DVR's with Detailed User Account Settings

If I understand your needs correctly, the G4 RTA ( Hikvision ) will allow set up of user rights concerning camera views and authority. User A is admin with complete access, user B can only view cams 1, 2 and 3 while user C can only view cams 4, 5 and 6 and some set up features, etc. If you are interested, please PM me and I can set up access to a demo so you can see what I am talking about. I believe it will do what you are asking. Thanks Mike

Please help! best night vis outdoor camera less than $1000

Hi Mike and Welcome to the Forum... Night cams are a funny animal. So many things effect performance. IR effectiveness is influenced by scene reflections. For example, if you were to point an IR camera at the side of a house 75' away, the chances are good that you will "see" the side of the house well BUT if you were to point that same camera into an open field with nothing to reflect off of then the results will be different. As far as the comment of no further than 50', I disagree. I generally do not make any recommendations on IR effectiveness because I am unable to visually see the area of interest to be monitored. IR is easily "absorbed" by foliage and dark colored objects. Also, I am familiar with the low lux cams that require DSS or DNR to reduce noise but create a unusable image at night with moving objects. Let's face it, isn't that what we are looking for, moving objects?? You need to find a cam that has an IR cut filter. This filter enhances night vision. As with a CCTV purchase you want to be able to demo the cam by either logging into a DVR or actually see images or video from that cam. Be careful though, some may claim it to be the camera and usually the demo is in ideal conditions. If at all possible, you may want to consider IR illuminators to supplement your camera. As I mentioned, it is very difficult to "recommend". When I am asked, I explain what I said above but will ask for images to be sent so I can see the environment. Even better is a picture actually taken from where the proposed camera will be mounted. I hope this has helped???? Thanks Mike

    Advice choosing new CCTV system/s

Good Morning and Welcome to the Forum... As you point out, there is a million DVR's on the market most of which are great DVR's and will meet your needs. I am sure most who will respond will be similar to me whereas we sell a particular DVR and swear by it. I think it will all come down to price, comfort level and most important, the ability to support the product after the sale. I would choose a DVR and then post for any feedback on that particular DVR. I would also demand a live demo where you can log in and see for yourself. In doing so, you can, at your leisure, demo the product. If someone does not offer a live demo, I would avoid him or her. Even if they do not offer a link on their site, email them and inquire. What I find interesting is that the line of DVR we carry there is not a whole lot of chatter on this forum which I believe to be a good thing. Less talk translates into fewer issues, ease of use and rock solid performance. I always look to assist those who have purchased this DVR even if they have not bought from us. But, at times, I feel like the Maytag Repairman Good luck with your search. Thanks Mike

Need help choosing an 8 channel DVR

Hi Myles, As you pointed out, the main difference is the recording frame rates... Each DVR has the ability to record in 4CIF / D1 704 x 480. The difference between each grade level is the frame rate each DVR can record at D1. The Business Economy Class RT4 will record at D1 all channels at 7.5fps or up to 30fps each channel in CIF. The Corporate Class XLA will record at D1 all channels at 7.5fps or up to 30fps each channel in CIF. The Enterprise Class RTA will record at D1 all channels at 15fps or up to 30fps each channel in CIF or 2CIF. The Advanced Enterprise Class RTA D1 will record D1 all channels at 30fps or up to 30fps each channel in CIF or 2CIF. Additionally, the RTA will hold more storage and has a few more alarm inputs. It will serve your needs very well. Really is a stable unit. With my local installs I favor this DVR or the Hikvision DVR. I have never had any issues with either. In the environment you are going to be installing this DVR and you are trying to decide between the XLA and the RTA, I would recommend the RTA simply because you can get 15fps at D1. Or, if 30fps at 2CIF resolution is OK, than go with the XLA. Thanks Mike
  5. Hi, I have used this DVR for covert applications. Small enough, no fan, quiet, easy to use, 30fps CIF all channels... http://www.shoreviewsecurityusa.com/G4_LTA4_Hikvision_Class_Digital_Video_Recorder_p/g4lta4.htm I was asked to retrofit an older brief case camera system ( tape ) for one of our local Police Departments and installed this DVR in the brief case and powered it with several 12VDC batteries. They love it!!

