Defeway H.264 Remote control does not work

On my newly installed Defeway H.264 8 Channel DVR Camera system, I cannot get the remote control to work?

Any suggestions? The manuals don't say anything about initializing and I cannot find any setup place in the manual.

I switched batteries once and both sets are new batteries that work in other remotes and yes have the polarity correct. Everything else works, just cannot get the remote to work.

Test if your remote control is actually working.

Use a camera on your cell phone and point it at the IR LED at the end of the remote control. Press and hold a button while looking at the cell phone screen.

If the IR remote is working correctly, then you should see the LED flickering. Depending on your cell phone and general lighting conditions it may be quite subtle but keep a close eye for it.
