  1. Hi, I am still in the testing phase with my CCTV setup. I was thinking about mounting a camera on the "roof" of my front porch. It would probably make it so that the camera was upside down (mount is on the bottom & if I drill it into the ceiling, the camera is pointing the right direction, but is upside down). Can this be done? I am also wondering if a camera is mounted slightly crooked, if you can adjust how geovision displays the camera (if it is tilted while mounted to the side of a building, can you straighten the image via software)? Thanks, Rich
  2. Ahh, so make sure you mount it pointing the right way is the best way to go then. Do they make universal mounting brackets that can go any way you want? Is there a "standard" bracket size?

Is the Geovision output cable RCA or BNC?

The GV-900 looks impressive to me, but the software features were really what I was thinking about.

Is the Geovision output cable RCA or BNC?

I am going over the demos & manuals for the Geovision & it looks like it could do everything including the dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. Amazing the amount of features it has. I have read for a few hours but its pretty impressive. Can you set it to email you a notification with a jpg image attached?
  5. Hi, I am wanting some opinions about if I should go for the power plug or power panel route for my home CCTV system. I think I will have 8-10 cameras by the end of the project, but they will be installed a little at a time. I think that Siamese wiring is the way to go & it makes me wonder if I should add a power supply female adapter & plug it in, or if I should leave the siamese power wire exposed & just run it into a power panel. I see plenty of 12v 8amp power panels on ebay or our own sponsors probably carry them as well. What is better or safer? Thanks, Rich
  6. Rory, I am aiming for a 16 port power supply box (might as well buy it correct the first time). I am planning on using bullet cameras & "hidden" motion detector cameras. There are so many versions of this Altronix power supply, I cant get it straight. I saw spytown had this one: Altronix ALTV615DC616 I think I need 12V DC for the cameras. I also see the 24v (whats that for? Is it the standard?) Can you recommend a good box for a home security situation? I would like to keep it under $175.00 (plus shipping). It doesnt look like video insight carries that brand at all. THanks, Rich
  7. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5852076660 How about that? Or this? http://cgi.ebay.com/16-Channel-Professional-CCTV-24V-AC-Power-panel_W0QQitemZ5852390072QQcategoryZ48637QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Or is ebay a no no for these boxes?
  8. Is there a female power adapter cable similar to Securitymonster's Male power cable?
  9. Rory, Is there a good way to find the sites advertisers or just put a feeler out in the classified section? I know one of the site sponsors, but I am not really sure who else is an advertiser. Thanks, Rich
  10. any suggestion on where to buy?
  11. That sounds like it would be very tough or you would have to drill a 1/2 inch hole in the wall to get the cable in.
  12. Hi, I have been looking at 8 channel cards that have 120fps & 240fps. There seems to be a few different types of resolution but 320x240 & 640x480 seem to be common. Does the resolution make a difference when it comes to FPS? If you see a card that says it does 120FPS, does that mean it does 120FPS at 320x240 & 60FPS at 640x480? If you have a 8 port card at 120fps, is it 120fps/8channels = 15fps per camera or port? If I have 4 cameras only, will it default to 30fps? If I go with a 16 port card at 120fps, does that make it 7.5 fps for 16 cameras? I just want to get the "standard" math together. Does the resolution eat away the FPS? Is the rest of my math correct? Thanks, Rich
  13. I am not quite sure I understand what your saying. I was looking at these cameras & I am getting some quotes from the vendors online (at this site). At the moment, this the example. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5849765210 In that camera, the ends coming out look like one is a female power & one is a female "bnc/rca". I am not sure about the terminoligy, so to me, everything that isnt a power is a bnc (Side Note: is BNC female & RCA Male - is that the only difference?) If I was using that camera with siamease cable, I would want to take the "raw' end of the cable & put some sort of "end" on it to be able to plug it into the camera. I would need a Male video & a male power. I am not sure where to get these. I have used simple 2 wire stereo wires before. My buddy who is going to help me is pretty experienced. He did have some concerns on putting an "end" on the raw power wires (making it look nice).
  14. Well, the short version is that I also sell on ebay & have some $$ in a paypal account. I get hit with a % surcharge from ebay when selling shirts, then I get hit by paypal for another % for accepting paypal. To send the money to my bank account is another %. So, I would rather just spend the paypal money on ebay then put it on a visa card. I know that might be a little pennywise but oh well.
  15. Hi, I am a new member to this group & the amount of information is staggering. I feel like I have come home. I have purchased a new house (to me) a few months ago & have wanted to do a 6 camera setup for my home. I am looking to use the cameras for some remove viewing and for motion detection. Speaking of which, are all cameras capable of motion detection & the PC DVR card / software controls the motion detection recording? I would like the setup to record motion events and I would also like to be able to view the cameras remotely on the internet. I plan to use no TV for viewing (only PC's even when in my house). I have a dedicated PC picked out for this "project" I am hoping to get some advice for my setup as I plan to buy most of the cameras from Ebay. For my outdoor cameras I was thinking of using these for where it might get a little wet: (1/3" Sony Super HAD CCD 36 IR LED Weatherproof Camera) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5849765210 I cant find any model numbers so I cant be sure if this is the right thing for me. ______________________________________________________________________ This is the camera I was thinking of for outside but where it is covered: (1/3" Sony CCD Day&Night Color Dome Camera 0.01Lux) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5847383571 I am only thinking of using two, but these were the cameras I was thinking of. ______________________________________________________________________ This was what I was thinking of using for the inside: (2512 COLOR DSP PIR HIDDEN CAMERA ) http://www.cctvimports.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_36&products_id=219 ______________________________________________________________________ This is what I was figuring for the DVR card: (8CH Real Time Pro 640x480 Hi-res. 240f/s. DVR Card) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5850613910 The 240 FPS appeals to me since I will probably have 8 cameras at some point. the 240 / into 8 cameras = 30FPS. ______________________________________________________________________ That will be my full setup. I dont want to waste money by buying everything twice. I would like to purchase using paypal but a credit card is fine too.
  16. One last thing with the pimfg.com page. If I wanted to use a roll of siamese cable. From the outside of the house to the camera, going in the inside of the house, if I ran the female BNC & Female power into the house, what part would I want to connect the female power to the exposed siamese power wire (I assume I want a male connecter to splice together or solder together). What would I want to use to connect the female power to the exposed wire? A male .... Which part number?
  17. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5852076660 What about something like that? I was actually thinking about the "crimping" on the camera end with the power. I am not sure what you would use to "crimp" or what adapter you would use either.
  18. Is that standard that the end coming out of the camera (BNC & Power) are both female ends? I was wondering about that a bit, is there a kit for making your own siamese cable?
  19. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5850613910 I am looking into buying that but wanted to know if anyone had any ideas on what card it might actually be?
  20. Is there anything wrong with the GV-800 cards on Ebay? They look closer to an OEM card than a retail package but who needs all the packaging? If they are copies (which at those prices I guess they might be) whats wrong with using them (from a technical standpoint)? If they work & work with the Geovision 7.0 software isnt that OK? I can see that you might not be able to upgrade the software, but from what I have seen, the card should still work (maybe not without all the new features).
