  1. Hi all,

Im having strange intermittent problem with 2 cameras: its in shop, 2 cameras far apart run on cat5 with baluns to DVR.

Once premises lights go off typically after 18.00 - cameras start to show bad interference, during 18.00 - 09.00 hours it will show good pictures again for short time and then by 09.00 its bad again, lights gets switch on just after 09.00am and cameras start to show good pictures. I think the point im making is the pictures goes bad only when light is reduced.

Is there anything i need adjust on cameras? I also suspect problem with baluns?

Sounds like CNB cameras but since you never mentioned which camera models one can only guess.

    Any info would be great!

    Thanks

  2. Exacq uses the annual upgrade fee is not required on a fully functioning system to keep it running every year. But you must pay the 25 annually if want to continue getting our updates which includes feature enhancements and new camera support. If you decide not go with paying the annual upgrade and you want to add more cameras you must select a camera that is supported on the revision of Exacq you currently have installed after which you could purchase a license to cover the additional camera.

This works ok for the first year or so until that really cool camera comes along that you want to add and then you contact exacq to find out that the annual has not not been paid and you would owe 2,3 or 4 years of back upgrade fees in order to add it in. LOL!

The way they work the annual can be confusing. I don't fully understand it either and I have hundreds of licenses sold. I have one customer who pays the annual because they only have 8 cameras but my other customers who have up to 40 cameras refuse to pay it.

So if I understand it correctly let's do some simple math for someone who wants to add 1 camera currently unsupported to there 4 year old exacq (lol were they even around 4 years ago!). Scenario.....hi Mr or Mrs customer yes you can add this new camera to your existing 8 camera system that does not support the new model. Let's see......8 x $25 = $200 and we need to multiply that for the past 3 unpaid annual fees (first year is free upgrades!) so 3 x $200 = $600 + $150 so your new camera license will just cost you $750. Skip a few restaurants in the next few months and you could easily add that camera in there

  3. I have a Vivotek 8332 running with Avigilon and Avigilon don't p,ay nicely with it.

And it's not on the list either.

    http://avigilon.com/downloads/acc4/ACC-Support-Devices-4.10.0.48.pdf

I realize that. The post was just to point out that just because a camera states ONVIF compliant it doesn't mean that it will work flawlessly. Vivotek has an ONVIF compliant firmware that you must choose when upgrading the camera. I'm not sure what version of ONVIF it is. I'll take a look on Tuesday.

  4. Need a lot more info than this in order to offer up opinions here.

Each is different in there own way. I've installed a lot of NUUO (not Titan specifically) and I stopped by to see the Titan at ISC. I've installed a lot of Exacq as well.

What cameras are you using? How does the customer plan on using the system? What kind of cross platform functionality do they need (MAC OS, PC, iPhone, Blackberry, Android etc....). Do they plan a remote client/server or localized client/server?

Do you want to have less support questions, installation simplicity, bandwidth conservation, simple customer training then blow your customer away with Avigilon. Did I just say that.........

  5. Excellent show!!

Sitting here at the airport, disappointed that I had to take my jacket out since the temps are currently in the 20's back home.

Paid $33 per night at the Riviera and it was close enough to walk to everything. The hotel rate at least helps to make up for the crazy airline ticket price PLUS $25 baggage fee.

  6. I stopped at a gas station in eastern New Brunswick today and noticed 8 cameras on the store and when I looked up at the canopy I noticed another 8 cameras in enclosures all mounted upside down! Not as bad as Soundy's photos where the upside down enclosure was fully exposed to the elements; at least these are under the canopy. Still wonder if blowing snow, rain and other stuff still get inside those enclosures...

  7. Why is it as a business owner and installer that I feel like a guinea pig for these big camera companies? I run into so many money losing issues I wonder why I keep doing this at times!

Then you call and they say it's you until you spend more time feeding back the info until they say "OH YA!" we'll send you a new one or a new lens or a new this or that. You keep installing them and keep running into the same crap!

