  1. I'm wanting to get an outdoor PTZ camera with around 10x or greater zoom on it to work with my Lorex LNR6108 NVR.  I'm considering their LNZ44P12B and am wondering if anyone here has it.  I like the color night vision, but where this camera is there will be pretty much no light at all (minus moonlight)  I don't see any IR LED's on it and see no mention of them in the description.  I'm trying to contact them but they haven't gotten back to me.

With the Cyber Monday price of 374.00 shipped, I think it's a pretty good deal.

Anyone have any input on this camera or a different one that will work for me?

  2. I have a Lorex 4K NVR (LNR6108) and I want to add a PTZ camera with a minimum 4x optical zoom.  Lorex has PTZ control on screen and in their app, but will I still be able to use the same easy controls if I use a camera not made by Lorex?

If so, does anyone have any other suggestions for a PTZ IP camera with minimum 4x optical zoom?  I know Lorex has a couple, but I'd like to see some other options if the controls are the same.

Hi. It could also give you a lot of hassle

cat5 is old and also came as cat5 cca.   Which is bad cable ......cat5e is a much better cable and most likely to be pure copper .    You also need to know existing size of the old cat5

How about cat5e CCA, is that still bad cable?  Like this stuff:

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071ZHLSV1/ref=sspa_dk_detail_1?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B071ZHLSV1&pd_rd_w=pgk90&pf_rd_p=733540df-430d-45cd-9525-21bc15b0e6cc&pd_rd_wg=vV41e&pf_rd_r=PK87R433RWHCMHC388KY&pd_rd_r=ae74085e-535b-11e9-b8ff-1749bfa13380

  4. I got a new camera system recently and already had cat5e run to most places.  I have one camera that I may want to run and there's no cable there.  It's probably going to need 100'.  I have the tools to terminate the ends if I need to, but where is a good place to buy one 100' chunk of cat5e?

Is Amazon a good place to buy something cable?

    I found this cat6:

    https://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-Ethernet-Cable-100-Feet/dp/B003RCEAB8/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=cat5e&qid=1553991818&s=gateway&sr=8-5

Often it's not the cost of the cable, but the cost or difficulty of running it.  That was why, when I did new cable installations for my employer, I always ran 25-50% more runs than the projected need.  (And, when they recently switched from a legacy phone system to IP phones, it still wasn't enough.  But they only had to add a dozen or so new runs, so not bad for a 20-year-old install with close to 500 runs ;).)

Terminating existing cable is inexpensive and trivial.  I'd terminate it, try it, and see if it worked.  If not: Then replace it with Cat5E or Cat6.

    Great idea.  Worth a shot.

  6. I come from a security system background as I installed them commercially for many years.  I get them.  You install door contacts, window contacts, motion detectors, glassbreak sensors, keypads, sirens, etc... When you leave the building, you arm it, when you get back, you disarm it.  If you get a break in while you're gone, the alarm triggers and calls whoever is monitoring it, and they call the police.

I now see that a box with a set of cameras, DVR/NVR, cables, etc... is being called a "security system."  No door contacts, window contacts etc...  I guess I get it, because now with being able to hook the DVR/NVR to the internet, when a camera sees motion, the system will basically call your phone, show you the activity, and you can decide to call the police or not.  My old camera system wasn't able to hook up the internet so I'm not use to that, but I can see why its called a "security system" now.  You can completely get rid of the monitoring center.  Great idea and great technology.

My old DVR took a dump on me and I don't have my new camera system yet.  I've picked out what I want, (Lorex 4K NVR-LNR6100 and 6 LNB8005's) but I'm going out of town for a few days and it should be here when I get back, but I have a question about my new "security system" coming in a few days...

    How do I arm it?

I have people coming and going all day long here.  My wife works from home, I'm home all day long, we have people coming over all the time, my kids come and go.  If I set the NVR to notify me every time it sees motion, I'll get notifications on my phone all day long.  Is there a way to push a button to tell the system "Hey, we're going out for dinner and a movie, nobody should be coming in for the next 4 hours, notify me if someone does." And then turn that off when we get home?  Maybe that's done through the app?

