chachi, 360 degree camera is a bad choice for outdoor security. They will have poor night vision and very limited distance to get plates. You will need a dedicated camera for plates at night.

twit, if you are going to mix cameras and build a computer for the cameras, I can recommend Blue Iris. It is highly configurable and works with about any IP camera. Milestone has a free software for up to 8 cameras, but when I tried it, it left a big watermark in one corner of the video. For cameras, look at he Dahua starlight and Hikvision Ultra Low light cameras. Excellent night vision for the price.

Zombie, if you do a little homework, you will find out wireless is not totally reliable and will let you down. You will need a power wire to the camera(s) anyways, so you might as well run cat5/cat6 and do it right.

It could be the power supply, or it could be the low quality camera(s). The PTZ looks like the Huisun mini ptz or Imporx cameras, which have had a lot of problems. The separate power supply should reveal to you if it is the camera. If the Boogerman were here, he would tell you to send it all back.

Tinycam pro or Ipcam viewer pro by Robert Chou should be good. You would just enter in the local ip address when configuring.

farmer, in your original post you stated, I believe, that you didn't want to access the cameras from outside the network and had no need for port forwarding? Have you changed your mind? If so, the answer would be a VPN server instead of port forwarding.

If good night vision is important, check out the Dahua starlight models. They are ip cameras though, and cost a little more, but they are 2mp and give the most bang for the buck.You can do a google search for demos. And, if you care to, do a google search for advantages of ip cameras over analog cameras. Hikvision also has their ultra low light cameras and are comparable to Dahua.

You want a wireless outdoor PTZ camera? Look at this one. http://www1.dahuasecurity.com/products/sd22204t-gn-w-3771.html It meets most of your needs, sees IR lighting but doesn't have it. When you want quality ptz with wireless, you severely limit your choices. A few thoughts; 1. Wireless is not a good idea for security cameras. They will sometimes let you down right when you need it, due to interference. 2. If you mount a camera with ir lighting under the eaves, you might get ir reflection causing the camera view to look foggy at night. Mount it close to the edge to avoid thaat. 3. If mounting on a pole, make sure the pole is strong and steady. Windy conditions will drive you crazy with sway.

Dahua makes some of the cameras for Amcrest, I don't believe Amcrest makes their own cameras. I can't help you with the hybrid questions.

It does not look like it has an ir cut filter, so ir won't help. The 0.6 color and 0.5 b&w lux rating isn't good. For that kind of money you can get a PTZ with ir lighting from Dahua or Hikvision. They have about a .005 lux rating. You can find Starlight demos online. Panasonic is top quality, but expensive.

The new Amcrest ptz cameras are rebranded Dahua cameras. You will probably pay less for Dahua cameras. You may want to look at the Dahua Starlight cameras, their night vision is very good for the price.

You could 1 Close the curtain/shade on the window. 2 Mount a cheap ir light by the window pointing at the camera. This should blind the camera at night. The light can not be seen by the naked eye except for a dull red glow at the lightsource itself. Well, if I was the manufacturer and I "intended" to be able to view peoples private cameras, I would probably be able to suppress logs of my log ins and activity....this might be a bit paranoid....but again it's China so is it necessarily? Imagine if people who work for Lockheed Martin or any one of our defense contractors and they put one of these in their home which can also transmit audio..... I can all but guarantee you that while our government spies on us regularly, they probably have given ZERO thought to this. Did you even try looking? Does your router have logs?

Look to see if your camera saves logs, then you can see if anyone else has been using it.
