is also on dvr

Sorry for the confusion.

The problem is still relevant even if this one camera only has the Z, not the PT.

Yes, some DVRs can use UTC to control the UTC cameras, but many of my cameras are not UTC.

Also, the PTZ controller embedded in the DVR is not good.

So I use separat RS485 joystick for simplicity.

And thus I am looking for a way to communicate with the UTC camera, using the same joystick as the rest, which are proper PTZ dome camera.

It will not work .... cam does not have a address or Chanel or baud rate or protocol at camera.... and the came needs them to communicate.

Your other problem is your cam is not a continuous zoom...... not made to be moved in or out like a camera with zoom control

UTC controller is only used to setup cam at camera end and then removed

I been installing TVI , CVI , analog cameras, maybe this will help , I wanted to use a rs485 joystick kbd1000 connected to nvr / DVR , ch 1 is a CVI power zoom, ch 2 and 5 are IP ptz , connected by wire to dvr No go , wouldn't do anything, I finally got it to work by plugging the keyboard / joystick into the network , setup network info, setup zone for DVR address , password, and enter ch then ptz button was able to control the ch independent of one another. I did this test cause customer has old GE calatel and have to install 4 new TVI ptz models , so if they keep a few GE , should be able to control others by network via DVR / jostick plugged into same switch , it works on my Dahua nvr have to see this week if it will work on their crappy dvr's ....
