  1. I see Well I haven't seen the HD output on the new units but Rory has. He can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the high res picture is only when your viewing them live so it wouldn't record at that rate and have that great picture when you played it back. The CIF does look good when your looking at it in the small framed out boxes, but when you make it full screen you will really see the difference. I personally always try to get the highest recorded resolution and as long as its at least 8fps I think thats enough. Intellicam used to carry a Hikvision card that I bought and used. I thought it was pretty good for the price and very stable on my system. It was this one http://www.hikvision-usa.com/DS-4004HCI.html but they dont seem to have updated anything lately and would probably use the Nuuo one here instead http://www.nuuo.com/product.php?id=16&sub=3 . As for the system to put it in you could spec out a Dell or I like to custom build those myself using the recommeded mobo's, processors, and ram. Good luck
  2. Does that include cameras, cables, installation, etc or just the DVR/PC. Do they have there own pc to install the card or software in or would they need that too? What type of resolution/frame rate/number of channels are required? Lots of questions to answer before someone can give an accurate price...
  3. BPZLE, has been a great help to me also on this forum and off. As a matter of fact everyone on here have been great and are professionals Thanks for your help!!
  4. SpyGuy I dont have the HD model but have owned the 4ch and the 16 channel xla. I was very happy with both units. The only issue I ever saw was the occasional misspelling of a word for the options or a compatibility issue with IE8 (fixed with using the compatibility feature of IE8). I found both of the units to be very reliable. I have since moved to IP cameras with a pc dvr. I do miss how easy the Intellicam stuff was to setup. I dont know what happened with Mike. I sent him a email and have not gotten a reply. It would be a shame if he was out of the business, he is a real standup guy and backs everything he sells (unlike a lot of other people and companies I have dealt with in this field). I'm getting ready to buy two more of them for small projects that I need a simple, quality dvr for. It appears Intellicam no longer sells to the public but Google sbcsgroup, he has good prices IMHO. Good luck, Glen BTW another great company IMO that I have recently found and like is Nuuo. They dont look like they have standalones but do carry the pc cards and the software is really good with easy setups.
  5. Can anyone recommend at 4 channel analog standalone dvr that provides at least 2 cif @ 30fps per channel that has a good iPhone interface? Has anyone ever used these? http://www.genivtechnology.com/ Thanks, Glen
  6. Thanks guys for the responses, Wireguy what 4 channel encoder would you recommend?
  7. I use this stuff http://www.vreveal.com/ the only drawback is that you need a graphics card with the Nvidia chipset. They have a free download trial and its not to expensive.
  8. I'll give the setting a tweak and let you know. My camera does the purple thing your talking about to when I reboot it. I also use the profile packs on all of them. I am using the ACM-1231, two ACM-5601's, a ACM-5611 and the TCM-5311. So I have almost all of their megapixel box cams set up around my house to play with. All have the latest firmware.
  9. What we need is a color IP bullet like that, then mount a BW Exview Bullet camera underneath it .. actually mounted to the bracket .. then using some kind of photo cell enabled switcher, switch the video signal between the 2 of them .. oh wait one is IP the other is BNC .. ok .. will need some more work but ... thats the general idea ... need a cheaper IP bullet though .. maybe the color acti indoor 1.3 camera in a custom cheap housing? Or you could just use this one that they make http://www.acti.com/product/detail/IP_Bullet_Camera/ACM-1431_ACM-1432
  10. I've tested it on several platforms... VideoInsight, LuxRiot, and currently Nuuo. All of which capture and record in the Acti's native format, no recompression. I did however recompress that BMP still in Microsoft Picture Manager so it would fit on the forum... Sounds like your problem is probably camera side config settings.... Post a pic tho... that will tell us a lot more by what you mean "crap." Here's my picture. I resized it to the exact proportions as yours. The only light is the built in IR's and a gas post light off to the right. I didnt have time to get a daytime pic, but they are as good either
  11. bpzle, What software are you using with the Acti 1231. My 1231's image looks like crap compaired to yours. I will try and post one to show you.

    Hello from Connecticut USA!

Well, if your gonna start spending $750 per camera then you might as well just build a garage onto your house and lock your cars in it That wont stop them from throwing things at your house though. Im on the train home and have some ideas, let me mull them over and get back to you later.

    Luxriot Pros/Cons?

