  1. There is lies the paradox. Which came first the chicken or the egg. It seems that the video is getting hit since the power supply does not get zapped. BTW I typed wrongly before about the power source be 24vac. The cameras are powered by 12vdc wall warts. Thanks for the input. Les

  4. Hello, Any chance someone here has a easy or slick way to start (turn on) a PC with out the use of a human finger?? I am having an issue with power outages and the UPS can't keep the NVR up long enough, so it shuts down. Then the only way to start is by the use of a human finger. I am looking for some simple(if possible) easy or slick way to start the PC from a dead stop. Human fingers are not always plentiful or easily trainable at the site. Any thoughts would be most appreciated. Thanks, Les

    Starting PC without a finger

Never saw that in the BIOS before. Thanks for the tip I will check that out. Les BTW if it is there then "VERY SLICK" indeed.
  6. Hello all, I have a potential project to transmit video from a remote site. The desire is to have video or even snap shots sent via email if possible. The plan would be to view the pictures on a daily or every 3-5 days to determin if a constuction project is progressing as planned. There would be no power so to speak only by means of a solar/battery setup. There would be no highspeed internet on site. My questions are: 1) Is there a way to do this without a highspeed internet service?? 2) Is there a service other than "videofied.com" that does not need a Central Monitoring Service involved?? 3) Anyone here ever set up a similar system. Thanks in advance. Les

  8. Hey all, I know this has been asked before but there seems to be multiple answers so I need to ask again. What is the general rule for max cable run for RG59 coax??? My search is inconclusive. Thanks much. Les
  9. I am looking at a camera project that will involve the following. Large warehouse processing building with large cooler @ 37F degrees. I would like to use IP Cameras and would prefer that they be the same model to keep thing set up simple. The cameras would be installed both outside (North East US) and inside. A couple of the cameras would be installed in the cooler as well with a constant 37F +or- a couple of degrees. Would like 1.3 to 2 mega-pixel IP cameras. Varifocal lens 3.6-?12?mm IR maybe but so far not required. PoE would be desireable. Is there such a camera on the market that anyone would like to recommend I investigate?? Thanks in advance. Les
  10. Thanks for the responses from danger_e and Soundly. I am looking at the OpenEye 715i or 715Ai cameras that danger_e had suggested. I especially like the feature that is listed of the zoom, focus, and iris control can be done over the web interface. But I have a question concerning this feature. How effective is it. Will I have full control as if I was at the camera or are there some limitations?? If I understand the process correctly I would have included with the camera a CD with software for setup or the camera has a Web Interface built in that I would access via IE browser?? Is it true that I would not have this same control from NVR recording software?? Lastly, I did not see any notation as to how many video streams are available for multiviews?? If only one this may be a deal breaker so I really need to know the answer to this. Other than the above I believe that the camera will meet my need. I just need to convince the customer that this is the best way to go. Thanks for any additional insight. Les

    Some IR questions...

Ok, thanks. Would be very interested in knowing how it goes. If they really like the outsiide then it may become a non issue. Les

    Some IR questions...

Soundy, How did you make out with this issue. I have a very similar application. I originally had a fixed camera with IR and thought I could replace with similar that had a zoom/focus and get a little adjustment to re-focus the picture. Did NOT work. Now I am looking for a different solution. Getting rid of the the cut filter makes sense but was wondering if that is what you did, did it work or did you come up with another solution?? Thanks for any input. Les
  13. Would someone please explain the reason for and/or the best use of the memory cards that are on board certain IP cameras?? To be specific as it relates to the VIVOTEK cameras. I can't seem to find any reference other than where the slot is and what is to be put there. TIA Les
  14. Oh, and the other question is what Mfg. proves to be the best for SD-HC memory?? Kingston?? SanDisk?? Other?? Or are they all made in the same plant and just different label put on before they go out the door?? Thanks, Les
  15. Largest you can afford? Flash memory is cheap, the more the merrier! Well I guess I should have typed that myself. But really what size are you guys using?? I will make it a little easier. .... 4Gig? ........ 8Gig? ................ 16Gig? ................................ 32Gig? ................................................................ 64Gig? TIA Les
  16. Thanks to all for the good input. I see the value of SD card in most environments. However I see little value in my current application, but then maybe I am wrong. (first time this year) I know there are a lot of variables involved but what would be the minimum and maximum size SD everyone would install?? Again thanks for the input. Les
  17. Hello all, Can anyone spec what equipment and fiber would be best to use for the following project. Two buildings, roughly 1000' distance between. Would like to connect DVR with TCP/IP Ethernet 10/100 to main building with highspeed connect for remote viewing. I can see that a direct burial fiber would be needed with converters on each end. But what fiber would be recommended and what converters would be best?? or mid-range, less than best?? What challenges would I have slapping me in the face that I should prepare for?? Any other thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. TIA Les
  18. Wireless is a good thought except for the lack of line of site. There is a hill, barn, trees and maybe something else in the way. Well maybe with a couple of real tall towers it could be done. Just seems a little impractical give the terrain. Thanks for the links. I have local Graybar getting me a price on armored cable so I can ball park a price to make it happen. Wireguy, thanks for the offer, I will keep it in mind. Got to get a commitment from the customer first. Thanks for the input. Les

    Panasonic box camera??

Hello all, I have a new customer that has a couple of Panasonic WV-GP454 box cameras. The cameras have a built in menu adjustment. On the side there is 5 buttons. Up - Down - Left - Right and a Center. I figured out that the center button when held for about 3 seconds brings up the menu and I can go down and up but can't seem to select anything to make changes. I tried to hold the center button to make a choice but nothing. Anyone have the docs on this camera or know the procedure for making changes?? Please let me know if you do. TIA

Thanks for the keystrokes. I will give that a try when I am on site. Much appreciated!!!
  22. LOL I got the point. " title="Applause" />
  23. I guess I didn't look far enough. Are you referring to the ST122UTPA?? So since you are now an authorized reseller, do you get a good discount?? Thanks for the input. Very helpful.
  24. Hey all, mind if I jump in here a week late. I have a project that the customer wants to monitor just a few cameras from a remote location about 150'-175' from the PC DVR. Don't really have a need a 4 channel video extender as suggested earlier. Is there a better way to extend the vga that distance for just one additional LCD flat screen monitor?? TIA
  25. Anyone ever installed a camera/audio for Counseling Observation?? I am being asked to install a system for observation with audio for drug counseling. This is going to be used for evaluation of the counselor. No recordings will be made. Only live viewing and listening. The first request is for a covert(hidden) camera and microphone. There will be two rooms set up this way with one room for the headend equipment. Interested in suggestions on equipment for the video and the audio. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. TIA
