Looking for Home Video System on Long Island.

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone can help me find a video system for the outside perimeter of my home and for a relative's home. I'm not very familiar, nor do I understand much, but I don know I want HD, Night vision, and a very good quality system. I was going to have ADT come to give me an estimate, however, they do monitoring and have a monthly fee. I'd just like my own system, where I can view everything on my phone and/or computer and stores everything on the DVR. I'm looking to spend around $2,000 for each system, if that doable. I had seen some systems at COSTCO but I'm not sure how good they are. I would also need an installer on Long Island.

Any system would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

All DVRs support the remote access from your phone or internet as long as the DVR is hooked on to the Network.

Cheapest ones are analog cameras. The second cheaper ones are HD Analog cameras. I like to recommend HD-AHD or HD-TVI cameras and its corresponding DVR.

Hey gabelman, I'm from long island too .

Check out my two posts in this thread link viewtopic.php?f=1&t=51070

I explain some of the bad about all in one box type systems .

I use a supply house in Ronkonkoma called canal alarms .

Chris at the counter is very knowledgeable. They are an authorized

Reseller of many popular brands .they have a lot of stuff on display

In the showroom ,and I can't find better prices anywhere local .their

website is 123securityproducts.com .you can research dvr and camera

Specs and check out the learning center on their site too .

You didn't say how many camera's you were considering for each

Residence but I would recommend at least an 8 channel dvr .most

average sized homes on long island need at least 6 camera's for

decent coverage .

Hikvision makes very good equipment .the ds-7208hqhi & ds-7308hqhi

Dvr's are worth considering .

Check out the link I posted about the bad side of all in one box systems ,

Then look around the website .

Come back and ask more questions or feel free to send me a pm .I am

Happy to help you any way I can with dvr & camera selection , design ,

and installation questions .

Hd-sdi technology that Brian6 recommended is old technology that is on the way out ! It was great technology but many supply houses are not restocking hd-sdi equipment and many manufacturers have stopped making it too .

The newest hi def equipment is hd-tvi , hd-cvi , and ahd .

This new equipment is less expensive than hd-sdi .

There other hi def option is an IP system but that technology

Is generally much more expensive than hd-sdi .

You should have no problems with budget for an hd-tvi or hd-cvi system

123 looks expensive ...... They have an 8 way IP system that is $400 more than what you can buy it for and that's retail.

That's a $800 saving

Tom ,did you make an account and log in ? The prices go down a bit .

If you notice ,on each Web page you can make an offer for the item displayed .

Also i know that some manufacturers regulate the advertised prices of distributors.

I recently bought a hikvision tvi motorized varifocal turret for a customer that was listed

on the website for $167.97 .I paid $111. Their house brand is cantek .the same exact

$164 hik camera from cantek is listed on the site for $92.95 .I pay $74.they get it from hik.

I don't install ip systems so I can't speak for those prices .

For the stuff I buy ,I spend on average 20% less than the other 4 supply houses in my

Area and the several websites I check .it like the fact that all prices are negotiable there .

Also ,they are a stand up company .they have done right by me on every single purchase ,

Return ,and question .I'm sure someone can find a better price on anything if you search

Hard enough ,but I will never buy any surveillance equipment from the Internet.

You will get 20% off on old tvi systems

Take a look at there flir 8 way IP system it's a saving of $400 .... Same system same delivery time but direct from lie better warranty better support .

I replied to this post just for the reason of a new member considering buying but can save $400 and with needing two that's $800 saving.

If 123 want to have a website that looks like a jigsaw puzzle and make customers guess on the price that is bad marketing

"You will get 20% off on old tvi systems "

Hd-tvi has only been available on long Island for less than 18 months ,

Is there such a thing as old hd-tvi systems yet !?

The hikvision 7100 series dvr's may be considered old

But they're not available at 123 .

"Take a look at there flir 8 way IP system it's a saving of $400 .... Same system same delivery time but direct from lie better warranty better support ."

Where did flir ip come from ? $400 savings from what ?

Same system as what ? Ip and tvi are not the same

Are you saying that an ip system is somehow cheaper than

An hd-tvi system ? Not to my knowledge but I have been

Proven wrong before .

"Better warranty"

are you saying that a manufacturers offer

Better warranties to different distributors ? 123 honors the

Warranty that the manufacturer honors .

"Better support"

I don't know how you can speak for their support .

Have you dealt with them before .I have .every single issue that I

Ever had was resolved Immediately at the service counter .no need

For the manufacturer to get involved .before I knew how to forward

ports they would link up with me on team viewer and set everything

up for me .explaining what he was doing so I could learn how to do it .

I don't know how much more customer support anyone would need .

"I replied to this post just for the reason of a new member considering buying but can save $400 and with needing two that's $800 saving."

How do you save $400 off a dvr that's $283 ?

I replied to this thread to let people know that

All in one box systems are generally cheap junk

And that they can get quality professional equipment

From a local supply house (not necessarily 123 )

that is an authorized reseller

Without spending that much more money .

"If 123 want to have a website that looks like a jigsaw puzzle and make customers guess on the price that is bad marketing"

It might be a bit confusing to a greenhorn but

After they start to Understand the specs, and

Figure out what they want from their system ,

Its great for research because all the specs are

listed clearly and you can download the specs

And instructions too .

You don't have to guess on the price , it's clearly

Listed .so is the make an offer button .

The other day you said ,"sunnykim you talk alot of crap"

Now that's funny

Another person to make it personal .... And someone else that can't read

Tvi .... Yes it's 2 and half years old but 123 don't sell tvi3 so like I said there's are old

Where did flir ip come from ? $400 savings from what ?

Same system as what ? Ip and tvi are not the same

Now I don't know why you can't read ....... But I did say look at the flir IP system

And yes I know tvi and IP are not the same ...... Did I say anywhere it was ???

The other day you said ,"sunnykim you talk alot of crap"

Now that's funny

So do 80% of other members but if you want to learning from sunnykim .... Feel free ...... That will be two people talking crap and that takes me to your next post.

That is not the case ....... It was a few years ago with analog systems .... But a wrong statement for IP cvi tvi

Old analog had fix cameras fixed IR no zoom ..... But with IP cvi tvi cameras have selectable settings ..... Saying that two of the same cameras can function different ....... You have smart IP .... Option to zoom .. Option to schedule different settings ....... So box systems are not as bad as you keep making out.

And as far as there website ...... If it lies on its first page then it's a problem ...... The best CCTV sites will give you consumer prices and option to log in for trade prices ....... But to give massive over prices from the start
