Is my NVR5208 bricked?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I bought a NVR5208 (non-POE) a few months ago and have only recently got around to testing it.

The NVR has a HDD installed which spins-up when the I flick the switch at the back. However, aside from the lights on the front panel coming on, nothing else happens. After a minute or so the NVR reboots itself.

Is it possible that the NVR is bricked?

Cheers

PS I have been holding the power button down for 3 seconds before anybody asks

Have you tried disconnecting the hard drive and then power it on?

In a lot of cases, if the NVR has a problem with the HDD, it'll just repeatedly reboot. Take your pick as to the reason; incompatibility, defective drive, etc...

Hi Don,

I tried that and got the same result.

I assume they are able to boot without a HDD?

Thanks

I can't say that I've ever come across one that requires a hard drive to turn on.

Are you getting anything showing up on your screen at all while it's trying to turn on?

I've also seen firmware cause a similar problem when it gets too far out of date or when it's flashed improperly. Do you know what firmware you were working with or have you done any firmware updates since you've had it? I know you said you just started testing it, but...

Nothing is displayed on the screen at all.

I have no idea which version of firmware it is using - all I have done is plugged it in and switched it on.

We had a load of problems with our house, so the CCTV wasn't a major priority.
