    PC dvr setup

There are guys who keep promoting IP system(HikVision or Dahua). Once they knew you bought them, their job is done. You can not expect any more help from them. The best one is to get help from your local installers.
  2. The DVR must have an output of CVBS TV signal for being displayed. Then connect and input the CVBS to your TV 150 meter away.

You may go for HD-TVI or HD-AHD stand alone DVR. You may use either analog cameras or HD -analog cameras, which are very cheap. If you go for IP camera system, you may check out POE and software fees for each camera.

    Cheap widescreen analog cameras

Not exactly 16:9. There are so many 960H DVRs and Cameras (960HX 480VX30FPS or 960HX576VX25FPS), all analog system.

It seems 16 Ch PCI Express, not PCI, card: May fit for your old PC and OS. Check whether it can be returned.
  6. Please be patient. Listen to topchips; Check out the manual of your DVR. Your controller is designed to communicate all cameras, probably max 256 different cameras, hooked on a twisted wire, based on RS485 or RS232 protocol. You are supposed to assign each different number for each different cameras, on the Onscreen Display menu provided by your DVR and Controller. If you can't, you have to bring in the installers in your neighborhood.

It seems not to be 16 Channels. It seems to support only 4 Channels.

    Ip camera issues

If you are confirming bad things about IP camera systems, Boogieman gets very mad against you. Be careful.

    PC dvr setup

True that PC card with analog camera systems has been depleted. But most of newer PC cards support Windows/iPhone/Android, up to 960H recording capability. But make sure you are not buying an old type that does not support remote access form internet or smart phones.

    Ip camera issues

Obviously, Boogieman is not the guy who pays USD 496 for the cheap repeater for you. You may keep posting this message till you get your problem solved.

    Ip camera issues

You do not have troubles if gone for analog systems. But please keep posting the message as there are many guys who keep promoting IP camera system might come to the rescue.

    Streaming 4K

Decoding One channel of 4K at a time could be OK with i7 PC, with any commercial Software.
  14. Ask HikVision. Or Ask Techpoint who supplies the HD-TVI receiver chip set to Hikvision.

    New Home System

It sounds that the installer might not be lying. It is him to save you in trouble, Not the guys promoting IP cameras, even for simple home applications.

    camera/electrical noise

With IP Camera System, there is a very slim chance for any noise, except IR interference at night, creeping into a video signal. If not by IR interferences, you better change your IP camera, if it must be bad even in the daytime. Why? IP cameras are supposed to send compressed bit stream. Any single bit error influenced under noise conditions does destroy the 2~3 seconds of video clips completely.

Newbie with questions and some ideas

Be wise and note that if wireless system should be that good, why bother and spending money on wiring????

    Crashing

Good explanations. But you better check with the Manufactuerer for firmware updates, or so.

Live feed disconnects every few seconds

Your Math is Correct. But the math needs be considered of "OverHead" as long as networking is employed in field, say, buffering, duplexing, multiplexing with other sources, etc. You may use substream-compressed bit stream of each camera, not main stream when you are running short of Network Bandwidth.
  20. Not easy to find the cheap and competitive chipset to be used for h.264 compression of UHD sized video (3840X 2160X30FPS). So they probably went for MJPEG compression.

    High bitrate solutions?

Thanks. I do not want to stick to my arguements. But all those recorders including Gopro's by default is to be SD Card with highly limited capacity. I agree to you that those compex video are hard to compress, starting to show compression artifacts at a certain bit rate, below. You may take quanization parameter as low as possibly the recording options allow, which would give you the best video quality.

    High bitrate solutions?

The int'l standard of H.264 is known to be the best (most efficient comrpession tool), so far. If you give more number of bits for compression, the reconstructed video quality should get better. For 1080P video of 30 FPS, bit rate of 25Mbps sounds to be more than enough. The compression rate of 30 Mbps for GoPro is also more than enough. It should not be correct Gopro's default setting to be 30Mbps. In general 10 Mbps could be considered enough for the best video quality of 1080P sized. You can play with "Quantization Parameter" that the camera setting offers as one of options. Also you can spend (waste) more bits with going for JPEG compression and by assigning more frames to be coded as Intra Coding per second.
  23. SunnyKim

    High bitrate solutions?

25 Mbits Per second For 1080P X 30 FPS? Yes, almost all IP cameras. You can also play with JPEG, options of Less Frame Rate, more Intra Picture Codings.

    Easy to use DVR/NVR?

Be noted that the systems costing more than U$10K, 10 years ago, can now cost you less than U$1K with a lot advanced features.

One DVR, Multiple Screens & DIFFERENT VIEW

Understood. But we have to understand the Money Game, behind. To enable this feature, the chip set and DVR is to be limited to 8 Channels, for instance. But the DVR makers can charge you more with 16 Channel -DVR. So, you may buy another 8 Ch DVR for plugging 8 cameras separately from other 8 cameras, if you have already 16 Ch DVR for 8 cameras.
