    CCTV Cable selection

145 metres is ok for rg59 as long as you use good quality coax and not cheap coax cable youll be fine. it needs to be rg59 c/u not b/u

    Night vision

its down to how sensitive the camera is and what frequency the ir unit gives out, most ir lamps are 840 approx i think but some can be in the 700's and 900's so depending what the camera frequency range is willl depend on wether it can pick it iup or not

Unsure of which cameras to buy

hi there i agree go for good quality equipment and look roudn for recommendations like this on which ive used 9 now and find the camera to be very good quality http://www.aliexpress.com/item/-/1131342782.html i have 4 on oour house and can get a face or reg zoomed in around 50-100 feet away from camera statics ive been using hundreds of these http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Genuine-960H-1-3-Sony-CCD-Effio-E-700TVL-36-LEDs-IR-2-8-12mm-Varifocal/1045146511.html and again have got alot in premises all with very good reviews of clients. our reg plate camera happens to be this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Outdoor-Bullet-Colour-Weatherproof-Covert-CCTV-Camera-4-9mm-vari-560TVL-Exview-/221302347394?pt=UK_CCTV&hash=item3386a5d682 and num plates can be caught from end of driveway no probs as you can see day and night, an infrared lamp is mounted on concrete pad round side of lights post out of view power supply i use and have used lots of these for a couple of years to make a neat looking install is http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-9-Channel-CH-CCTV-CCD-10A-Security-Camera-Power-Supply-Box-Free-Shipping-2952/888133647.html hope this helps

    PTZ problem

sounds like it could be a loose cable somewhere between pcb and motor connection, maybe a plug or connection has come loose?

Need help finding a compatible PTZ Camera

yes its outside weatherproof, you just need 2 core flex for power form power supply, screened beldon or cat 5 for rs485 to dvr/controller and rg59 to dvr for video feed

    ir issues

id suggest running 2 power supplies and putting half cameras on 1 5 amp psu and half the cameras on the other

id recommend this camera ive used approx 9 up to now and been very pleased with the results http://www.ebay.com/itm/10X-ZOOM-SONY-700TVL-4-MINI-High-Speed-Dome-Camera-IR-Outdoor-PTZ-CCTV-Camera-/161241336454?pt=US_Security_Cameras&hash=item258abb8a86 it has 10x zoom for the same price

    ir issues

sounds like there isnt enough current being given by power supply, you may have to put an additional power supply in one front end and one back end what amperage power supply have you used
  22. cctvmann

    Setting up a old camera

that would be the way id do it but im a cctv engineer with wi 10years in the trade as long as its 1500mA 12v dc any powersupply could be used
  23. cctvmann

    Setting up a old camera

ok i gather you need to know what you need to buy, ok here goes, firstly are you going to just put to a monitor if so youd need a bnc to phono converter and 2 crimped bns, a length of rg59 to go from camera to monitor or dvr, then a 1500mA power supply in say dc 12 v something like in the picture attached the just run a piece of 2 core flex from power supply pcb connection to the connection point on camera
  24. cctvmann

    Setting up a old camera

the camera is more than likely already setup to the best settings, but the power is either 24 v AC or 12v DC you'd be best to get a power supply rated at 1500mA to give came enough working current the video cable should be a bnc on rg59 which connects to the bnc on back of camera half way down the power connection is polarity sensitive on dc voltage so pos must got to + and neg must go to - otherwise you could blow the camera
