Avigilon bullet cam insufficient heating

We encountered many issues already with avigilon exterior IP cams after a power failure in winterperiods. After a power failure of + 8 hrs, Avigilon cams suffer from heavy condensation after power-up. Due to the heavy metal body, the PoE power is not sufficient to heat the body so condensation disappears.

We do not encounter this phenomenon with cheap plastic housings from ex. Hikv

With avigilon exterior cams, condensation after PF stays for 10 days !!

Any solution ?

Hi. Metal cameras are available from many manufacturers with no problems

But you are talking about condensation......and that is a install problem

Condensation means camera is not sealed .... and not being sealed then the camera can not hold heat either ... giving you the camera loss

Are you familiar with Avigilon bullet cams ? These cams come completely sealed as the wall mount is separated from the cam-body. The cam-body is in factory completely sealed. Moisture problem in winter period after power failure is not for 1 cam - it is a problem for ALL Avigilon bullet cams after a + 24hrs PF !

Recovery from haze takes about 10 days with full night IR switched on.

Same issue with HIKVISION 4.0MP cam: 3 hrs recovery (PVC body)

Are you installing H3A cameras or H4? Are you using POE or POE+? If it is really cold you will want to use POE+ if you want the heater and IR to work at the same time. POE AF can only run IR OR heater.

To remove the condensation is easy:

Switch the camera to B/W mode and remove the service plug in the camera so the moisture can escape. Once clear replace the silica pack and put the service plug back on.

so roll a truck, get on the ladder or bucket truck, remove the service port and how long does it take for the moisture to escape?

The bigger problem is when the lens is full of water. we have had 3 or 4 have that problem

No need to a role a truck if they are installed correctly the first time. We had a couple of issues about a year ago then we adjusted how we install them and haven't had an issue since.

Also, you can turn the IR on from the client software and if you let your cameras get acclimated to the temp which they will be installed you will not have any moisture issues. If it's really cold where you install the cameras then use POE+.
