    Securing IP Cameras!

For the phone you actually don't need the http port opened, just do the server and rtsp port. Changing ports and passwords helps alot and opening as least ports as possible. If you use the software that came with the CD of the camera on the PC to connect then you also don't need the http port, not allowing browser access will secure it even more.

    Hikvision Vs. Acti

noname do you work for Hikvision too? lol There's not too much choices in Hikvision cameras ...i don't think it'll get to the point where it needs a product selector. one client of mine literally only use 10% 4.0mm and 90% 2.8mm of the dome version 3 MP camera. he said it is all he needs. look for the model with (S) for audio/alarm. almost all of them are IP66 so they can be used indoor and out, except box cameras. Hikvision as well as us have live online demo if you want to try.
  3. If setting up is the problem, i'm sure the kind-hearted people on this forum will help you ~ Its not that hard to set up. How much did you pay for it from aliexpress?
  4. Hmm it makes the folder automatically for each date when I take a snapshot manually...I don't have a NAS to try though sorry.
  5. Hikvision has that function too (or maybe just our custom firmware?) Configuration->Advanced->Storage->Snapshot I THINK that's what you want...haha enable the event triggered snapshot..
  6. Some screenshots of your problem would help... I mostly help with Hikvision stuff since I sell them for a living, and qsee uses Dahua... Sounds like you are using the wrong plugin when u use remote IP...Win 8 shouldn't be using QuickTime (which is for safari?) If you use IE, add the remote IP under compatibility setting under Tools. Usually fixes most browser problems. Last resort is to use the PSS software that should be in the CD.
  7. Good u got the 8 ch machine! Just connect everything to the router. There is a camera menu under the main menu, go there to detect your camera in the network and add to your NVR. The user manual explains it pretty well.
  8. They do make a 8 ch with 4 poe but its not that popular . you can check the real model if you go to main menu->maintenance-> system info. (Also should tell you when u login on computer) if it says 7604 then they sent u a 4 ch one.
  9. Domestic prices aren't that bad either. Just look at it as paying for warranty. Domestic is usually 3 years while alie's warranty is nonexistent since they make you ship it back to them first...and that will be like $50 per camera just for shipping...then they ship it back to you and not sure if they charge you again for it.

    Hikvision Vs. Acti

Right now things like Firmware upgrade for cameras can only be done if you log in directly. Also many specific functions of the camera can only be triggered at the camera side The following functions are missing from NVR: formatting SD card to have edge storage WDR/noise reduction Smart IR Corridor mode/rotate having the IR off but in night mode. Alarm in/out audio level mic level/line in selection (probably many more that aren't listed) Sorry I never used Acti before...I work for a Hikvision OEM so I know their stuff pretty well.

What kind of documentation do you need? Most can be found on their Europe portal. http://www.hikvisioneurope.com/portal/ Built-in POE is OK, but hard to log into each camera to customize the settings. its one less part to worry about. and if you get it from a reliable vendor, it should have a 3 year warranty as well. Also less flexibility with Home-run vs external switches which can have more distance with POE and less cables to run.
  12. I though ADI would be more strict with customer selection since they are a corporate company! Does anyone get their Flyer and catalog regularly? I would love to read it! PM me if you have it please
  13. Largest security products distributor in the US. But I don't think they sell to end user and DIY'ers. Costco has good prices only in bundles, ADI has good prices on even 1 camera.

    reset or passowrd defullt H.264

Try : 020818 or 519070 if it lets you login just go to user acct and change your password using that as your master pw.
  15. Parts alone is anywhere from $350-$500, so he isn't marking you up much on the parts. Do you think its worth $700 to run 4 cables?
  16. The problem is those RS232 serial boards most vendors don't have it to send to the customer, usually customer will send the machine then the RMA dept will flash the firmware that way, and if it doesn't work then will replace motherboard. Its a machine by TVT by the way. Most end users/end installers will have to use USB drive, load the kernel then flash it (which should work most of the time...).
  17. Make sure you get a 8 ch NVR with 4 camera kit instead of 4 ch NVR with 4 cameras lol, the writings on specs are not that clear sometimes.
  18. ah that's right, there is no sadp in mac. you can change it in ivms 4200 for mac, it'll be under device management then on the bottom, click on Network configuration or something and you can change it then add it
  19. Costco is one of the least expensive source, even less than many distributors. I tried to do a quote for you for the same Costco package and came up at $1383.00 (not including shipping andwithout the bundle stuff like 100' cables haha (well our cameras are 3 MP instead of 1080 P ) and our cameras are actually on sale! Costco is driving small businesses out ... Well we have 3 year warranty on NVR and cameras...and we use the WD purple surveillance HD but costco has i think 2 years...Aliexpress has like no warranty unless you are willing to spend $70-80 to ship it back to get serviced and god knows how many months that will take to return it back to you. The question is are you willing to pay more for service given the quality is almost the same? You're just another number if you buy it from Costco, but you'll be a valued customer if you buy from a smaller distributor.
  20. Use SADP to change the IP of the camera to be in the same network as your network. If you pull up the command prompt window on your computer, type in ipconfig and you will get your current network, the first 3 part of IP address of the camera should match the computer's IP address for example if my computer is 192.168.1.50 my computer should be something like 192.168.1.60
  21. I would really wait until the Hikvision fisheye is proven first. Geovision and vivotek's fisheye has been out for a while and seems to have a good track record, could be your other options. And the 5mp GV fisheye is in the same price range of $500-$600. I've seen the Hikvision 3 MP fisheye...main stream on highest quality still looks like CIF or Half-D1 at best, doesn't even look like a high definition camera.
  22. Connect fail usually means your server port isn't opened.

Dahua NVR vs Hikvison NVR with Hikvision Cameras

I wouldn't mix vendors until Onvif is more stable. I have a hik OEM camera connected to an external POE with my dahua NVR. while motion detection actually works, I could not get the time to display correctly...it stays working for a while but goes nuts after a day or two. When I set the time correctly the motion detection doesn't work. They have models of Hikvision NVR with 160 Mbps if you are willing to pay for it. Look for the 77xx series or 96xx series that can support 32 ch. should be something like 7732 or 9632.

Rest H 264 DVR lost passwords

Got a model number? Or a picture of the menu on the monitor? Model numbers can be found beneath or behind the DVR.
  25. $180 one time and $75 a year is kinda bad for something that is free...just tell them you know how to do it and waive the fee.