view images remotely from a Raysharp 6009UV HELP

I figured it was you in the menu. And I'm sure a billion people have tried to access. That's why I suggested sending a PM to me with the info. So knowing that I take back the buggy part. OK, well good luck. I have to agree with you about it being more than the cable but worth a shot. At least you can say you tried everything. If you get a chance, let us know how you make out. In the mean time, take care! Mike

view images remotely from a Raysharp 6009UV HELP

Hi Emile, I was able to get in and eventually see images. Appears to be a store and I further assume you are overseas as the time was ahead 5 hours. I had to use the 90 address in the log in. Initially once I connected I too did not see images and walked away from my PC and when I returned I had images. It seemed it took about 5 minutes to load. I disconnected and attempted to log back in and now it will not display images. I closed IE, reopened, and tried again and I was not even able to connect to the viewer. Now I was able to connect and I saw images and someone was in the main menu. I was able to capture a partial screen shot before IE crashed ( attached ). Very Very intermittent Internet connection. Can't attach images for some odd reason so I created a page http://shoreviewsecurity.com/dxclient.html Very very buggy as it crashed my IE several times. Also, Just before it crashed, the images became extremely pixelated and distorted and since then I have not been able to see any images but I can connect. Now I am connected and it has been about 10 minutes and no video. Does seem to be an issue with the DVR???????? Mike

view images remotely from a Raysharp 6009UV HELP

Hi and welcome to the forum... Almost did not respond because this is a stumper especially video after 11 ???????????? I dabbled a bit with this line of DVR and I may be able to help. I believe your unit and one that I demo'd are pretty much the same. Not sure about this but do you have the video port forwarded??? Would not explain why you get images after 11PM. Again, only assuming your Ray Sharp was the same as the Ray Sharp I demo'd. Do you have a cross over cat 5 cable?? If so, try accessing the DVR using that. At least it will tell you the DVR is OK. Or if you don't, I have accessed our DVR's using a regular cat 5 cable but had to assign an IP address to my PC ( 192.168.1.105 ). My DVR's IP address is 192.168.1.108. If you want, PM your public IP address and I'll see if I can access. Hope this has helped. Very interesting. I almost want to say a memory issue with the PC as I seem to recall such an issue but can't remember if it was with this line of DVR. That does not make sense but thought I would mention it. Deal with so many out there. Mike
  11. Hey Everyone, Need some advice here... I have a potential customer who has cat 3 already buried from one location to another and wants me to haul video over it. Now I have never hauled video over cat 3 but often over cat 5. I know cat 3 is not twisted and assume this will be an issue. Am I correct?? BTW about 300' and here's the kicker... wants to run 4 cams over this 24 pair along side telephony. Thanks Mike

    Cat 3 vs Cat 5 Cable ???????

Good point and yes, it was punched down and fanned out. OK, I feel better now knowing it has been done. Please don't misunderstand me... I just want to be sure before I bid on this as I have NEVER hauled video over cat 3. Better safe than sorry. I believe it to be a digital system so I should be OK. Thanks again!!

    Cat 3 vs Cat 5 Cable ???????

OK, maybe that's what is confusing me. From the little bit I saw it appeared untwisted. The other problem is I am going on memory as it has been about a year since I scoped this job. ( that's what happens when you get old ). The reason I am sure it is "cat 3" is because the customer said it was cat 5 and when I cross referenced the part number on the cable, it came back as cat 3. That I remember!! Customer has asked for a re-bid and my notes were not with the original bid in my file. I may have to visit the property again and take a closer look at the cable. I can say this much though, it is new construction ( 5 years ) so I would assume it to be cat 3 and not JK. Thanks again everyone for the feedback and your time Mike

    Cat 3 vs Cat 5 Cable ???????

Thanks for the prompt reply. It is NOT twisted thus my concern and was installed primarily for his phone system between buildings. Hmmmmm, let me give this some thought. I would hate to bid on this job expecting to use the cat 3 only to have a problem. May have to disclaim it to be on the safe side.
  16. Hi Barry, I just responded to your other post.
  17. Hi Barry, Depending upon the DVR, you can measure the voltage off the RS-485 Terminals. I have found it to be around 5VDC in the neutral position. May be a different voltage with your DVR though???? Hope this helps Mike

    JS XLA Series DVR

Hi Mike, The JS Series DVR does have a composite video output as well. As far as monitor output screen shots, if you were to follow this link, we have several "How To" videos that are using the actual monitor output from the DVR. We took the video out from the DVR and by using a video capture card that allows composite video in to the PC, we are able to record these videos. http://www.shoreviewsecurityusa.com/category_s/168.htm If there are any other monitor shots you would like to see, let me know. I would be happy to provide them to you. Thanks Mike

JS-8RTA DVR Backup from DVR to DVD Question

You will need to convert the files to either .avi or .wmv using the File Player. It should be on the CD that came with the unit but if you need a copy, follow this link... http://www.shoreviewsecurityusa.com/kb_results.asp?ID=3 I would strongly suggest is not converting them and include the File Player with the video on the DVD especially for law enforcement. The JS, once it burns the video to the DVD it finalizes the DVD. In other words, you will not be able to write any other data to that DVD and you will need to provide another DVD with the player. What we do in this case is transfer the files of interest to a PC via the network and burn those video files and the player on the same DVD. By doing so, who ever has the DVD will also have the player as well. I did attempt to create a video on how to accomplish the conversion but the software I use to capture my PC would not display the video in playback mode. I was attempting to show how easy it was to convert using the file player. I hope this has helped you. Thanks Mike
