    DOA DVR?

I was looking for those specs for my 1304net. Still waiting for the Avermedia rep to reply. Can you post me a link?

    DOA DVR?

Power supply supplied with the EB1304net is 4amp. Your camera would have drawn 0.3amp leaving 0.9amp for the unit. Whoever gave you the info that 1.2amps would be enough could be to blame.

    DOA DVR?

Scruit, just to confirm what you already know. When there is no hard drive, the EB series allows full access to all functions (except recording). It's a portable, vibration proof paperweight.

mmmm. After looking at the online help for your router, you might struggle with its pissy user interface. They port forward to a device name, not an IP. If the EB1304net shows up as a device, then its easy, If not, struggle with the interface till you can find a way to type in its IP. Then look smugly at the camera and send us a pic

Router (refered too by other computers as the gateway) 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0 Computer 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1 (in gateway) EB1304net 192.168.0.3 255.255.255.0 192.168.0.1 (in gateway) SETTING UP THE EB1304NET: Grab the EB1304's remote, go to menu - network settings. Choose a port (Video port). 1304 is nice and easy to remember Then hit the right arrow once at "IP Mode" and choose "Static" Press the right arrow again to fill in the IP address. Locally you would connect to it by typing http://192.168.0.3:1304 PORT FORWARDING: To get at it from the internet, you need to tell the router where to send the request for video. So check the online help for the router and look for "Port forward" or "NAT" . Sometimes found in the Security section. There you tell it to forward any info for the DVR to port 1304 It will ask for: Protocol - TCP Port range - 1304 An IP to send the data to - 192.168.0.3 Thes instructions might help http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/BT/BTHomeHub/Echolink.htm STATIC IP: If you have a static IP then you would connect to your EB1304net by typing http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1304 (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) being your static ip DYNAMIC IP: If you have a dynamic IP the go to http://www.no-ip.com/ Create a free username and pass. Create a name for your DVR ie http://my1304.no.ip.com Download their DUC app and run it at startup on your copmuter. This will allow you to connect to the DVR without knowing your ever changing IP. Simply type http://my1304.no.ip.com:1304 in internet explorer. DNS QUESTION: Regarding the DNS question, im not 100% sure. Im dynamic IP so I disregarded it. It only allows numbers and not a DNS name If your dynamic, you could fill in the gateway IP. Then in the router (gateway) you would fill in your my1304.no.ip.com in the Dynamic DNS area. Give it a bash, its by no means easy but it is satisfying knowing you nailed it.

    Embedded Text Dvr

Some tills are running Windows in the background. If thats the case with this toshiba, then just install the viewing softwear and he can switch between the till application and the viewing application. Your in Scotland? Give me an excuse to fly home and I'll drop in.

    Embedded Text Dvr

Aye. Essentially your stealing the data that would normally be sent to the printer. At the POS terminal you can adjust what data gets sent to the printer. At the DVR you can position the data on the screen. But it also depends on the DVR being able to accommodate Text overlay. Do you already have a DVR? It can be done with Geovision and Avermedia PC card units. Additional POS hardware required. One per Terminal. With geovision units, you can use re-wired serial cables instead of additional POS hardware. If your POS terminal has something like "Till Scan" built in, and the ability to print directly to a printer, you can send the printer data down a serial cable straight to a Geovision DVR. You can also buy Serial to usb adapters, meaning you can easily accomodate 6 POS terminals. You need to discuss this with the POS terminal suppliers and your DVR supplier.

    Compression

Can someone explain this? Geovision units. Recording at 640x480 no de-interlace gives a far superior static image compared to 640x480 de-interlaced. Is it because the geovision units only show half the lines per frame?

DVR deep in network looking for access

Firstly, temporarily move the dvr near a hub or router on your property, plug it in to the network and run the softwear if need be. After testing, use a standard wireless access point connected to the DVR with an ethernet cable and move the DVR back to its original location. Also remember to assign the access point a static IP. If the DVR is ethernet enabled, it doesnt care whether the signal it gets is via a wired router or a wireless access point.

    Compression

Because most IP cameras are progressive scan, analogue cams are Interlaced. In theory, IP cameras start with double the quality before compression. .....kk, tear my theory down.
  13. MPEG compression on a 2 Mega pixel camera. Under $1000 Videos of chicks and motorbikes. Hey UKCAM, what did you buy in the end?
  15. Just off the top of my head: Modem to router to wireless router. Modem 192.168.0.1 Router in the 192.168. 1.xxx range with the gateway of the modem. Wireless Router in the 192.168. 2.xxx range with the gateway of the modem. Putting the router in the DMZ opens up the router to attack.

    Avermedia

CollinR, any comments on local recorded video quality. Im looking for which gives the sharpest individually recorded frames.
  17. Personally, I would ask them for: 1, The brandnames of the cameras. 2, Still image samples recorded by the systems they quoted, or more realistically ask to log-in to one of their existing systems with similar specifications. 3, The frames per second available to each user. As a parent subscribing to this system, I would want to know that recorded video would be available in case of an accident or crime. Confirm that those systems can record locally for 30 days (for evidence collection). The Geovision quote is capable of this if he adds a 500GB hard drive.

    Avermedia

Hey iSpyVision, in regards to locally recorded video quality, which is sharper, Geovision or Avermedia?

Pleasure. When your ready, we would love to see some sample images. It great to know what results are possible.
  21. Avermedia 1304net has those facilities and seems to be similar in price to the 760. However I cant compare image quality. All I can say is that the final image from an Avermedia is more compressed than any of the geovision range. These guys show a demo http://www.baysurveillance.com/

    Covert Camera Install

Ok. After upgrading the firmware (painless process), It all appears to work well. Those 16 screen dont reflect the start of 16 events. They are simply snapshots in time. ie, If there is one 20 second video recorded between 09.00 and 10.00 it will be split into 16 screens If there are 50 minutes of recording, it will still be split into 16 screens. Not a great solution, but it works. View your recordings with the above in mind, if your not happy then grab the "firmware" and the "firmware update SOP" (a PDF explaining the update process) http://www.avermedia.com/EN/default.aspx?TYPE=test.htm&PT=downloadD1&tv_TCAT_POS=0&CATNO0=D&IDX=2.1&CNT=1&CATNO1=D2&PID=2323N&UCN=bcb

Curious? It seems to give remote access to 16 events per hour. Best I could do was to record motion detected clips at minimum of 60 seconds each. That only guarantees 16 minutes of remote video per hour........ So whats all that about "4096 events list"? Curious. Im upgrading the firmware.
