  1. Could use a Foresight VDS2500 to run 2 video's over one coax and use the 18/2 to power both if you have enough current

Will this be my best option you think?

i use the VDS2500 alot. it is also your cheapest option. by the time you have bought coax / power cable/ power supply.

the VDS2500 comes with its own power supply to run two 12v cameras at a range of upto 1300ft. you will only need to use your coax you have as power and both videos are transmited down the one coax. plus you will also have data that can be used to switch lights or detect motion alarms.

  2. Hey guys,

I have been installing AverMedia for years and this year I tried integrating a megapixel camera, Vivotek FD8161, for the first time. It is not in the default supported cameras list but you can patch the DVR and supposedly it then is supported. However, no matter which patch I use, I always get the same error: "Can not patch !You should close the DVR program at first!!" . The DVR program is already closed and it is still doing this. I tried this in Safe Mode, too. No luck. I am technically advanced in computers with certs but I just did not have any luck applying this patch. I would appreciate any experienced inputs.

    The Specs are:

    NV6480

    Core i3 540

    4GB DDR3 RAM

    nVidia GeForce 310

    320GB Seagate + 2TB Samsung HDD

    Windows 7 Professional x64

Hi forbus. you can only add your patch from the dvr menu. click setup then system and bottom left you will see import and export click import and click were file is located i.e pen drive or disk. reboot system when done.

  3. thanks tomcctv,it works, just one another question,do you know why, when i enable all 4 cameras in the software, all 4 goes white, the picture is white on all 4 cam.,but when i enable 2 cam its ok,when i enable 3 cam. all cams go brighter than before, and when i enable all 4 cam. it goes white all cams.can i handle this or the dvr card is something bad, thanks in advance cheers

hi it could be its not compatable with your graphics card if you can alter graphics try that. but the card has not had updates for 3 years as it was stopped then. if you cant do anything take a look at the aver nv 3000 card which was the replacement.

  4. hey tomcctv

if you mean am i a cctv installer no i am not but it is not low end and also i have caught plenty of people with this software and my bullet cameras like i have caught my neighbour peeoing through my front window at night and we are not even friends either also i have caught a boy at night with the software and the boy had climed over our fence got into our back garden and wandered around the outside of our house but any way what cctv system software would you say is high end then.

    regards clarkep

so long as your happy with it thats ok.................. so what is your problem with the software ???

  5. hi guys, does anyone have software and drivers for this video card ,its 4 ch dvr card, http://www.chengyu.biz/Product/DVRCard/DVRCard.asp?id=2&sortid=5 ,i tried to use pico 2000 ,and vtv 2000 but it dont work,it works with some dvr software, please help thanks in advance

the best thing for you to do is throw the card away. no way on earth is that an avermedia product. avermedia cards are not made in china.

  6. so you think its less exspensive kit do you well take a look on the website of the company a bought the kit from http://www.bigbrothersystems.com/ and then tell me again what you think. I have 4 black bullet cameras one which is wireless the others are not wireless and i have a 1 terabite hard drive on the computer cctv system the cameras record onto and i have also set up my cctv so i can remote view the cameras from anywhere in the world using internet explorer but i still dont know the name of the company that makes the cctv system software my cameras use to record on to my cctv computer even though i know the name of the company i bought it off but as i have already said and i am saying again i want to know what the name of the company that made the cctv system software and i want to know the companys website address as well.

bigbrother are the owners if your taking of the uk company. let me ask you something can you use ip cameras

bigbrothersystems LTD are not the owners and yes they are a uk company i know this because they get the cctv system software from someware else but yes i believe the software does work with ip cameras as i have set my system up so i can bring my cameras up on the internet using internet explorer just by typeing in an IP address.

i take it your not a cctv guy. 1 bigbrother software is very low end. it is generic also used by a company in north wales. and a few people have been caught out with the words megerpixel system plastered all over the software.

  8. thank you for the detailed responses.

i did not understand all of the lingo like "tailed off", but still very helpful.

i might try to get power near the cameras, but then i run into the issue of having to place the cameras in those exact spots, and not relocating them later if need be.

i am still thinking i would pull a cat5 to every camera. if i pulled 1 cat5 for 4 cameras, where would i make that split? these are high ceilings, i dont want to have cat5 switches inside enclosures up high or down low.

cat5 and utp are same thing correct?

and i am in williamsburg, virginia, usa

nice place williamsburg. i lived in martinsburg for a while.

if you dont want to use splitters then yes i would go to each camera with cat5 (also makes easy fault finding.

with the likes of CNB you can order there range and just and utp at the end of there part number )

or you could us utp 4 way box and from there coax to your cameras.

