    Bosch Access Control

Looks like it's the Radionics ReadyKey and EasyKey lines. It's been so long since I worked with it, I cannot remember much about it. Sorry
  2. What is the distance from the reader to the access panel? The limit with Wiegand is 500 feet, and that's with the proper wire. What wire is used in the circuit? It's supposed to be shielded, NON twisted pair. What access system is it? Some systems will give errors if the card does not match the settings in the system. Is there any information in the event log? What is the reader mounted on or near? Some high voltage interference might affect the card reads. Is it the same card all the time? Does the same card work at the other readers? Does the same reader sometimes read a card and sometimes reject the same card?
  3. The reason there's a reflection is because of the light on the same side of the glass as the camera. A very ugly way would be to put some thick dark material around the lens and connect the other end to the glass (think of the light cover used on old time film cameras. It would be easier if the area to cover wasn't so large, but it might work. Another idea would be to try a piece of polarized glass covering the lens. They're used by fishermen to see through the glare (which is just reflected sunlight) on the water.
  4. Dedicated Micros DVR's used to (as of a year or two ago) put the operating system on the primary hard drive. If it goes bad, you have to get it fixed by the factory. I think you can replace the other drives in a multiple drive system, but unless something has changed, the primary drive has the OS, and you can't just slap another one in.

    Playstation 3

I saw a PS3 on display the other night. The graphics looked amazing.... except that the game had locked up! If I want that kind of performance, I'll get a PC

    PS3?

    Dark Pictures

Havve you tried the cameras on different known good inputs on the recorder? Put known good cameras onto those ports to see if the problem follows the cameras or the ports? If the head end supports it, does each individual input have color/brightness/etc adjustments? How is the wire run? Check it for ground faults?

Haven't run across that yet... don't jinx me!

Alarm & Access Control Lock out codes

Our company policy is that if I can't reprogram it, we replace the panel and one keypad at no charge (we do charge for additional keypads to be replaced). Seems to work well for us.

    Netmedia Modulators and Camodulators

I've used the MM70 a couple of times, and I have had no problems to speak of. Simple to set up, and gives a good picture, and doesn't appear to hamper the normal cable TV signal.

    Dedicated Micros DS2 rebooting problem

Yes, the OS is on the master hard drive. That is the complaint I have about DM, for the amount of money they charge, there ought to be a better setup. Even the BX2, which has removable drives...

    Dedicated Micros DS2 rebooting problem

Does it only reboot during programming? Or does it constantly reboot? If it's only during programming, is it at the same point in programming? If so, what point? Has DM tech had any thoughts on the matter? I doubt it's static electricity, unless it was one heck of a pop! I've had units constantly reboot, and the problem has always been a bad drive. Have you checked the outlet the unit is on? Is there a UPS on the unit? Sorry I had more questions than answers.

    Ge Storesafe II connecting problems

Outside computers? The same or different? How long have you been using these computers with GE? Through Wavereader or browser? If it's Wavereader, make sure you're working with the latest version of Wavereader, cause the Storesafe II didn't work well with versions before (I think) 4.2.19. It would say connected for a few seconds, but never get video. Just something to check out

    remote recording

Have a customer who wants to monitor and record his shop cameras at his home. The place was broken into and they managed to destroy the DVR recently. Both ends will have high speed internet, what systems are there to do this? We're talking about 10 cameras max. Thanks

    remote recording

We've got cameras in place and would like to use them still if possible. Is there a multiplecer/broadcaster?

    License Plate Camera

Looking for opinions on a camera to read license plates from about 20 meters. I can get a good image on a camera from that distance, but I am wanting to know about being able to get a good picture at night. Should I use a standard camera with a spot light, or is there a good alternative that won't be overpowered by the headlights at night? Thanks

    why video baluns ?

I'm not 100% sure about the connection. Did you just stick the wires into the bnc output port? Or was there two terminals to hook to? What about the monitor side? Same thing? Was the wire coiled up in the box still? I'm wondering if it was just in the box how it would look actually run through a ceiling? (Just playing devil's advocate) Coax is really just a two conductor, and I know the shape helps when you're carrying multiple RF signals down it (TV), I'm not sure about how it's needed for composite video, since there's only one signal that doesn't really need RF modulation. It would be neat to see controlled experiments using two conductor wire, twisted and untwisted, shielded and unshielded, to see if there is an appreciated difference. Heck, when I first saw a balun I thought it was just an adapter to let you use two conductor and connect it to a BNC output.

Woman Sues Over Nanny Cam Footage

But, how many people had to drop the ball to get this all the way to an arrest and charges and the media? She is suing Tyco also for distorting the footage. I know it may just be a case of going after the deepest pockets, but if not, that would make the parents, the security techs, the cops, and the DA. NONE of them thought to check the playback speed? Sounds like some major breakdown in common sense...

Where's a good place to buy Software online?

I'm not sure of any place you can download M$ software online, and LEGIT. I've got stuff from NewEgg, and been satisfied with the prices and the speed of delivery.

    Trouble with digital cameras

There is apparently a problem with some models of digital cameras and camcorders made before 2005. The problem causes the color to smear or the image to go completely black. It affects about 100 models from several manufacturers. A complete list can be found here. Hope this helps someone else. It looks like it's going to save me $200+ I don't know if any CCTV cameras have used this faulty CCD module, but the problem seems to be accelerated with high heat and humidity, so it would probably be noticed much sooner.

    Multi Monitors

I have dual monitors, and I love it. Mine is a little awkward because the second monitor is a foot above the main one. I need a new desk so I can put them side by side.
