  1. One other idea is also to make a fake DVR in place of where someone may think a DVR should be.

For example, use an older DVR with extra cables coming out of it going under a piece of furniture or by a wall, and if someone comes looking for your DVR, they will find a fake and leave happy, but recorded.

It is similar to the fake wallet trick while traveling on vacation!

    Thanks

  2. You can pick up some seagate barracudas for a decent price still, although higher than normal, but sill affordable.

Yup, just picked up one for 119.99 1 tb, 7200 rpm

that is a great price - i got some for a little more then that today

  3. Yeah only reason is because my mom had no idea how to operate the cams we set up at her place.

So I went to Costco and got her one of those Revo systems. Now she's showing off her iphone app to all her friends lol. She can control the garage door and the electric gate too. She's quite happy with it and I'm quite happy without the headaches hehe.

Ha, I also installed one for my parents and gave them an iPhone to watch the cameras

make sure she updates the app - there are always new versions coming out

  4. Yep, I just looked it up online and it looks like the same thing. Is this what one of yours looks like with an outdoor fanned enclosure?:

and here is just the camera module:

Yes that is a Hitron manufactured PTZ. Not a bad little jewel eh? Good design too I think.

I have a couple of the Hi-Tron PTZ's in my office as well - quite nice to setup, and they look good in white as well

  5. I am getting way to many motion alerts from my current system. I have Aposonic cameras... the $55 ones.

My dvr manufacturer said that the cameras are producing to grainy of an image and I need to upgrade. Okay, I'll buy that. I am unsure what spec I need to look for when purchasing new cameras. The current cameras are having trouble adjusting to changes in ambient lighting during the day. Sky goes cloudy? That could mean 8-10 alerts.

So, camera recommendations in the $100 each range? And what specs need I pay attention to for the aforementioned issues?

Look at the CCD Resolution, as well as something that can do Day/Night - so a camera with IR LEDS !

The other reply about a better DVR is true as well, also make sure to mount them in a good location (IE not looking up at the sky)
