DVR powering on and off

Recommended Posts

Is it OK to power off my DVR that I use for security cameras during the day when I don't need it to run? I have been told powering it on and off will shorten the life of the DVR?

its ok to power it off - BUT it should be closed down through the menu system so that the hard drive recording heads don't crash and knacker your disc. you could crash the disc if you just kill the power to the unit without proper shutdown procedure. We come across this with PAT testing in big companies- the sparks /techs don't understand that they can ruin a system by directly pulling out the mains so they can do the PAT testing. you may get away with it once or twice but its just luck eventually luck will run out.

OK thank you for the info, now all I have to do is figure out how to do what you told me lol. I assume there is a menu in the computer for this DVR, but I am not sure how to access that.