Ok back on topic since this thread is a Luxriot Pros/Cons not Exacq I have had the Luxriot software since last summer and find it very hard to use. Here is a list of my cons/issues that I have had: -Sent a tech support issue via the link on 10/09 and never heard anything back. -Latest version is 1.7.4 but can only find 1.7.1 in the download area?? However Armen hooked me up once I called them link if anyone else has the issue- http://luxriot.com/Downloads/LuxRiot/1.7.4/26128/LuxRiot-1.7.4.exe -Web interface allows only viewing of cameras, I'm using all ACTi cams with this and the camera interface is much better, I just wish Luxriots interface showed the full res like ACTi and allowed you to zoom or take a snap shot. -Every time you remote to the server for the web access it has to download and install 3 files?? I can see it doing that the first time you connect from a new machine, but why every time with the installs? -Constantly get connection errors from cameras at random? Sometime they connect fine then sometimes I get a strange error code, then sometimes I get a code saying somethings not installed. I realize that the software is cheaper than some of the others but even at the price your paying for it shouldn't it work flawlessly? I mean is there really a point where one says unless you pay $XX amount of dollars you should expect minor issues? I don't know if it compares but I just dropped 60 bucks on a video game and it runs without issue. I can host a game on my pc and invite friends from around the world to connect without a problem and with just a click of the mouse. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say that Luxriot is totally bad, all I'm asking for is for the companies that make this type of software not to distribute it until its fully tested on all of the platforms that they say it will work on. If there is more to installing something than the install wizard covers, then put it in the wizard. Do some quality assurance testing. I know developers cost a lot, but if what they are developing isn't running correctly or doesn't meet what the customer wants (or is expecting) then you have a failed model. Again IMHO.

    recording extraction

Hello, you could (if the dvr accepts it) hook a external USB DVD burner to the usb port and burn it off that way. i know that several DVR's that I have owned had that capability. Or what I would do since you already have the drive out is use a drive imager to copy the entire drive to another drive, then use the copy to put back into the dvr to try export everything through the USB port. Here is a good free one that I use all the time http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm They also make excellent hard disk recovery software for an affordable price. Hope that helps.
  15. Dont know, never really looked at that. The server it goes to allows 300gb of storage and I have it on a ring buffer (FIFO). Last a couple of weeks before it starts to overwrite.
  16. Well, I was talking about my residence. There I have 6 cameras and back them all up to an FTP server at another location. But you are correct, those camera locations would suffice for FTP only.
  17. ohhh, I see, makes sense when you put it that way. Thanks for the clarification.
  18. ???How come my link was removed? Do they not pay for advertisements anymore? Last time I checked his ad was flashing up there so I'm guessing he pays for advertising. I thought the rule was if someone pays to advertise it was ok to advertise
  19. Personally I prefer FTP backups. Keeps the evidence at an alternate location
  20. I have used several of the G4's and swear by them. [edit by mod-link removed]

This is a very good deal from Newegg, lots of stuff for $358 just passing it on http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.274864&nm_mc=AFC-TechBargains&nm_mc=AFC-TechBargains&cm_mmc=AFC-TechBargains-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA This Intel Atom N330 Zotac motherboard bundle includes: ZOTAC IONITX-D-E Mini ITX mother Board + Intel Atom N330 Dual Core 1.6 GHz 441 with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Onboard GPU APEX MI-008 Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case w/ 250W Power Supply Seagate Barracuda LP ST31000520AS 1TB 5900RPM/32MB Sata Internal Hard Drive Patriot Viper 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 Dual Channel Memory LITE-ON iHAS-324-98 24X DVD-Burner
  22. It still may record at 30FPS per channel but I doubt it will do that at the 720x480 res, it probably drops it down to CIF 352 × 288. Check it out and lets see.

Hows about this one http://www.logicsupply.com/products/te_1160 You can even get it with the ZOTAC board installed already.
  24. "pretty sweet" huh? Well, it may be, but for that price I bet (from the specs) "•Recording Rate-720X480 pixels at 30 FPS" does not mean that it does that for every channel. What is the recording res and max frames for each channel? By the way "•Real time 8 channel DVR, 30FPS per camera, 240FPS total capability" listed under features is the viewing resolution, not the recording (I'm assuming) I have found that sites that sell DVR's and conveniently leave out this pertinent info or massage it like above, do that for a reason to confuse the novice shopper.

You probably already know this but I just wanted to point out that that is a flex ATX format board and measures 9" x 7.5" making it larger than the mini and micro atx boards that measure 6.7 x 6.7 inches. So make sure your enclosure will fit it
