I have a Swann system I installed 6/7 years ago, comprise 4 external cameras around the house and a NVR4-7400 using Cat5 cable 

I want to upgrade to something similar to the Swann enforcer bullet type floodlite cameras but is there a better option out there?

I would also like to install a wifi camera in the house (kitchen being a central location) but would I be able to include this to the same app as external cameras?

I have friends who have the hikvision systems. Seems like a nice system.   But, Iwant to install my own system now and want to get away from Hikvision.  Want an NVR/Poe system.  Do any of you have any recommendations?   Thanks in advance.

I have a customer that needs an indoor system for a new office, they want hikvision as that's what they have in their other office and they want to view it all via the one app. They just need 4 cameras for the moment but I was thinking of using a DS-7608NI-K2/8P so that they have the capacity for more cameras in the future. Does this seem a reasonable choice?

Which cameras would you pair it with? I think we may have to go with bullet style cameras due to awkward mounting positions but all recomendations would be great.

DVR has the option to upload files via FTP protocol and there are many services of file sharing that offers FTP upload and unlimited storage for free to kept files for 30-90 days. Like depositfiles, uptobox, 1fichier to name a few.

But seems that this type of service for CCTV backup is not very popular, I can't find any google hit by searching for this use case.

Anyone has the same idea or tried it?

In general what information might a CCTV Standalone DVR write to the HDD for video input channels that are disconnected?

I have a old (mid 2000s) DVR where 2 of 4 channels were actively recording video, on the missing channels there is some metadata stored to the HDD.   The metadata does not decode to a video or an image (shows as blue screen in the player).  When all four inputs are disconnected and the DVR continues to record there are four sets of this metadata (all four channel show blue screen on the player).   I'm thinking it is part of an overlay feature mentioned in the mainboard ASIC specs but the DVR manual makes no mention about overlays.

The metadata is identical across the full 2 or 3 days of recordings that exist on the HDD.

Any thoughts about the meaning or purpose of this metadata?

We live on a bigger property and parts that have zero connectivity/power around. What I am looking to do with an addition to our surveillance system is to have a camera at two entrances (that have zero power and are about 2 acres away from the main system we have....it does not have to connect to the current system, because I'm not super happy/pleased with it to begin with and would also love recommendations about changing this out too). For both cameras at each entrance, I would LOVE to have a notification to my phone to alert me that someone/something has crossed the path, and then to be able to pull up the camera feed on my phone, and voice back to it to communicate. 

Reason 1) Package deliveries. We get a lot of people that deliver and need a signature, but no-one goes to the work of actually ringing out front doorbell to alert us that they are there. They knock on the garage, no answer, and just leave. 

Reason 2) We have had a few items taken from our yard and have found the chain to the gate (far away, Zero power/internet there) cut and dangling. I'd love to know when someone comes in and can confront them virtually while I start driving there. 

For my in-home system, I use an IC Realtime setup that I can monitor remotely through an app. The thing I don't like about it is there is no 2 way talk feature, the audio recording sucks, and without physically moving the cameras, I can't pan/swivel/change the viewpoint. We have their 16 channel 1U NVR with 16 port POE, with IPMX-W20F-IRW2, IPMX-E20F-IRW2, and IPFX-B20V-IRW2 cameras. indoor/outdoor bullet and dome cameras. 

Is there a system that can do this? I'm down two boats and two trailers in a little over a month, so I'd love to find the culprits.

I'm investigating options for mounting a PTZ IP camera on a pole on top of my local football club's stand. 

The idea is that people can use the camera to record games for analysis. It doesn't need to be $$$$ broadcast quality but given it's location, weatherproofing would be a must.
Are there realistic sub $500 options (camera-only, i'll figure out recording/control myself)?

  Looking to see if anyone can chime in on a comparison for the differences between 2 hardware scenarios. This is with a Exacq vision setup only.

     I have 2 options for hardware and software delivery:

     #1 - ExacqVision IP04-80T-R4A 64 channel NVR built in Pro software.

     #2 - Windows Servers with Exacq Pro Video Management software VMS build.

      What I am looking for for comparison is as follows:

* Longevity: I have worked in the server enterprise side of things for many years, generally there is a specified time lapse to upgrade hardware etc. So generally we would upgrade server hardware every 5 - 7 years for servers, depending on priority. It seems that CCTV NVR's have a much longer mean time before that are swapped out. We have run, and still run old (VERY Old) Panasonic NVR's, going on 15+ years. With the 2 items above, can someone speak to the longevity for the Exacq NVR Longevity \ reliability?

* Ease of use: Would anyone have any info of comments to differences between the 2 setups from a user perspective? I know that things such as hardware and behind the scenes of server management, etc. What I am asking is what about the user interface? Are the 2 setup's different? Or are the interface the same? Can they be setup to be the same? Would anyone know this? 

* Does anyone run (Exacq Pro Video Management software VMS) - If you do, can you speak to how well it works or any experiences that you have? Good or bad. Servers Will be Dell based servers with all specs covered for hardware requirements. I would suspect we would add additional MEM and disk space for Caching etc. 

 We are looking to upgrade our current Panasonic NVR farm to Exacq V product, looking for some guidance.

I know there is an application available from Dahua themselves, but I would like to program my own. I don't know why they do not release the Android SDK for it, or the source code to their Windows DLL's. If anyone has any information I would like to hear it

I want to use two conductors of the UTP cable for positive video signal, and other two conductors for negative video signal in an HDCVI/HDTVI camera, in order to reduce loss. I’m wondering which is preferable, to get one twisted pair to positive signal and other twisted pair to negative signal (for example, green and green-white for positive, and orange and orange-white for negative), or to get one conductor of each twisted pair for positive and the other ones of each twisted pair for negative (for example, green and orange for positive, and green-white and orange-white for negative).

