  1. Anyone know of any decent 'track camera' style outdoor housings I can use with a Panasonic WV-CP484 cam?
  2. Oh it is you...hehe, do you have msn or yahoo msgr? I have some questions about this unit lol.. Sorry, I don't use IM's at all. What questions? It would be best to ask them in the Forums here. I don't know much about the WJ-HD316A.
  3. Seen it and bid earlier. No reserve?? Cool.
  4. IIRC, there was a link here somewhere that had more up2date firmware than other Aver sites. Anyone still have that link? I can't seem to find it. Also, anyone try the new SATA series EB1304 NET? Any difference other than IDE vs SATA? Tx ETA. I just connected the EB1304 to an ext VGA monitor and the menu system of the DVR was ten times clearer than the Panasonic CRT monitor. As for the actual video quality between the two, I could not notice much difference.
  5. Given the two options, which would you choose for home use? Aside from having more HD space (incl. the Extension Unit option), lack of HD fans in the WJ-HD500A, what other pros/cons are there? Do they both use the same internal software, incl. the built-in web server? Smart-recording on both? Can allocate ~ 30fps for any one cam on motion for example Also, what does the 'A' represent on the WJ-HD500? I have seen a 'B' version, and also a 'BV' version I believe. When they both first came out, which one was first? I see they are still offering the WJ-HD220, so that must say something about it. Thx for any info.
  6. Thanks. With no Hard Drive in the HD220, it does not reboot at all... it just beeps every few seconds or so with a solid red ERROR light. I am assuming this is the way it is supposed to act when no HD is present. It only reboots when there is a HD connected. One thing I do not like about the HD500 so far though... it only detected around 130GB or so of this 320GB Seagate HD. I did manage to do a firmware update to v2.54. At they very worst, I still have my EB13404NET Avermedia + WJ-MP204C Data Mux. I still would like a 316 or similar in the future, just not enough funds right now.
  7. Thanks for the tips. I tried moving HD jumpers around, 1 x HD connected, 2 x HD's connected, tried another IDE cable... no difference. I even tried for the hell of it wiring the molex connector from a running PC to the HD... no change at all. It does the same thing... HDD CHECK, SYSTEM CHECK screen, then goes to the DISK MENU (it says ADD beside NO. 1 and NO. 2 so it seems to know they are there fine). It then beeps every second, the ERROR light blinks green, and then it reboots automatically at the same time every time. With no HD connected though, it does the same as before... right after HDD CHECK, ERROR light lights solid red, beeps every second, and keeps doing that indefinitely, and does not reboot. Seems odd if it the drives/jumpers at this point, but I will try some more. The 2 older drives are Maxtor 120 and 160GB (from the HD500), and the other I purchased recently (Seagate 320GB). No jumpers were on the Seagate. The HD500 seems to work fine though, but it filthy as hell and looks like rust in spots...and I can definitely understand the heating issue with HD's in the HD500's - need to place in an dedicated A/C room or something. I may end up just using this AverMedia EB1304NET instead.
  8. Thx. Looks like this HD220 is not working anyway. It keeps rebooting shortly after the System Check screen after putting a HD in. I have tried 3 diff HD's 5400 and 7200RPM. If I put no HD in, it just beeps with the red err light. Oh well. ETA: Actually, they are all 7200rpm. Would not using 5400rpm HD's cause this reboot issue?
  9. What are some of the best lenses for a Panasonic WV-CP484 cam? What about the Panasonic lens floating around in sample pics? Thx

    Panasonic WJ-HD220

I had to order directly from Panasonic for the hard drive wire assembly, along with the screws and related. It was so ridiculously expensive since those screws and such seem like basic parts you get for free with a computer motherboard or something, but oh well. Hopefully, it actually includes the molex to main board pwr connector for the hard drive that I really need.
  11. Anyone used one of these DVR's before? Pros/Cons... other than the limited video extraction, JPG, 30fps ? I have a used one for testing (have not tried it yet) and debating whether or not to use it or my AverMedia EB1304NET for a home system. I am kind of a Panasonic addict it seems, so my current system (not installed yet) comprises of all Panasonic stuff so far (other than the EB1304NET)... WV-CM1780 Monitor, WJ-MP204C Data Mux, WV-CU360C System Controller, and WV-CW474AS / WV-CW484S dome cams. All of this is stuff is used however, since it too expensive for me new. ETA: Where do I find a power cord to connect to the HD? There is a small 4-pin connector on the main board, and I am assuming it adapts to a molex connector on the opposite end. Thx.

