What are other options if HDD in DVR stops functioning ?

Recommended Posts

Hello Xperts,

I have 8 channel DVR make QSee model QT428-436-5 since 4 years.

I have a problem with my HDD. If i attach HDD to DVR, my DVR never turns on, but if i disconnect my HDD from motherboard of DVR, my DVR works (but obviously no recordings).

I would welcome a solution to the above:

1. Can I attach an external HDD to my DVR, will it record, do i need to format the external HDD in some specific manner or OS.

2. Get a replacement HDD for my DVR.(Again, if i arrange for the HDD, will i require to formate it in some specific manner or OS)

3. Last Option (though expensive,,), Change the DVR???

Thanks in Advance

Gary

Hi

It can be your PSU for your DVR not pushing enough amps to power the DVR and HDD, it can also be a short/fault on your HDD causing the DVR not to boot up as most DVR's do a self test before booting up, if there is a problem it wont boot up,

try testing or replacing the HDD, also try another PSU with same voltage and with same or higher ampage

if you replace the HDD the DVR should format it itself to the correct setting

hope this helps

Regards