My reasoning is that to reduce interference, the positive and negative signals should be in the same twisted pair. Therefore, I think it is better to use one conductor of each twisted pair for positive and the other ones of each twisted pair for negative.

The same question if I want to connect an analog intercom (for example the Kocom KDP-601A1M/MS2D)

I've just started looking at CCTV systems for my house. I started off looking at the Reolink and Annke systems but neither seem great in low light. I only need 2 cameras but would like the option to add more at a later date so a 4 or 8 port NVR and preferably PoE. Any recommendations on systems or individual parts to look at?

Questions regarding the upgrade of an old analogue CCTV system.
Today we have a system with 16 analogue cameras, a video matrix with various interface cards and 3 video monitors with an associated small keyboard for selecting cameras and sequences.

No communication with outside world, no wireless communication, but need interface to fire alarm system, that automatic will change to nearby camera if alarm input is triggered (Normally open inputs, short to ground if alarm)

The question is how this can be upgraded in a simple and affordable way, as there are no longer any spare parts for the old system.

The easiest thing I can see is a switch to analogue HD cameras, there are probably 2-3 different standards. Then connect these to a hybrid DVR. The problem then is how this can be displayed on 3 different monitors, where each monitor must be able to select the camera and sequences independently of the others. If you use a single hybrid DVR or an NVR, you can find someone who can show different images on different video outputs, but i don't think it is possible to have 3 independent monitor outputs? And how should one be able to choose different cameras and the like from the 3 positions?

If you switch to a completely IP-based system, you will probably be able to use standard Windows clients at each position, so that you can select cameras and stuff independently of each other.
The challenge then becomes that you have to use Ethernet over coax devices on both sides, as existing cabling must be used. And there is limited space in the existing camera housing, which should preferably also be reused due to the enclosure (IP 68 stainless steel)

There is also limited space at each monitor position, where there is currently only a 15" monitor and a small keyboard mounted. Placing a Windows client, Ethernet over coax converter, monitor and power supply can be a challenge. A possible solution can then be to place the client in a central rack, and use a KVM-extender for a monitor. Again only coaxial cable out to the monitors is available.... 

By the way, is there any simple video management software that is well suited for use on a touch monitor? If you can use only one touch monitor out at each position, then it is a big advantage, as there is no suitable place to use e.g. a PC mouse or a normal PC keyboard.

So I would be grateful if anyone has good suggestions for solutions to this. The requirement is that costs must be kept moderate, existing cabling (coax+power) must be reused, and it must be possible to select cameras, sequences and the like independently on 3 different positions/monitors. Also alarm input from fire alarm that changes to correct camera if triggered is a demand. Continued use of existing camera housings is a great advantage, but they can be replaced if the new cameras are waterproof and corrosion-protected due to nearby salt water.

Currently, we have 5 webcam modules, connected to an rtsp server on a pc, which is then accessed by a Dahua NVR. The NVR also speaks to about 20 other IP cameras.

Everything with the webcams, seems a bit dodgy to me, and unprofessional.

So i guess my question is, what's the best way to hook up multiple small cameras, to a camera server? and does anyone know of software that. when triggered, will record a small portion of video, and save it to a folder? or is this something I should be doing on ffmpeg?

For context, we are watching a science experiment live, with lots of dark spaces and intricate places to get cameras, our current webcam modules are in 3d printed cases. We struggle because the PC doesn't always handle 5/6 cameras at the same time well and then the server struggles to take so much data too. We are about to add 8 more cameras to the system and want to see if the current solution is a bad decision.

The system itself is a REOLINK NVR with several PoE cameras.  All but 3 cameras will be home run to the NVR, but I have 3 cams that will be connected to the NVR via a TPLINK microwave shot (5Ghz 300 Mbps Outdoor CPE).  The connection flow will look like this (I'll use question marks {?} to denote where I'm not sure what equipment I will need): NVR -- cat6e -- ? -- Microwave Shot -- Microwave Far End -- ? -- Cameras x 3.     Basically, how do I multiplex the cameras for the shot then how do I demux them at the far end for distro to the cams.  Router and some switches? Is there a cleaner way to do it? The NVR is PoE and pretty much everything is in the system.. how will I deconflict PoE voltages??

We a community group in a rural location with houses along the length of a single track road running for circa 1.5miles.  Multiple road works in the area have caused a huge increase in traffic along our road and we want to get a better understanding of the traffic flows (and maybe speeds).

We don't have the funds to bring in a survey company or local authority funding so want to find a DIY solution.  We guess a camera or two is needed that can provide us with video (day and night) which we can analyse.  We're in a wet and windy location and want to be able to have sufficient video quality to enable us to identify number plates.  Power and wifi is readily available.

Any pointers gratefully received.

Seems like a really interesting research question but not really sure where to start. I'm wondering if any of you experts out there could share, based on your experience, what the most common setups for these systems are and where they tend to be located. As in, say most airports have 100 cameras (probably way more than that, but using a round number for the sake of simplicity), 50 will be 360 degrees with AI function, 25 will be dumb CCTVs, and 25 will be one-directional with AI function. Then they may require 20 decentralized servers for those 100 cameras (probably wrong), or 10 NVRs, or they could use 5 HCI servers instead. I totally made that example up, but that sort of thing is what I'm looking for. As quantitative as possible is ideal because the research will eventually roll into a market model we are creating to forecast demand for video surveillance equipment. And any other examples or facts you can share on this topic to situate me would be much appreciated.
