http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vista-VS082A-8-Way-Video-Switcher-with-2-monitor-Outputs-and-Alarms-CCTV-camera-/131120523505?pt=UK_CCTV&hash=item1e876468f1 i dont suppose this is any good to you is it?
  7. id agree with shockwave on the bold line. ive got cctv and quite a comprehensive system including speed domes, with intelligent ir, plus static domes, alarms that event log, and also spin the domes round, plus a registration number plate camera as well. this is all set to alarms inside and out, im of the opinion they are deterrant and if nothing happens then the cameras have done their job, worth my money that i put into the system,
  8. i dont think its a fire hazard but more a quality issue.

    under-powered cable question

inmho youd be better to pull a new cablein and not try using old cable thats not fit for purpose surely you can go thru the loft or lift a couple floorboards to get a new cable where it needs to go.
  13. I have talked with a lot of people about motion detection and they have all told me that even $2000 cameras still have problem with false positives when it comes to motion detection. So any form of reliance of motion detection is off the table as far as I am concerned. A camera that can be triggered via a door sensor will be 100%, so why would I even consider anything that would be less then that. I agree that wifi can be untrustworthy in some case, but In my case it has never failed me. If it becomes a problem the solution would be to use the existing power source as the Ethernet through the use of a powerline product, instead of running a whole new Ethernet line. I currently have two wide angle camera installed in a crisscross pattern and they do not give me complete coverage of the area I need to see. Just for conversation sake. What exactly is PIR? ive just seen your message i have these cameras and they are absolutely superb even with no external lighting they see for 50+ metres. register and order one and youll be chuffed to bits http://www.aliexpress.com/item/H-264-Outdoor-waterproof-700TVL-10x-Optical-Zoom-mini-IR-speed-dome-PTZ-camera-Security-ir/1131342782.html

  16. anybody have an idea as i could do with getting a replacement test monitor lead if only i can find out which connector type is used, any help greatly received.
  17. hi there does anyone know what type of connector this is called it is a male connector on camera and female connector on the cable with a standard bnc plug (male) for setting up the camera on a test monitor. cheers
  18. Thanks for the recommendations! Good point about low light vs no light. There is probably only scant moonlight when nobody is there at night, but I can check with the client to see if there would be any issue with leaving some lights on. The first cam is probably a bit expensive for this client, but the second looks pretty nice. I don't think the client would have a problem cleaning for spiders and such periodically so long as they are aware that it needs to be done. I think I would prefer to have something with IR, and we can deal with the trade-offs that come with it. Located in Western Kentucky, USA. Where is a good place to get these Dahua cameras? Any other recommendations for a camera with IR that's under the $1000 mark? http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2013-New-Sony-CCD-Effio-e-700TVL-Array-IR-IP66-Outdoor-Mini-IP-PTZ-Speed-Dome/1423243540.html what about this i have the non ip version camera and find it superb
  19. I'd say the camera has a fault with the sensor chip I'd replace and see if it happens again you could also use a multimeter to check the voltage at the camera end to see if its fluctuating between voltages

    Cheap Cameras: Opinions?

my opinion is its best to try different cameras of different styles and see what the limitations to each camera is, in different environments. for example we have these (vrcd5302) ok with external lighting but have no ir cut filter so ir isnt detected by this camera, the middle pictured camera has built in ir for night vision so they perform alot better due to emitting the ir from the camera itself. (mini ir 10x speed dome) im looking at replacing all out genie 5302's with a small varifocal static dome like these type (s3) the night vision on the next post due to only allowing three pictures is from the genies and the mini ir speed domes. (to follow)
