  1. Buy it from the cheapest source nearest you with the cheapest shipping.
  2. Wiring only two cameras is like "I'm only going to eat one peanut" . I would recommend buying at least 500 feet of COPPER Siamese cable. That will cost less in the long run when you add cameras. The copper is an efficient conductor which is especially helpful when using 12 volt equipment. Not to mention that you save $ when buying bulk over separate 100' lengths.

Sentient cctv backing up to USB

Did you format your backup media from the dvr port before you tried to record on it?
  4. Why do some brands of hard drives work in DVRs, and others with same spec's not work? This has been bugging me for a long time. Thanks in advance! DVRMAN

    Hard drive rejection

I have a mobile DVR. Seagate ATA Ultra does not work (Says it formatted, but it says to format next time it is turned on). Hitachi ATA Ultra works!

    Car CCTV surveillance

The I/R would probably reflect off the windows and render the image usless. The I/R would have to be outside the windows to work.

    Lockbox Recommendation

I removed the case top and drilled/bolted the chassis to the shelf. Someone would have to take the thing apart to steal it. You can usually run another drive from the unit that can be hidden also.
  8. I have a small camera at about a 45 degree angle hanging down from the top of the window frame close the side of the window where the room light is. The lens is about 1 inch from the glass, and it works well.

  10. I agree that the image is great. The on cam I/R is the only I/R that was present. There is a street light off to the left about 75 feet. Other than that, what you see is what I get.
  11. I focus all my cameras by using a length of Siamese that allows me to see my Bosch 21" monitor when I focus the camera which is on a tripod looking out an open widow. I focus at a point that is at the distance that the camera will be used. Then I mount the camera at its final destination. This has never failed to produce excellent results.
  12. Yes, I have a few 3895 cams. They are great! I think the only change the new version has is the ability to adjust their I/R output. Try tightening the focus, then adj. the zoom and vise versa. What power supply are you using? Are you running Siamese copper coax? Why don't you send a night shot to Nuvico and ask what is wrong? This camera has factory settings.
  13. They have a great image. I think you may have to tweak the focus. That is a pain to do, as the focus moves a little when you move the zoom. I get a descent image, then tighten the zoom lock enough to hold, then tweak the focus, and lock that. I focused on the mag wheel spokes on my Jeep that is roughly 40 feet away. I have the older version and the factory settings are fine.
  14. I need a choke point camera that will be mounted inside looking through a window. The view will have 850 NM I/R illumination at night (the I/R will be outside). Which technology would best fit this application ?

    Making IR cam invisible

Go to Security Cameras Direct. They sell a 950 NM cam for under $400.00.
  16. Check out the Nuvico line.

    sealing up holes.

After I posted my reply I thought about duct seal as well. We use that to seal holes on communications sites where the cables pass through the entry port, if there are extra holes or spaces. Keeps the bugs out Yup! Great stuff. If you need to remove it, you just pull it out, then stick it back in when you are finished. I bet you can paint it too.

    sealing up holes.

I use a product called Duct Seal. It is a non hardening plumber putty like substance. It seals against dust, noise, drafts, and moisture. I press it in around the conduit, or wiring and thats it. Never had a problem. It sells in one pound blocks at Home Depot. My .02

Thanks! That is what I figured.

    Autoirus DC lenses

Are these usually plug and play, or do various camera manufactures use proprietary sockets for the drive cord?
  21. Wireless would probably be useless in a machine shop environment. The high voltage, switching relays, and RF from the CNC take a toll. In the early CNC days, there were many unexplained crashes that took place in heavily populated shops, and shows. The cause turned out to be stray RF that was flying around. RF also affected com cables that were used to up/download programs to the machines. That was fixed by tying each machine to a 6 foot ground rod, and running shielded I/O cables. A hardwired CCTV system with low loss copper shielded Siamese cable will save you much grief. The camera should be rated for outdoor use so that oil vapor and general shop smog does not enter the cameras. The copper shielded video will shield the RF interference. Another note, No welding during recording!
  22. My DVR records in MPEG4 compression. It runs on embedded Linux. The files are "supposed" to be Windows cpmpatible.............NOT! Where can I find a program to enable me to open and view the files in Win XP Pro? I would also like to be able to convert the files to .AVI and other formats. Thanks in advance!
