Questions on IR setup

Recommended Posts

Hi, all. First time posting.

I have an oddly shaped split level house. Several blind spots in front of windows do not have eaves that can attach a camera. I'm thinking the best solution for those would be a camera inside looking out, with an IR light on the outside. I have a couple of questions about this.

1) I would need an IR camera that I can turn off the IR, correct? A normal camera won't work, right?

2) Does anyone know of an ACTi camera with such a feature? I have three ACTi's in my backyard, and I'd like to stay mainly ACTi. However, from what I've read, ACTi's Daytime mode will completely turn off IR capture. If ACTi cameras can't do this, I was just going to get a Foscam FI8910W and block the IR LEDs.

3) One of the areas that's affected is the front door. I'd like a two-way audio setup where I can talk to people. I was thinking of pointing a FI8910W out the side window, mounting an omni directional mic/speaker on the outside, then run the cables inside to the camera. Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks for any advice.
