  1. In all my years working computer forensics and installing CCTV I have never had someone tell me something has been digitally deleted. Its either deleted or its not.

Now someone may tell me it has been overwritten but that is a different story.

Recovery is usually possible, depending on the operating system and the file system in use on the drive.

  2. Sounds like what you are referring to is remote viewing, where one can view the DVR from either a computer or a mobile device, this is not the same as cloud storage of the recorded data.

Are you looking for a cloud storage solution or a DVR/NVR which offers remote viewing?

  3. Hi everyone, I just got a job to install 10 camera system on a 2 story house. All the houses I have done in the past have been single story and my question is how hard or easy is it to get runs from 2nd floor to the 1st floor? or do I leave everything high. I am in Florida and the 2 story houses here have solid concrete between 1st ans 2nd floor. I am trying not to run cables on the walls outside of house down to first floor. any ideas please.

    Thanks

The answer to your question will come down to what does the customer want? I have had customers which say run the cable outside along the wall because they want to reduce cost, and I have had other customer who want all the wiring run through the walls because they want it to look nice.

  4. You can use something like procmon from the system internal toolkit.

The built in task manger will also show you what is eating up CPU cycles.

I have never tried to get different cameras to work under axis camera companion.

  5. Hi everyone!

We need to design a CCTV system for our jewelry shop.

Last time I checked into CCTV systems, digital equipment was just starting to get popular a little bit.

I was wondering what type of equipment you would recommend for our shop. We're going to need about 6-8 cameras, a DVR. Specific camera and DVR recommendations would be really appreciated.

    Thanks v much

Talk to your insurance company first.

I have never heard of an insurance company telling a company or home owner they are not allowed to install a CCTV system. From an installer point of view I carry failure to perform insurance from an insurance company so if his jewelry store were to be robbed and my install failed for some reason I am covered, but its up to me to have that insurance, not the customer.

This is exactly why I use junction boxes, I mean the cost is billed back to the customer anyways.

WELL SAID, the whole point of a junction box is to weatherproof the connections and to make them accessible so the camera can be positioned and focused without the need to move it again. A IP Junction box is our service access point.

Unfortunately, some cameras just don't look right with a junction box next to them, i.e those little eyeball domes, and they have a deep ring that replaces their base and creates space for the connections, but there are two things wrong with that too.

Firstly it's impossible to access the connections to target the camera and the damn things cost £10 each which is in some cases 30% the original cost of the camera. Finally and here's the killer, they aren't water resistant in the least.

They seem like an poorly thought-out jerk-reaction to an installer issue. Whichever MORON thought these out, has never had to install a CCTV camera in their life.

( the far right one is mine)

To make these work FOR you, you still need to install conduit and a junction box near the camera to make the connections accessible and thats if the lead from the camera is long enough. On some cheap cameras they are often not long enough to go anywhere except in a JB directly next to the camera YUK looks awful.

I see this all the time when people want to install bullet camera outside, they want it wall mounted and they want me to shove the connections in the hole in the wall allowing the cabling to enter the house. I have never done this and never will, seen many people ruin the pigtales from the camera doing this.

I usually end up mounting the bullet directly to the junction so they it is sort of hidden behind the camera.
