    Not to do guide?

Don't try to repair the camera yourself if you have to cut and splice a new power cable, it voids the warranty. (at least for the supplier that I work at)

    HikVision Remote Access Problem

When you are trying to view locally, are you using your external static IP or the internal local IP of the DVR? If your router doesn't support NAT loopback, you have to use the local IP of the DVR to view it when you are on the local network.
  3. Generally, the larger your coverage area, the higher the megapixel you should go. Most affordable now are 1.3mp and 3mp fixed lens IP cameras, in 2.8mm and 4mm You don't really need varifocal lens unless you have a far away target area. Warranty shouldn't cost you too much extra, because it doesn't cost the installers too much extra. Camera and DVR and hard drives usually have different warranty periods, DVR are 2 years and cameras are 1 year. Ask him if he also covers the cameras for two years. Go with the LTS installer haha but their company tech support is a hit or miss, usually you have to call your installer then they call LTS for support, end user have to wait if its really busy. Warranty/repair they are good they won't give you BS reasons on why you can't return something as long as its under warranty, just don't cut the video/power cables (it voids the warranty), and no repair/labor/replacement fee if under warranty (don't know if the vendor will charge you though). Actually for warranty the installer must ask the supplier for replacement, you as the end user cannot do it. Because the supplier doesn't have the end user's information (can't just give out replacement to anyone that said they bought from them right?). SO, if your installer goes out of business or disappears a month after your job, then you are pretty much on your own for the warranty period.
  4. Hmm maybe also economy of scale...looks like they use the same hardware regardless of channel numbers (one machine for 4,8,16,32 chs) . Where as Hikvision makes a different machine for 4 ch, 8 ch, 16 ch and 32 ch. But the question is the max bitrate per camera that NVR is rated for is 8192. Even 16 cameras at max bitrate will only needs 132 Mbps. Only actual use for the 42xx series would be for the 32 channel model one i think. Unless they are priced very cheaply to use it for all channel numbers.
  5. Might be something similar to what Hikvision did in early 2013...their 16 ch and 32 ch NVR was rated for 40 Mbps and 80 Mbps respectively. Then a few months went by and some firmware upgrade doubled their recording bandwidth to 80 Mbps and 160 Mbps. Hardware was kept the same.
  6. Try with both analog BNC output and VGA output. Also, turn on the DVR with the mouse connected and the monitors ON. If you do not get mouse cursor, disconnect and connect again the mouse. I have had some customers with that same problem. I have no clue on what monitor they use, but the problem has always been on the customers side, when they bring the DVR to test here it always works great in our set ups. Yeah if you don't plug in the monitor before you turn it on, it might be stuck on a secondary menu display. because the machine is set to display the menu in this order when its set to 'auto': HDMI->VGA->BNC So turn off the machine, plug in your vga monitor, turn on the machine, menu should display in the VGA monitor if your mouse works. You can change this setting in the NVR under Configuration->General->more settings
  7. Machine thinks there is a hard drive error (since there's no HD) , it will beep until you install a HD and format it. If you need to turn off the beeping, go to configuration-->exceptions-> change to All-->apply
  8. If you use DYNDNS don't use HIDDNS as register mode, use IP/Domain. Local IP of DVR goes to the port forwarding part. inbound and outbound are the same number usually. I think your issue is using hiddns with dyndns...
  9. you can try to upgrade your router if you have an older style one, that camera supports up to 802.11 n
  10. haha it'll never look as good as straight from DVR, that's just the way it is. You can try to set your main stream to the highest quality. Doesn't look bad for the amount of coverage and for being analog and online.

    DVR Overheating

best way is to find a lockbox with a fan if yours doesn't come with it. secondly inside the mother board of the DVR should be a two pin connection for a small PC fan, and see if the housing has a opening to screw in the fan.
  12. Probably looking online through sub stream, find a way to change to main stream. Some you have to right click on the video then select main stream, some you have to click on the bubbles next to the camera name to get to main stream. If you can't find it, can you post a screen shot of the online user interface then probably some of us know how to do it?
  13. Any warranty? Or as is? =o

    Beeping Motherboard

Is your buzzer function turned on? check under 'alarm out' section of the menu
  15. First I would ping the DVR's local IP address and see if you get a reply. Then I would make it work on the computer's browser then try again on to the mobile devices.
  16. I'll try to help from the 4 file names you gave it sounds like one of the DVRs I'm familiar with the process. Check out this guide first though. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8lpz8hg661am72w/How%20to%20setup%20logo.pdf Can you take a picture of the menu and let me confirm its the same series of machine?
  17. delete all accounts except admin (sometimes they make test accounts) change password for admin don't forget the password or make sure u know the master reset password. usually master reset only works at the machine itself.

    Hikvision IP cameras

even other manufacturer is like that...they offload the cost of tech support and warranty to the distributor/reseller. So do your research and make sure the reseller will support you.
  19. Do you mean plug the laptop into the NVR? There is no separate switch so can you amend the directions accordingly? The cameras are there on that side of the house because there are bedroom windows and it also allows access to the back yard. There were previous break-ins at this property before we bought the house. Is your NVR the ones with built-in POE? or you are using separate POE switch? If its built-in POE, plug your laptop into one of the POE ports. (you might have to take out one camera first) If its separate POE you can plug it into the router and access the cameras.
  20. Smart IR is the culprit here. Which is odd because the default Smart IR should be off...at least in the new firmware. How to do it? 1. plug laptop into poe switch 2. set network on laptop to be same as the poe switch 3. access the camera by their local ip address, which is assigned by the poe switch 4. after you logged in, go to configuration->Image->Day/Night switch, turn off the Smart IR, and it should save automatically. Do you need to protect the wall from graffiti or something?
  21. What brand of IP camera do you have? I would use a hybrid Hikvision stand alone NVR instead of Geovision. If you have it already...a good PC software is Blue-iris or Milestone which will work with multiple Brands, but not familiar with them.

Who makes who in the world of IP cameras?

I have seen an American Dynamics (by Tyco) DVR before, oddly the menu/user interface and password was very similar to Hikvision...even the ports they used were identical.
  23. IVMS 4200 software for Hikvision has synchronized playback, the amount of total cameras you can play back is limited by the specs of your computer though, the more the laggier. I have seen 4-8 before. But they are not PC based hardware...usually use with a hikvision NVR iVMS4200 only support hikvision stuff though.
  24. Hmm no real way around it, use the local address when inside the house and use the outside address when outside the house. Usually you can create two devices name
  25. If you are using domain name your router might not work for inside (since domain name translates external IP to a name) its something called NAT Loopback support...