  9. I'm working on one now that the owner provided the Flat Panels and they are el chepos with HDMI only and no VGA.

I found some cards that are twin DVI. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129091

I was thinking using a DVI to HDMI adapter and HDMI over Cat5 powered baluns.

I am trying to avoid small fans. Aside from being noisy they seem to be the #1 failure item in systems that run 24x7. That card seems like a good fit if I can't find or go with a fanless card.

I found this fanless dual DVI:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125328

Also the quad card I mentioned is a little spendier but would only require a motherboard with one PCIE16 slot:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814195099&Tpk=100-505610

It comes with 4 mini display port to DVI dongles.

looking at the cost of everything. and the problem of mixing. here is another option for you.

  10. Hi Leohuangdi,

Again thanks for your reply! Really appreciate it!

I always thought that the only thing that could improve the IR image quality were the leds. More leds means better IR image quality, never thought about a digital processor and apertures. Goes to show you my knowledge on camera's, haha.

Anyway thanks alot for helping me, and thanks for the info! Looks like I got some searching to do!

another camera in your price range is the avermedia AVerDiGi SF1311H-B ip. same features as the avtech and also has two way sound and zoom on your mouse wheel. were in europe are you.

  11. Hi all,

Been thinking about CCTV for some time but as I only want to have it and not be a guru I thought it better to ask guru's

What I want is to monitor the road I live on (in UK) ideally I want a system that can monitor a 180 degree area, when it spots something moving track and record it ideally panning in / out as required as it goes all automatically. So here are a few questions

    1) Is this functionality part of the camera (like a PTZ) or is it in the software?

    2) if I purchased a PTZ camera for a system like this is there something I should look for like a protocol?

    3) I assume more lines the better and B/W beter than colour as it's generally higher rez from what I know?

    4) Are the cameras on Ebay from far east any good, the spec's always look good but I do wonder about general quality as price seems low?

P.S. I will be hooking this to a dedicated PC and ideally just one camera

    Thanks

    Steve

using auto tracking ptz on a road area will just be a waste of money. imagine putting a 3 yeay old child infront of a ptz joy stick. thats exactly how your ptz will react. every car / person / cat / dog rubbish blowing everywere.

auto tracking ptzs have there place but not for traffic.

you would be much better and it will save you money if you use 4 good cameras and a 4 way dvr what would your budget be.

and another good money saving exercise. dont buy anything from ebay

  12. Hello everyone.

I have a bit of a tricky situation. I would like to use a remote camera to read the LCD display on a piece of equipment in an unlit room. The characters on the display are about 3/8" tall and 3/8" wide, and are in the dark. I've tried using the built in IR illuminators on the camera as well as some ambient lighting (which I can remotely turn on), but everything is washing out the display (please see attached image, the display looks more recessed behind the front window than it actually is). In other cases, I've had luck by changing the angle of incidence in which the camera is looking at the LED, but it's not working in this situation. Is there a filter I could use? Any other suggestions?

    Regards,

    Raymond

how is the lcd getting the image up i.e vga/ com is might be better for you to record from the source than using a camera pointing at a screen.

  13. Hi

I got a client who wants the Avermedia SA5000 system, and wants to connect to an a till CASIO TE 2200, i cannot see the casio

listed on the option for the SA5000, and i need to know if they will communicate via the AVermedia Data box? The till does have a Com port.

    Thanks in advance.

the tills listed in the dropdown menu are for cash registers that are to be networked. if you are only using 1 till then you only need two moxas

software for the moxa is pre loaded on the sa dvrs (how far is your till from dvr)

part No, Moxa TCC-80 Serial Port Powered RS-232 to RS-422/485 Converter

  14. true. he could just use a java iphone app. (refresh images) or if the dvr has a true app then it would be port relient

One example is the Dahua DVR, there is no special port just for the mobile app, but it uses a sub stream instead of the main stream.

the dahua / apollo range are java apps for mobile and also works with the mobile symbian platform. a true iphone app is h264 stream and only works with the iphone.

rory you need to move with the times we dont use these anymore.

