DVR AVTech MDR759 - Notifications and network settings

Hello everyone,

 

After about two months of trying I decided to ask for your help...

 

I bought a DVR produced by AVTech model MDR759 (16 channels). I can see the cameras remotely with the video viewer application, Internet Explorer, and via iPhone. However, I cannot make the email and ftp notifications work and I am asking for your help.

 

Here is the information I think is pertinent...

 

*Firmware 1022

*A PPPoE radio modem receives data from the ISP's tower

*A router set to provide DHCP service is connected to the PPoE radio modem

*The router allows for DDNS via dyndns.org and appropriate settings are entered in the router (name of host, password, DDNS server name)

*In the router, I dedicated a particular local IP address to the DVR and forwarded port 80 for that particular IP address

*The DVR is also set on DHCP and has the same settings as the router for dyndns.org

*The email notification is set in the DVR to work with my ISP's smtp server on port 25 with no authentication and no encryption, because they are not required for sending emails

*The DVR does not send email notifications (check mark for alert by email is selected)

*With the same settings, an email client installed on a computer located within the same local network works properly

* I tried to use gmail's smtp server with port 465, ssl, and authentication but email notification still did not work

*The ftp settings entered in the DVR work properly when used on an ftp client installed on a computer located within the same local network

*The DVR does not send ftp notifications (check mark for alert by ftp is selected)

 

The problem is that neither the email nor the ftp notifications work.

 

My networking knowledge is very limited and I am not sure whether I should set the DVR to a static IP address, using the address I assigned already in the router, or to DHCP. I also wonder if I should disable the DDNS feature in the DVR and only let the router deal with the update of the IP address received from my ISP.

 

If you have a chance, please share your thoughts on this issues. Thank you kindly.

Hello everyone,

 

I did figure it out, somehow by accident. I connected the device directly

to the PPPoE modem and set the network settings in the DVR for the PPPoE

type of network.

 

I had to enter the DNS1 and DNS2 IP addresses, which I found by looking at

the page showing my router status.

 

Once finished, I noticed that the logs are not showing errors anymore. I

went back to the regular setup, with the router connected, and switched

the network setting to DHCP in the DVR, while keeping the two DNS IP

addresses entered before.

 

That was it! Now it works very well. In fact, I have to fine tune the

motion detection sensitivity to reduce the number of emails I am getting.
