Traveling cable and Camera install for elevator

Recommended Posts

I doing an install on a 7 floor building and was expecting coax in the traveling cable for the elevator for a camera install but the elevator company said that they don't install coax or cat5 cables as they have seen them break after a few years. (even the ones with steel in them)

They have handed me 5 X 20/2 AWG shielded wire

I had hoped to do a IP camera and then a coax /POE injector for the camera

but that looks like that might not be possible any ideas ? would a male BNC break out connector work ?

In the elevator penthouse we have a cat6 cable that runs back to a switch on the 7th floor. Camera and recorder are all up based .

The camera needs to be installed in the cab , there is a traveling cable that links the cab to the elevator penthouse on the roof. There is no EMT running to the cab as it moves up and down .

How does that work with POE camera ?

POE camera can be powered from lift top via a injector.

Which will take all of 20 mins to install.

Going cable will take a day or so........ lift has to be out of commission while you work on new cables... then you have to have your cables tested

Or easy way ..... lift tops usually have at least one socket on the top or install one and then your camera is just plug and play

You can’t use a 3rd party to do any electrical work on a elevator

Elevator company own elevator space .... there insurance there responsibility

Ask them for a price for 110 feed on top of lift .... this is usually taken from elevator light circuit NOT a new feed install.

Sounds like you have asked for a 110 feed to be added .... this would not be allowed or needed..... you use the existing power