  15. I just bought a roll of RG59 + 2 to install my PTZ camera which is 24VAC and the power supply is a 3 amp (I have not seen any quotes for the current drain)

The power pair is smaller than I expected it to be @ 2 x 0.75mm2. I king of expected it to be about 1.5mm2

What is the correct calculation (formula) to work out what size conductors I need for low voltage AC or DC voltage please?

Also, a second calculation for voltage drop with distance might be helpful for the future.

Forgive my ignorance but if you don't ask you don't learn right?

dont take this the wrong way. you are in the uk. and you run a cctv business. do you not have any electrical back ground are you not p certified have you not done any 16th or 17th edition courses.

  16. I just hooked up 2 DVR's from my network and

Doing the :81 method worked. Thanks for your help.

hi sean. in your first post you say it was to view with iphone. 80 or 81 will not do it. it will want to load active x.

No entirely, some DVRs will automatically load a second stream for such devices which do not support ActiveX. But otherwise they also tend to use special software for the mobile devices.

true. he could just use a java iphone app. (refresh images) or if the dvr has a true app then it would be port relient

  17. In the case of your DVR, the internal webserver would be "listening" (for incoming http connections) to port 80, and once you're into the web interface, would use the other ports for its various other communications... so sending http requests directly to port 5050 would do nothing, because the webserver itself isn't listening to that port.

if a dvr has h264 stream for a iphone app then a port has to be assigned and also forwarded to the dvr. and used in the http... not always the case with some dvrs but if it has handyviewer then a port will have to be added to the http for say iphone or java application

  18. I am sure this is easy but I figured I would ask before I give out any advice.

I got a customer who has a 4 channel DVR that he can remotely view from his I-phone or the internet from a remote location just fine. He does this by simply visiting his WAN IP address, just for the heck, we will call it:

76.234.587.67 (I just made that up)

He also uses the following ports

    HTTP Port: 80

    Other Ports uses: 5050,6050, 7050

So if he is wanting to view that from a remote location, he simply types in 76.234.587.67 on Internet Explorer and voila, he can see his cameras.

He wants to add another DVR at that same location, but his question and my question is what IP address does he type in to connect to this DVR? My ASSumption was to simply apply slightly different ports numbers,

    HTTP Port: 81

    Other ports: 5051, 6051, 7051

And whenever he wants to logon remotely to the 2nd DVR, he just types in 76.234.587.67:81

Would this be correct or not? What hurdles would I face if any? And would he still use just 76.234.587.67 to login to his first DVR or would he now need to use 76.234.587.67:80

Thanks for any and all help.

hi sean. port 80 would not be the problem that would be for his webviewer. and he cant use 80 for his iphone.

with his other ports 5050/6050/7050 these will be for his remote software and his iphone ..... so yes you are right by just changing them by i digit each would let him see either dvr.

so not using port 80 ............. it would be 76.234.587.67:5050 for 1 dvr 76.234.587.67:5051 for the other dvr

  19. Did a bit of digging about (well actually spoke off the record to one of their tech guys) seems you can use a website called http://dvronline.net its not supported by anyone but it works good, you just need to input the dvr details and it does the rest!

As for happy customers, oh yeah they are happy with the systems that you put in and they paid for, then they read something on the internet/speak to a friend/speak to a guy in radio shack - whose system does this and that and the next thing and before you know it they want the Ford Fiesta with the Ferrari add ons!!

Been in this industry myself for twenty odd years and never actually had an unhappy customer however i've also never met one who didn't want more!

never ever use companys like dvr on line. 3rd party taking control of your customers security. if you can connect though a service like that then you can get the dvr on line as normal.

i see your in america. is your customer going to be happy with a company in korea monitoring his system.

  20. Hi Ilkie

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. Your answer is a little more detailed than I am looking for though. I basically need an idea of cameras already in use by councils/police to cover UK town centres. I am guessing that they use cameras with operational ranges of 500m max, so if that could be confirmed that would be enough for my study.

(I am not looking for a 100% perfect answer on this so if anyone has a rough idea it would be fine).

    rgds

    Dave

dave i take it your not in the UK.

  21. I am really just looking for installation advice. Like I have said I am happy with the system and it has already been checked by my license officer to insure it meets the standard, which it does. If I could sort the picture issue out they will be perfect.

math4. a license officer is called in before any install in a pub or bar is started. it is them that tells you what they want from the system for the enviroment. (and its done by the licencing officer from your local police station)

if you have had a police office come and see your system and he has signed it off (with the picture quality you have come onto the forum with) i will believe that when you post your DPA reg number on here.
