  1. I have two locations out of my 50+ systems complaining that as they use the Viewlog the mouse buttons quit responding. The mouse continues to move the buttons won't work to slow or pause the footage. When VNC'd into the system, the mouse portion responds normally. This usually occurs when using the video at 32x speed or changing a quad view to single view by clicking a camera. CPU and memory usage sit at about 50% even during video playback with no notable spike. One of the locations was running the Geovision 854 and has been updated to 855 (removed old software and reinstalled) and the other has always had 855.

I have updated the mainboard and usb drivers. I am running Intel Core I-5 2400 3.10 Ghz, 8 GB ram, 250 GB OS drive, 12 TB raided video drive Win 7 64-bit.

Anyone encounter this, have any tips I may have missed?

    Thanks

    Rob

  2. Thanks for the suggestions. We've gone to using USB drives for in-house security checks but the company wasn't comfortable with the price of using the drives for criminal investigations. We are currently using version 8 of Nero so I'm already 2 versions behind but the problem is that it does not like my 64 bit Win7.

I love Imgburn just wish it would do the multiple disc thing.

  3. I'm looking for suggestions on DVD burning software that will work with the Geovision software. We currently use Nero and of course its gotten so bloated and I'm constantly fighting with errors from it. We use it because everything else we've tried does not automatically burn to additional discs if the selected footage is too large for one disc. What are you all using?

  4. I have been searching for a connector cable and I can't seem to locate it. Our ARM Electronics WDR camera has a 2 prong video test out port. Our ARM Electronics 4SMKIT (service monitor) has a BNC connector. ARM reports they don't have a cable to connect the two. I know now that we bought the wrong service monitor as other brands include this cable. Anyone have any idea where I can get this online? Does it have a specific name?

    Thanks

    Rob

  5. Thanks for the ideas. I am attempting to use MS Deployment toolkit to automate the installs. Vender is going to be changing mainboards on me so I was hoping to avoid the image route but that may be the only way this time.

I'll also try the sysdiff program and see how successful I am with that. If I can get it down to registry entries I can import settings.

  6. Anyone know of a way to make the DVD-Rom available with the system locked down with Keylock? I'm trying to prevent my remote locations from disabling keylock to check the DVD's after burning. I attempted to add it via the customize menu option, but it wanted a file or exe not a drive. Got any suggestions?

  7. In my case that's just not possible. I do Help Desk for 112 remote locations. Basically the company had a security vender (the only one in town) and dropped them because it would take 4 months to get new systems or get systems repaired. It got dropped in my lap and now I'm just trying to learn everything I can. I've got the Geovision systems down, but with no way of actually hands on learning I'm looking for other avenues.

  8. Anyone know of any good CCTV training? I'd want something that has a good overview, not looking for certification yet. Basically my "job" is to set up, remotely troubleshoot, and repair both new installs and previously installed systems. I am also in charge of gathering information and intregrating new equipment. I do not get to hands-on install the equipment myself.

I am in the Kansas City region and would consider either online or classroom training. Any suggestions? Even a good book to read?

    Thanks

  9. This post struck a chord with me as we've done been through it several times. It finally took our distributer calling their supplier who called Usavision and conferenced us in. At one point we even tried to use the online chat help and they turned it off while we were waiting for a response. That cracked me up.

    Boss wasn't too pleased though.

  10. This is a problem that isn't a problem. What we ended up finding is that the locations, when viewing the viewlog with multicam, assumed that the timeline on the right was showing times for all of the camera's. In reality, it is showing the timeline for the selected camera or camera 1 as default. Once the correct camera is selected, the video shows up and all is good.

Keep telling the company, use these things the way they were meant for and quit using them in ways they were never intended or more of these kinds of issues are going to crop up.

  11. Is there a way to tell what firmware version is on 1120 and 1240 Geovision cards? Also, is there a way to go back to an older firmware version? 8.3 is just giving us too many problems and I'm looking to go back to 8.2. Am I wrong in thinking that cards upgraded to the 8.3 firmware won't work with the 8.2 main system?

    Thanks

  12. System is:

    3.00 Ghz Core 2 Duo

    2 GB ram

    250 GB OS Drive

    3 750 GB Video Drives

    XP Pro OS

These are new machines, most running 16 cameras but the one I pulled back to the office only has 10.

My vender called a distributor who called Geovision and got a tech on the line. After about an hour they came up with a place in viewlog to reload the database. This seemed to have worked but its only a workaround for a pretty big issue.

For anyone who may encounter the issue, Under the camera selections drop down is the advanced button (paper and magnafying glass). Select reload database, DVR and read all.

  13. I am encountering an issue with versions 8.31 and 8.32. It occurs with both the 1120 and the 1240 cards. The system will record the camera video just fine, however when the locations go into the viewlog to view the video, there are missing blocks of time where the video should be logged. When I use Control Center V2 to view the same log at the same time it shows all of the recorded video. A restart of the Geovision software on the DVR will fill in parts of the gaps, Most of the time several restarts are required to acquire all of the video.

Here's what I've done to troubleshoot:

Uninstalled, rebooted, removed program directories and reinstalled software using the latest available version.

    Rebuilt the database.

Made sure we are using the latest drivers from Geovision.

Started from scratch with a brand new install of OS (XP), Geovision software and related programs.

I currently have about 40 of these machines and the only ones having this issue are the ones with the 8.3 version of the software (approx 5 machines). What do you think? My vender has no clue and Geovision and USAVision support don't answer emails, calls or even the online "chat" feature they tout on the website. I've got 65 more locations that will be going on some sort of DVR system and Geovisions support system is really starting to push me away from using them for the new installs.

  14. Thanks for the info. I was concerned about selecting the correct card but it sounds like I will just have to match the card with the alarm interface. I tried to get them to do the easy way but they seem bent on the high tech way. I'm still trying to figure out how or if the system will be able to differenciate between a truck and a rabbit running through. They may just be hearing an alarm every time there is motion outside.

  15. My employer has tasked me with finding out if there is a way to hook up a Geovision DVR system to an alarm. Basically what they want to happen is lets say a large truck pulls up to the back door, the camera senses the motion and sets off the alarm or buzzer to alert those inside that there is a customer for them to open the doors.

I've looked and found the IO cards, however since I am inexperienced and got the DVR's for our organization dumped in my lap, I am just not sure how this would work or what hardware would be needed (there seem to be several types of IO cards).

Also, is there any way for the Geovision to differentiate between larger objects and smaller objects? We would want an alarm for a truck pulling up, but not for someone walking through the area.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
