Ip camera issues

Recommended Posts

We have been installing the ip cameras for awhile now and have only had one other customer with length issues. we first used the poe repeater off ebay for about 39.00 each and had good luck with them on the first job. The second job (lesson learned) I measured out 275 ft exactly put in a ped. went another 275 put in a ped. I ran cat 5 e from some place out of texas and it was nothing but problems. My buddy had some surplus wire from a job he did for the amory ( thats all he dose) and it was belden cat 6 nice stuff and we re ran all new wires, new ends, verified all connections. the cameras came right up no problems everyone is happy. So I thought well 2 months later the customer called and said we have a couple cameras out. we went out and checked and unplugged the repeaters checked the poe injectors powered them back up and they worked. 1 month later same thing but a different camera.

Now we had 4 cameras down put new repeaters on and got all of them working but wait theres more while we were there showing the customer some new things they could do 1 camera stopped working (no video) another lost connection then reconnected then another went out......wtf

I guess Im looking for a poe repeater that's not 496.00 each. I know my wire is good and I think me being a tight butt has cost me alot of time and money. thank you for your help

You do not have troubles if gone for analog systems. But please keep posting the message as there are many guys who keep promoting IP camera system might come to the rescue.

STOP LYING YOU CHINA SPAMMER. Analog is garbage. There are plenty of posts with analog systems having issues. OP's problem is likely related to bad cables or cheap repeater. Sunnykim works for a company that only sells analog. Please dont take his scam advice.

Obviously, Boogieman is not the guy who pays USD 496 for the cheap repeater for you. You may keep posting this message till you get your problem solved.

No idea on what a "ped" is.

Your problems are networking issues. There are maximum cable lengths you are not supposed to go over (yeah, 275 feet I would say, about 90m). If you need lengths over that, you need to put "something" in the middle (a switch is what you want usually; that means you need to have power on that point too). I would advise against repeaters, but I am sure there is many people using them happily.

You would be having problems also if you were using wifi antennas, IP phones, or whatever, your network is not functioning ok.

Hi. eBay $39 is cheap ..... But put your cost of gas and time going back all the time and you will understand they are expensive crap.

It is also good practice not to install repeaters at the maximum end of each run.

Also you have not listed power ? Distance or camera type

You might want to check this company out ... There prices are no where near $400

The cameras running out to 250' are working flawlessly. At 275 there is a ped that has 9 repeaters in it .the next camera is at 305' the then next one is at 345'then 390' then 430' then 470' then 510' then another ped with 3 repeaters in it... then 540 then then 600' then 640'

the camera at 640' working off of 2 repeaters and a poe injector is working great.

I dont want to be argumentative but my pedestals are exactly 83 meters thats 7 meters short of the max wire run. Also I have no power 110vac outside of the building where the cameras are. This is a storage facility and we mounted poles in the middle of the alleyways all the way to the end

Who is being argumentative ?? You are running cheap indoor use only at there limit ....... You have 9 in one box ...... And you have not accounted for the heat produced which will also give shut down

You have a badly designed network with cheap components

How are you? I have been in cctv market for nearly 20 years. IP cameras can be complicated sometimes. What I would propose is the following. If using a poor quality POE switch, make sure the customer restarts the POE at least every few days...should then not give problems. Remember, IP cameras is like computers. Leave them online for a few days or weeks, something can go wrong if they don't get restarted. Dealt with a company called Eagleview and their IP cameras has a function where you can program the camera to restart itself should it loose connection, or just to restart once every few days. That will solve the problem with a unstable POE switch. Else you will have to invest in better POE's.

Sorry, nearly forgot. It could also be a bandwidth problem. Try dropping the FPS (frames per second) on the cameras so that the POE's (network switches) do less work. Will make for better stability

If you are confirming bad things about IP camera systems, Boogieman gets very mad against you. Be careful.

Nah...just like to point out china scammers who promote outdated 960h analog because their company sells it...also, like you sunnykim Keatano is a spammer for eagleview...

You dont need to restart ip cameras every few days...what a joke...I have hundreds that hum along 24/7 perfectly without interruption...stop making it seam like there are zero issues with analog...every other post in the analog forum is an issue..this is a SUPPORT forum...that means people come here when there are problems...

problem fixed. re-run all lines to 275' put in ped. like so.

headend 13 lines out..........1st cam drop.......2nd cam drop .....ped at 275' rj45 all ends and tested added repeaters....3rd came drop....4th cam drop......5th cam drop...6th cam drop ......ped at 275'(550' from headend) all 8 lines,rj45 tested added repeaters.......7th cam drop......8th cam drop.....9th cam drop.....10th cam drop...11th cam drop ....ped at 275' (825' from headend)2 lines rj45 tested and added repeaters.

There was several issues by my own mistake by not adding in the pole hight and not measuring correctly and using crap wire. lesson learned. We were looking at using analogs but there would have been yet greater issues with voltage drop. running 18/2 753' I would have had 2.38 volts at the end ya no thanks. Power at the poles was not an option . I would have had to run 7awg wire which is about a 4"-5" conduit lets get real.....

for those that offered helpful advice thank you.

Analog systems have lots of problem...look at the support forum...his problem is using CHEAP repeaters...same issue as using cheap analog gear your company sells. Maybe he wants analog because he needs redundant edge recording or uses it with a PC based vms like milestone or avigilon. Maybe he records to two servers at two different locations? Ever think that some folks needs better performance than cheap analog DVR's. Its 2016 not 2004. Get with the times.
