Great questions! A SAN (Storage area network) is normally used to expand storage for cameras in large IP/CCTV systems. The NVR/Server will handle the recording and use a SAN to store the video. Most SANs consists of iSCSI and Fiber Channel Storage. iSCSI is a IP based storage networking standard which allows you to use IP networks for a transport. It is like a NAS but provides block level access. FCP (Fiber Channel Storage) allows you to connect your NVRS/Servers to SAN units via fiber. Having deployed both iSCSI and FCP for large projects I would recommend FCP as is faster and more reliable. What bitrate do you plan to stream to the decoder?

Is the current plan to try and stream 1080P video over the WAN to a decoder at your location? Any reason you can't use a RTSP stream directly from the camera or import a .AVI file directly to whatever production software you a using?

Anyone know what those are and how they differ from a software perspective (i.e. are they still running Milestone Acrus)? Police will be dispatched with Videofied as it is not your typical alarm system. Centeral station gets a video clip on the alarm event so they don't dispatch unless it is a true alarm. Video verification is very popular in the construction site monitoring.

Wow.... I haven't posted on this forum in awhile and I didn't mean to offend anyone with my post. This place apparently doesn't have thick skin any more. Finding Hikvision cameras on the internet is like looking for oxygen on planet earth they are everywhere. Most people are looking for Hik/Dahua are looking for the cheapest place to purchase them and warranty is not much of an issue with sub $100 cameras as it takes for effort to RMA them then just to buy a new one. If you are looking for low cost look at Amazon if you want support fine a local hikvision dealer and order from them. Warranty wise for Hikvision it depends on your dealer level. When we install Hikvision for customer they get a 5 year warranty but not all dealers get to offer that. Best of luck!

This is news to me... Do you have any links to the examples of h.265 clips? Right now advanced H.264 compressions from Axis and Hikvision showing better compression then h.265.

No problem and you guys have a great web presence! As for that install picture, what Ethernet cabling did you use and were any surge protectors put in place? Outdoor rated CAT5e cable and no surge protectors were used.

Remote zoom and focus cameras are quit popular at this point. The Axis camera he is talking about is 18x optical zoom which is useful for LP reads of cars over 200ft away. Having remote zoom and focus make setup much less time consuming then manual zoom and focus cameras. So its mainly useful as a setup tool then anything else.

What else do u want to know? I chatted with AVIGILON tech support and they indicated that one can record directly to a network drive w/o the use of their software. I understand this does not allow me to take full functionality of the camera but certain settings can be configured via the camera's own web GUI interface? The reason I am asking if it is possible to record w/o AVIGILON software is because I already have a very powerful server at home and do not want another dedicated CCTV monitor PC. I think your request hasn't been conveyed to support properly. You can't record to a NAS directly from the camera you CAN record to the NAS using iSCSI protocol IF your using ACC software.
