Real Time DVR question-specifically playback rates

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm trying to locate a 16 Channel HD-SDI 1080P DVR for use at my residence. It must have 480 FPS which is easy to find, but I came across the situation where most cannot playback at 480 (30 FPS per channel). Nobody seems to be able to answer as to why this is. One would think that if it records at 480 it should playback at 480.

Now I have found units under the Magic series that list a 16P and a 16M versions one plays back at 120 FPS and the M at 480 FPS.

Check it out. Look at the area that shows Playback.

Must be a heavier processor?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Also does anyone have any opinions or experience with the Magic series DVR's?

Anyone? OK does anyone know of a high quality 16 Channel HD-SDI DVR that can record in real time and playback at real time or should I not be concerned with that?

cant really answer your question but could I ask why you need such a high frame rate for playback- most IP systems I come across 5 to 6 frames a second are sufficient. Unless fast motion is taking place or slight of hand in the likes of a jewellers shop or a if a casino type environment is being monitored I would think you would not lose much. maybe others can help with your specific query. good luck.

Most of the models I'm familiar with stop at 15fps at 2MP. Personally, I think that's plenty.

If I had to guess, I'd say your having a hard time finding what you want because the manufacturers seemed to have all abandoned the technology now. The majority just seem to want to dump their stock and move onto the next big thing in HD over coax (AHD, HDCVI, HDTVI).

First off, thanks for replying!

I have to tell you that selecting my DVR has been rather discouraging as to the amount of information out there regarding these mainly Korean or China based DVR manufacturers. Like anything else I do in life I get way too involved in the whole "specs" department. But, it is for my home and I don't mind spending a little extra.

Ok, so maybe I decide to take a new look at what I'm thinking. Maybe I can start with a few recommendations from you guys that are in the field.

I'm leaning toward a Korean made DVR. Thinking the quality might be better. Any thoughts?

Still thinking 16 channel HD-SDI.

My local supplier offers KT&C, CCTVStar, Cantek (Dahua), Vitek.

Anyone like or dislike these brands?

I found a CCTVStar that works for me, but know nothing in the area of quality with this name, any thoughts?

Thanks ahead of time for any replies!