    Panasonic WJ-HD220

Thanks for the reply. I have a MP204C Data Mux (and CU360C), but not needing it for inputs 1-4 is a bonus. Any ideas on the power cable for the hard drive? It seems to be completely missing. The 4-pin connectors on the main board are flat I believe, I would need to look again. Have anything like that laying around by chance? It looks like the entire add-on hard drive bracket was removed also. Thx.
  13. No we don't give a **** for fuck sake.

    PTZ camera which connector ?

Not sure what the question is, but I am starting a Panasonic system for personal use and the 'control signal' is 'up the coax'... but I had to get a Panasonic System Controller (WV-CU360C) and a 4-port Data Multiplexer (WJ-MP204C) to be able to do that and access the Panasonic camera menu system (I do not have a Panasonic PTZ camera yet though). Otherwise, you need a Panasonic DVR which eliminates the Data MUX. The connector looks like a phone jack and Panasonic calls the setup PS-DATA. I am pretty sure Pelco does similar. Who are the other one(s)?

    Bnc Vs. Vga LCD Input.

Sorry, but I have to ask the OP... is that some kind of new browser feature that CAPS the 1st char, or did you actually spend the time doing a SHIFT+KEY on each word?

    Alien in my driveway?

That is definitely an alien! War of the Worlds. I caught an angel on cam once... raw snapshot from a GeoVision setup.
  18. We used Norton long ago... now only Sophos all around. Personally, I do NOT like the idea of having a PC based DVR with a Public IP address (which means it is accessible to the Internet and not on a local private LAN only - or a local private IP which translates to a Public IP using NAT or whatever) w/o virus protection of some sort.

  20. Yes, however you will need to be using a Panasonic DVR for this to work. The CP480 series cameras in both the box and dome style are always going to be your best case scenario but also the most expensive. We try to push those to all of our clients but sometimes budget just doesn't allow. I have a WV-CU360C System Controller and a WJ-MP204C Data Multiplexer using PS-DATA. Will that combo work? It seems to adjust the iris, digital zoom, and change other settings up-the-coax in a WV-CW474AS dome cam fine.
  21. The WV-CP484 has the ability to have the focus fine tuned manually up-the-coax? Nice. Same for the WV-CW484?
  22. I setup a basic Linux server w/dedicated phone line in our office to have remote dial-up if needed. Used a decent modem (US Robotics). Something like that comes to mind for a remote DVR setup. Only prob I had with this setup... I received spam faxes all the time! They would save on the Linux server is some format that needed to be converted. I have thought of trying myself actually... hiding a small Linux server in the cottage somewhere with a UPS (vented of course), and dial-in occasionally. And since Linux rarely crashes like Windowz, it is not a big issue. Think of it as a co-located server. Dial-in and use SSH/SFTP to transfer imgs. Not sure if that is a solution in this case though. Would need a Linux based DVR card obviously.

    Auto-Focus Lenses

Thanks for the software link. I don't think that is what I need though, as I already have the Panasonic system controller keyboard (WV-CU360C) and Data MUX (WJ-MP204C). The combo above allows PTZ control and access to the Panasonic cam setup menus via PS-DATA / 'up the coax' w/o using the small menu buttons on the cam itself. I can already control (open/close) the iris and use the Electronic Zoom on this Panasonic WV-CW474AS dome cam for example. What I want to be able to do is manually focus the lens remotely (not via the web however - remotely as 'in the house' 40ft away), and zoom if possible... using the WV-CU360C controller. I also want the option to press the auto-focus button(s) on the WV-CU360C controller. The cam will prob be as mentioned... a fixed Panasonic WV-CP484. All I need is an auto-focus lens? Panasonic lens? Thx.

    Auto-Focus Lenses

New to this area... but was wondering (short of getting an actual PTZ) if I can use my Panasonic WV-CU360C system controller to change focus settings (has 'near/far' and 'auto' focus options) on a lens with say a Panasonic WV-CP484 cam? If so, what lens(es) should I be looking at? I hate manually focusing outside with no monitor or any other tools at present. Reminds me of adjusting a Satellite TV connection by myself going back and forth a dozen times. I also noticed the 360C (along w/Panasonic WJ-MP204C Data MUX) can change the iris setting in this Panasonic WV-CW474AS dome cam I currently have, as well as Electronic Zoom among other things via PS-DATA ('up the coax' or whatever the term is). Kinda neat.