Got issues with Vivotek with IR Reflection. Just did another install yesterday and the same issues...I got a number of new lenses from them to replace the 10 or so cameras I have with this issue. Where's my free camera or my pay check to fix their crap.

    Signed the frustrated one!

  8. I see nothing wrong with that video as well. For such a wide shot I wouldn't complain about that.

The video skip happens again 12:00:19. Notice the time when this happens, it skips forward a second or two. Not sure, what's causing it but tomcctv could be right. I've seen anomalies like this before and never really bothered to bang my head against the wall over it.

  9. I missed this one....I'd like to know where enterprise was mentioned in your original statement. So my reply had everything to do with your statement but now that you added enterprise in your rebuttal then I guess my statement would be incorrect.

Water under the bridge. Either way I am not a fan of ONSII so I could care less anymore what it works with lol.

Note that I said "Basic" also. Home server and Small Business Server are not even considered real server platforms.

So as I said 2008 is the current version. I don't have a dog in this fight but you were criticizing ONSSI for not supporting any server version newer than 08 when that is in fact the current version.

LOL! Whatever! Doesn't change my opinion about ONSII

  10. Everything was working ok and I replaced the cables with better ones. Also went from 12 to 24 volt on a 25 foot run. In the daytime everything looked fine in the evening everything is out of focus. Both of the CNB carmas are doing this. The cheap-o camera stay in focus.

I've replaced probably a half dozen of these that did the same thing. I got so fed up with this model that I don't sell them anymore. I've been installing arm electronics and haven't had the frustrations. I've called CNB a number of times and it's always the same thing "we've never seen this before" and then I cough b&//$-:t. I can't be the only one and now I see I'm not.

The transition between color and b&w is horrible. During the transition the focus will start to shift and you can see it happening. I have no way of correcting this and it happens a lot. I can repeat it with a 100w bulb on a dimmer in a room. Turn it down slowly and you can see the shift occurring.

  11. Reverse Michaels question - what does Avigilon do that no other VMS does?

Ohhhhh boy now you've started something

In terms of the list I'm sure AK could come up with I think we may find what the character limit is here and then again we may just need a very large shovel.

Either way I'm standing on the sidelines waiting and watching how this one will go!

  12. This is a european company with a large product offereing. I just checked pricing for a 2 unit apartment entry system, either audio only or video. It was VERY inexpensive versus Aiphone or even Pacific Electronics in the residential intercom market.

I installed a two monitor single door system for a pharmacy. I have an sdcard installed and every push of the doorbell results in a snapshot. Customer loves the system. I just installed an aiphone system for a school and it came at a considerable cost increase over comelit. The two systems were really the same caliber system in this situation.

  13. FYI the current version for Microsoft Server is 2008.

Historically Server doesnt change that often.

    It was NT, 2000, 2003, now 2008.

Been released for a while now man. They got a home server 2011 that was released in March 2011 and they have a small business server 2011 as well.

    I will say it again.

The current version of Windows Server for Enterprise and basic is 2008.

What does Home server and Small business have to do with that statement?

I missed this one....I'd like to know where enterprise was mentioned in your original statement. So my reply had everything to do with your statement but now that you added enterprise in your rebuttal then I guess my statement would be incorrect.

  14. So it contradicts port forwarding, but doesn't work w/o it ? I'm confused lol

DMZ opens the ip selected for DMZ to the world and everything coming in through your router is sent to your DVR. Doing this negates having a NAT firewall for that IP but it fixes your troublesome port issue.

Remove your port forwarded references to your DVR but leave the dmz enabled. You will see that you can still connect without the port forwarding defined.

What this is telling you is that you are missing a required port in the port foward definition. All you should really have to mess with in your router is the virtual server part. Make sure you got all three of those ports defined and pointed to your DVR. When in doubt use both UDP and TCP protocols.
