  1. I have two facilities about 1/2 a mile apart. Our Equipment area has an old Hybrid System that privately labeled, but uses the Smart-Pss Program. (Dahua?) All my cameras there are IP cameras. I currently have 7 cameras set up there, but plan a minimum of 10.

My Office/Store has a newer hybrid system and only has CVI/TVI cameras hooked to it. That system is private labeled, but I am sure it is a Hikvision DVR. I use the iVMS-4200 software at the office/store.

I am planning on setting up a Ubiquity Bridge between the two facilities and want to be able to use the iVMS-4200 software to view all the cameras.

So, I am thinking I need a Hikvision NVR. I already have single cables run to each barn and garage with POE routers at each location so don't really need a POE NVR.

I want to be able to record 4K, but full time 4K monitoring is not necessary. Can someone please recommend me an NVR?

  4. Not quite understanding the terminology - Base.

You have one camera on the cable that doesn't work...have you connected another complete camera to the same cable? I assume so and it doesn't work either.

I assume you are getting 24V at the cable end without the camera connected. Connect the camera to the cable and test the voltage -- likely less than 1V.

    Replace the cable.

The base is the base of the PTZ camera. The base mounts to the ceiling and the camera twists into the base.

I ran a new video cable that that fixed it. The power cable tested 18v and was good.

    Thanks,

  5. The tester can be used for Cat5 and sends a ping down each wire that gets a corresponding return from the other end. On Cat5, there are 8 pings. With the BNC, 6 of those pings are dead, but there is two separate pings that come back.

I don't know if it would show me if the inner and outer were connected. Guess tomorrow, I need to get out the continuity tester and test it with both ends disconnected. Didn't think about that today. Maybe there is a nail through the cable somewhere.

  6. I have a Costar Fastrax dome camera that I can't seem to get a video signal from. Here are my troubleshooting steps:

    1. Test that I have power at the Base - Yes (24VAC)

    2. Test that the Co-ax cable is good by using Rosewill cable tester - good

    3. Swap camera with another camera - camera works in other base

    4. Change base out with new base - still no joy

    5. Put two brand new ends on cable - no joy

    6. Retest with cable tester - Have continuity

    7. Hooked camera with same base to DVR directly - both work

I have pretty much decided that even though the cable has continuity, it is not working. This sucks because I will have to fish new cable through the attic. But possible.

Why would a cable have continuity and no signal? Cable is only about 20 feet long.

    Thanks,

    Kirk
