720P on very low Bandwidth

Hi,

 

Looking for a camera with 720P recording at around 7FPS with the lowest BW useage possible.

 

Has anyone any pointers? I remember seeing a Bosch IP camera a few years ago that did 720P and had far lower BW usage then other cameras at that time.

 

I am wondering if there are any cameras out there that do 720P and use less BW to do it then others?

With any IP camera you can configure the resolution, the frames per second, and the bitrate as low as you want. The lower the bitrate, the worse the quality will be.

 

So what you should be looking for is for a camera with the best compression algorithms. So given the low bitrate you want to use, the image quality will be better than with other cameras.

Consider the new H.265 cameras that use a new compression technology. Use around 40% less bandwith than H.264. But you will have to have an NVR that is H.265 capable.

I do not buy the claim that H.265, in most cases, gives 40% more efficiency than H.264. It could but on a certain scenario, on a certain video size. But it could not, vice versa. I like to see the cases being reported on the actual fields. Just like amount of 15 days storage, compared between H.264 DVR and H.265 DVR mode switched, as we see both standards are supported by new DVRs, available in the market.

Yes I get that camera parameters can be adjusted to give lower quality thus lower Bandwidth requirements.

 

 

What I am asking is if anyone knows of a camera that produces 720P footage at a given quality at lower bandwidth?

 

Example - the Bosch camera i referenced in the first post. I can't remember the model number now but it had an excellent picture with BandWidth rates that were better than other cameras - at that time.

 

I am wondering if there is a camera like that today ? I suppose it would come down to the sensor of the camera and the onboard processing. Certainly i dont expect all the usual low end Chinese cameras would do this - its most likely going to be a higher end camera - you get what you pay for.

 

My application is transmitting the footage over satellite - thus bandwidth expensive and the less i use the better. In my case its better to spend more on a good camera and less on recurring bandwidth charges.

The chip makers are now all in China. The video quality and performances have improved a lot. The set makers with high brands are also in China. Go for Hikvision or Dahua. They provide menu for your tuning the parameter. Try yourself and find the best parameters for your application. FYI, go for Wiki and understand "Constant bit rate control", or "Variable bit rate", or "Combined both", which fluctuates between Min/Max bit rates that you bind.

What you require is specialist transcoding kit. Bosch have transcoding in some of their kit plus some of the next release of cameras can be set for low bandwidth.

 

For very low bandwidth utilisation look at encoders from Digital Barriers (can stream real-time video over wireless networks at under 10 kbits per second) or Vemotion. This uses similar technology as used by the Television outside broadcast guys.

 

Both are capable of transmitting video over very low bandwidths.
