    Building a new house

That is overpriced.. http://www.costco.com/Swann-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-8-3MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100146087.html Same cameras, similar NVR..the cams are rebranded hikvsion 2032 includes 2tb hard drive and 3 year warranty.
  2. if you are running new ethernet it makes no sense to use encoders...just buy the hikvision 2032 for 85 on aliexpress
  3. You can convert bnc to ip using an encoder.... often it is more cost effective to either run new ethernet or use sdi/cvi/tvi cameras that can give you hd video over rj59...
  4. Snow? Sorry i couldn't resist..
  5. Look at the hikvision 2432 cube camera....POE, built in mic and speaker, SD card for recording, PIR motion sensor so less false alarms..they are 115 via aliexpress...get the 2.8mm lens if you want a wide view

    PC Based NVR Questions

This makes no sense at all, sorry...is it 8 or 64, that is a huge difference....What is your budget? There are tons of threads here about lots of different setups.. 64 camera setups are complex because of the all the writing to disks that needs to be spread out...also there is a viewing issue with respect to splitting the streams on several monitors.. Good luck
  7. Indoor? outdoor? what is your budget per camera?

    PC Based NVR Questions

I think you first need to figure out what you want..is it going to be a 4 camera install or 128? Before choosing a pc and software you need to determine what the project will be... There is no such thing as an NVR card...you dont need a card for ip cameras....that would be pointless.. Also what 5mp camera do you intend to use? do not buy some no name brand off ebay and expect it to be of any quality...also with high megapixel cams like that, nightvision is often poor....
  9. Q2U is right on... Also you calculations are all wrong... You why are you using a 145 dollar switch instead of two of the cheaper 8 ports... So you cost is 90/8 (because of the extra non poe ports you dont lose any poe) = 11.25 a camera Your way = 4.15 Difference is 7.10.... Aside from the technical problems you will have on the longer wire runs, how much is your time worth?? Standing up on the ladder splicing that connection while its cold and raining outside? This is a nonsense idea...and if you do this on a project you are being very penny wise and a pound foolish. Also, the poe switches are all metal and a solid build, not like the plastic stuff you linked to.. Why dont you bring some switches along and show it to the customer so they understand...if 7 dollars a cam is a going to make or break a contract, then you have a seriously flawed business model.....

    Building a new house

+1 on Q2U....Run ethernet for an IP system, use quality Solid copper cable, not copper clad aluminum or CCA...buy from a reputable online dealer like monoprice or cable matters ...DO NOT under any circumstances let a contractor or cctv installer convince you to run rg59. As q points out, Power over ethernet makes things super easy and a clean install. If you want a package deal with warranty and the ability to return this might be something to look at http://www.costco.com/Swann-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-4-3MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100146086.html The cameras are rebranded hikvision 2032 bullets...

    Security system for the house.

Thanks again! Question lets say I want to buy nvr that doesnt have built in poe switch any models that come to mind? Thanks in advance!! Hikvision makes several models without the poe...i am not well versed on the differences but there are several threads discussing them...you will not find them at costco though....there are various local sellers that stock them or you can look at aliexpress..
  12. you will be able to change most settings via this method...
  13. You though you had good cameras? really? this is aweful....There is nothing that can be done...Upgrade your cameras to a high quality ip system.
  14. Well i guess it depends on where you live...does it get hot in the summer? The NVR needs to be connected to the network..as long as the cameras are connected to the nvr via the poe ports (and not someplace else on the network) you would be fine hooking the NVR to use network via powerline (if you cannot get a cable from the nvr to your router/or nearest switch... The pc would connect wired to your router...now the the nvr is on the same network as the pc, you can just login to the NVR via internet explorer and view your cams.... Or use a small tablet and ip camviewer...
  15. First dont put the NVR in the attic the heat will kill it. If you dont want to run any cable then you can use an android stick pc to run ipcamviewer and display on a monitor..or use a pc with software...What NVR do you have?

    Deleting old files

Why dont you just set the drive to delete when its full....you dont have to manually delete files...

    IP cam color issues

Sometimes saving money becomes expensive (we have all leaned this the hard way, particularly in the ipcamera field).... you cannot compare fishing supplies to the camera sellers..there are a few good ones who ship quickly....
  18. Boogieman

    IP cam color issues

ali express is about two weeks...if you order a few cams they will agree to ship dhl (which is about 1 week) you can also find local us resellers of dahua or hikvision... here you go...Amazon Dahua 1.3mp two day shipping if you have prime. They are full of crap...ask them how it can be a bandwidth issue if its happening on a modern local network...to test it, lower the bandwidth settings on the camera and see if it helps..
  19. Boogieman

    IP cam color issues

When trouble shooting its important to know the exact model..some cameras are known for specific issues... Regardless, its not a bandwidth issue, looks like something is wrong with the sensor, that is a cheap dahua knockoff...return it and buy a real dahua for less on aliexpress.... How long do the colors stay like that.
  20. You cannot mix and match...while some makes claim that you can, there are often issues with motion detection etc...the solution for you is to by a kit.. http://www.costco.com/Swann-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-8-3MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100146087.html

    Camera issues about IR Leds

Of course its an issue..return it..also dont post the same question in 3 different section on the website..

    IP cam color issues

Lets start with the basics...what camera is it?????????????
  23. When you get to longer distance runs you will have issues unless you properly calculate for attenuation. This seems to be a really silly idea...first, injectors are about under 20 dollars http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-PoE150S-Gigabit-Injector-compliant/dp/B001PS9E5I/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1417098999&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=poe+inector But if you use a switch your cost per camera will be about 11 dollars http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-SF1008P-100Mbps-8-Port-802-3af/dp/B003CFATT2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1417099048&sr=1-1&keywords=poe+switch Dont forget if you used your passive poe solution you would still need a regular switch so the true cost of using a poe switch is probably 5 dollars per camera...after you buy the power supply. and parts for splicing.. Now to save 5 bux a cam, you are going to spend time splicing the cable on the camera end as well as on the switch end? How much is your time worth...also on the switch end where the cabling is visible to the customer, it will look like total crap.... Bottom line ..dont do it unless you want issues..

    Security system for the house.

The cameras are rebranded hikvision 2032..bunch of info on these...the NVR..i dont know... You can also build you own system...the 2032 is available for 85 via aliexpress...no warranty (shipping return is too expensive)...a better camera is the hikvision 2332/3332 turret...if you want a simple plug and play kit, get the costco system...you will have full warranty support and you can return it if you dont like it.. See this thread viewtopic.php?f=53&t=43543

    Security system for the house.

Lets say its not wireless how does a camera connects to dvr? Using cat5? That is what I'm looking for, cameras that connect to the nvr using cat5 Do not listen to yl_fang..that poster is a spammer probably from china...You are correct, you want to go with cat 5/6 hardwired...that system has some poor reviews...but often its user error... This is also a nice system...rebranded hikvision http://www.costco.com/Swann-8-Channel-HD-NVR-Security-System-with-2TB-HDD-and-8-3MP-HD-IP-Cameras.product.100146087.html
