I don't think dahua software is garbage. It's not perfect, but it's far from garbage. Someone would have to prove to me how wonderful hikvision software is. So far, no one speaks a word about what it can do better than dahua. All I hear about is hikvision cameras. Almost nothing about their nvr's or software. Until I read or view a comprehensive review on a hikvision nvr, it's remote software, and it's mobile software, I have to assume it's nothing special. The few small glimpses of it all have left me unimpressed, leaving me much in favor of PSS and gdmss+ or idmss+ mobile software.

Also keep in mind that 4 of those cameras are only indoor rated. For me CVI was a temptation but because I'd have to take down my premade cable anyway because it's not good enough, it makes more sense to just redo everything to networking when I'm ready.

I'm not exactly sure, but mine is such that sensitivity has small, medium, large. At small, the camera will only sense large and obvious movement. At large, the camera will sense anything that comes into view. I seem to do well with medium. The trickier setting if yours has it is zoom match. This is how much the camera will zoom to the target as it tracks. You'll have to set yours and test it to understand what settings work best for your application.

There's probably other noise reduction settings in the menu that are on by default which could cause this. Look for DNR or light finder or sens up type settings and turn them off or all the way down and slowly come up until you get rid of as much noise as you can before motion blur sets in.

Glad you got it sorted. You might want to pick up another power supply along the way with the exact specs the original has. Couldn't hurt.

Sometimes you get a lemon, it's just the way it is. Doesn't mean they're all bad. But it can mean you need to get a different source if you're not being supported.

Are you sure it's not a power issue? One of the first things to check when motorized cameras start odd behavior is the power source. What are you powering it with? Can you try alternate power to see if it helps?

You could also do better with a porch light on, but lights are lights and bug are bugs. IR will also show dust particles and fog will look like a blizzard. All that combined makes IR a challenge to deal with. But an exterior light some ways away from the camera can help. You can mask that area out of motion detection to avoid some of the bug activity and eliminate a huge amount of fog and dust triggering. Good luck.

I have plenty of motion events and time lines that look like that. When a real problem arises that you have to review, it's usually still easy enough to narrow down the event. I've never had a problem doing it. If you want to cure most of your false triggers, install PIR which will give you true motion events instead of pixel based motion detection.

It actually looks out of focus, as though it's focusing on the eave. For sure moving it a bit will cure a lot of the problems.

I wouldn't fill the zoom and focus holes with silicon. Keep those operational.

You're not the only one who would have checked on the poor little doe eyed deer first, good grief. If it had been a dog or cat, I would have been concerned for that first because it's someones pet. But a deer, no. Not for me anyway. They are a total nuisance and I have to drive super carefully each and every night because they are so unpredictable...and down right dumb. The deer was out of sight in the woods- gone. That's why I didn't go check on the freakin deer. If it were flailing around in the road I would have made a call to address that. But that wasn't the case and I wasn't about to go into the woods and see how the deer made out. I get where you're coming from. I'm not heartless. But when you've swerved enough and had enough near misses and now hit one, it gets old and very frustrating. And now that spring is marching on I have another thing to watch for- kamikaze birds. They're probably young and don't know any better but NOT having one fly into the car is nothing short of a miracle. That lasts a couple weeks. All that is in addition to raccoon, possums, and every other dopey thing. You'd think I live in the sticks, but I don't. And that's what makes it even more frustrating.

Sometimes a couple years old is the best you're gonna get. Sucks, but true. I'd try unscrewing the halves.

Huh, not sure how, looking at that. Even if you can, the seal somehow is shot and it would likely keep recurring. You're probably better off getting a new camera. Once they take on moisture, it comes back again and again.

By and large, hikvision nvr's remain a total mystery. No one has ever done an indepth demo of one, try as I may on numerous occasions to get one. Good luck.

Many isp's block port 80. There are times if you're a business location that you can request and get port 80 open. My isp will do that for you as long as you also have 'boost' on your account, a higher level package. Short of getting port 80 open, use another port and forward that port, such as 89, etc.

Which cameras are you comparing, Op? if recording to a card is important to you, it will lean you towards hikvision.

Have you enable dyn settings in the router and chosen No-ip from the list and put in your No-ip account info? The router needs that set because it acts as the updater. Also confirm there is no other ports the camera needs open. Which reminds me, what camera are you talking about?

Are you using Internet Explorer and not chrome? Chrome usually needs IE tab plug-in to make it work. Also, you've got your active-x settings right? Also are you entering your No-ip address with the port you're using, like yourcams.no-ip.biz:89

Do they make an 8 channel with alarm in/out? And does anyone carry it? All I've seen is a great 8 channel nvr with poe, but no alarm in/out- useless for my needs. And currently about the only reason why I'd still have to choose dahua instead. I could consider switching if someone would carry the damn thing- if there even is one!

You have an okay budget, but your needs you state are modest. You could do fine with analog, as your prerequisites read. If you don't need much out of a system, why be concerned with a 'step above' and spending big bucks? Wanting a step above but needing a step below doesn't square. You can always justify spending a bunch of money on expensive, quality equipment. But just make sure it isn't complete overkill for what your actual need is. I guess I'd be a bad salesman, lol. I'm not good at up selling just because.

That's what the login page for your Dvr should look like? Try logging in by domain and see if you can plug in your No-ip address and 87 port... or maybe 90.

Don't enclose it in an unventilated cupboard. If you think it's overheating, more problems than a mouse will arise.

I thought you said you got ie working with port 90. You can also try typing http:// in front of your noip address too. But you need to add :90 or :87 at the end. Your router will act as the updater, nothing further needed there. As long as port 87 is open and forwarded, that's the one you need to use. Try checking to see its open at canyouseeme.org, I think that's the address. And you must use ie, not chrome. Most times you can only use Chrome if you add an IE tab plug-in.