Standard nvrs yes in most cases use other cameras ... but in the Swann and lorex links you posted the cameras only work with those systems ... proprietary systems have never been good.

Install cost was not ment can you install it ...... i ment by the time you bought Costco system then the power pack and cables and bnc and camera power cable ... add an extra $200 on top of the price

that’s is because your link is analog hd

Yes was wrong ..... look at lorex storage calculator it states when set at 1080 2mp is 16 days .... 8mp is only 3

    Costco link is HD analog

link I posted which is much better and will be cheaper to install than Costco system is full ip

Thanks, I like your link much better anyways, but I would like to learn how to tell if the system is analog HD.  I couldn't find the word "anolog" anywhere in the costco link.  Did I miss it, or how can you tell?

Also how can you tell if the NVR in my link was proprietary, but the one in your link isn't?

Hi. Your link above and the Swann system these are system with features that are not needed there gimmicks

flashimg lights and siren on a camera only alerts to location of camera .. then you have to remember the cameras will not work on anything else so nvr can’t be changed or up graded

Honestly... I missed that it even had flashing lights and sirens.  I have no need for those features, but if those features are included, I don't really care.  I also didn't know that the NVR can't be changed.  I thought all NVR's were pretty much interchangeable?

your costco link ..... you are only looking at 2-3 days recording with 2tb so extra hard drive would be needed if you go on holidays .

Doesn't the NVR in your link also have a 2 Tb drive also...?  I assumed that a 2TB HDD should be fine on a 4 camera system for a few weeks, was I wrong?

Then there is your extra install costs ..... HD analog will also require a power supply and coax and camera power cable and tools for bnc fit.

Not worried about install costs.  I worked as an installer for 15 years and my house is super easy to wire, I should know... I built it.

Also, I thought the link from Costco was digital, not analog. I could be wrong...? It includes Cat5e cables...

but for a few $s more you can go full ip 8k with 6 better cameras than your link only extra cost is cat5 cable and it will run most ip cameras

The system I posted, and yours, are both 4K IP cameras aren't they?

lorex vs Swann ..... lorex (dahua ) much more features much better apps and software

I like your link, thanks for posting it.  I searched on Lorex but must have missed that one.  As far as I'm concerned, the only feature difference between my link and yours is mine has the lights and sirens, (which I don't need) and yours has 2 extra cameras (which are easily worth an extra 100.00) Correct me if I'm wrong though, aren't they both very similar 8 channel NVR's with a 2 TB HDD, and 4K IP digital cameras?

The system I had SWDVK-855804 is a DVR System.

That being said I uninstalled the whole system.. and set it up on my desk and tried to recreate the problem unsuccessfully..

I'm not quite sure what was causing it.. perhaps the wires were routed across something inducing some sort of cross talk or noise transfer.

I returned the unit for a full refund and reinstalled my 1080 system.

Also, on a side note.. I was very annoyed with the "SwannView Plus" app and discovered that the hikvision app is compatible with my existing swann system and is MUCH smoother user experience.

My mistake, for some reason I thought you got the NVR system.  Looks like it wasn't a problem with Swann then...? How was their tech support to deal with?

Hi did you also use lead kits .... they would of come with the system

they never work there not 75ohm the power conductor is too small .... on this forum lead kits have always been a problem cheap wire not coax

This unit beets the Swann in everything and is cheaper

    https://www.lorextechnology.com/hd-dvr-security-system/4k-8mp-hd-camera-home-security-system/4KMPX44-1-p

Your suggestion is a DVR though... not an NVR.  Are the Swann NVRs that bad?  Is it possible the OP just got a bad unit? @Mr. Craig what did you end up doing?  I was considering this same system.

    2. Do not use wireless. You already have cat5 installed. An 8 cam wireless system would cause problems

I must be misunderstanding then... I definitely want to go hardwired.  I "thought" I had heard that when you use an NVR it uses WIFI somehow.  I wasn't sure if it uses WIFI constantly or not.  I've never even seen an NVR.  All of my experience is with DVR's.

It looks like you thought I was wanting to use wireless cameras but I don't.  From your response, I take it that NVR's don't use WIFI constantly then, and shouldn't cause any problems with other bandwidth problems with my home WIFI correct?
