most NVRs have a relay block for contacts either to start recording on alarm from another device like a security system or trigger another device when motion is seen on the camera.

It will be better to find a NVR with just the two ethernet ports and no POE. We installed one last summer that was 32 cameras and we ended up with 3 or 4 POE switches in different locations. IF you are not tied to the POE on your NVR you are much more flexible as far as location is concerned. I think HIkvision makes a 32 channel with with 2 ethernet ports and no POE. A quick serarch should find any number or reasonably priced poe switches.

First thing is get a NVR with two ethernet ports one to connect to the lan and one to connect to your cameras use POE switches and do not worry about on board POE for this project. your cameras will be on their own network for instance use 10.1.5.7 for a camera and use whatever IP address the IT person gives you for the lan this lets the NVR act like a router and keeps camera traffic off the LAn. You will have to figure out you camera network to place your POE switches so you manitanin the proper distance for POE and ethernet.

yes we went to a two piece plug and it cuts down on the miswires. you should still wire map all homemade connections. Even for the homeowner I think a cheap wiremapper is a must have. I have seen them for as low as 10.00.

you just have to be up front with the customer. either they provide an outlet or you will hire a licensed electrican to provide one. The problem is that often in apartment complexes their is not a seperate electrical service for things like security lights etc so you are faced with that issue as well.

i purchased two avtech cameras a couple of years ago and got zero support are they even in business anymore?

lets say your camera is at internal IP address 10.10.10.45 you would log in to your router and port foward that address. In order to view the camera from outside you would enter the routers external IP for instance 56.23.110.12. this is a very basic explaination . look at your router manual on port fowarding or go to google to get a much better discription. This website also has info on port fowarding.

your best bet is to try and get a job with a cctv contractor and then you will get some idea how to do these things.

I am not familiar with that camera but if has a slot for a chip you can just record to the chip and access it over your network. You would only get a few days video but there would be no need for a NVR. If you have an incident you can download to a PC and not have to physically remove the chip. Cost of camera should be well under 400.00

good quality solid copper cable cat5E or 6. cable tester to make sure your wire map is correct. Usually B in my part of the world. Good quality termination tool if using plugs. We usually do data jacks with a box along with a patch cord. the nice thing about this system is that if you have to move a camera you can often get by with just changing out the patch cord if you stay within the 100 meter limit.

I have been looking at this type of system and one thought was going with a heavy enough mast so you could put, along with a PTZ camera possibly LED lights or network access points. Generator seems like a must. If you get a long assigmentt you do not want to have to run the truck engine to charge batteries. I would also consider an enclosed trailer. Don't forget to pack the drone.

just looked on line and found a couple of units that will go 394 feet for between 90-150 dollars They are using cat 6 cable

are you talking about a camera that transmits its video via fiber optic like a medical camera? I would thaink that expanding the network via fiber would be a cheaper solution. Media converters and power sources are not that expensive and you would have the flexibility to use one of the many IP cameras avaliable.

can you use a AHD camera instead of aN Ip camera if you could do that you could use baluns on your cat 5 portion and use the 19 ga the same way not sure but if you could PM me with a sketch maybe something could be figured out.

I would look at an ethernet extender that would allow you to use one length of cable for the entire distance their are some extenders useing coax that would allow this. I found a ethernet extender over coax for distances up to 700 meters for 89.00 this device will not pass POE but you can find converters that do. If you have power avaliable at the camera end you could even use a poe injector near the camera location.

you may want to look into survalliance grade harddrives the smaller ones are pretty cheap. A used or older harddrive may not be a great choice

Whatever system you choose do your research on LPR technology. There are a lot of post on these forums and of course on other sites. It usually requires special software and a camera specific to the task.

fish the wall if possible I just got a walabot which does a very good job of locating studs, wires and pipes and is only around 80.00 worth it to not deface the wall.

are you putting in the password when you change the IP address ? If it connects you should be able to put in the proper IP for your network. If I remember you just enter a password no user name to change IP default should work if you have done a reset.

can you remove the card and put it into a pc with a card reader and then copy and paste..

I think you are better with a NVR and or software that matches the camera mfg. I have found if I can keep the same mfg all the way through issues are easier to deal with and if you buy from the same supplier tech support is more seamless. As far as seperate POE switch opposed to POE on a NVR I kind of like the switch idea because the location of the NVR is not always the best place for all the data lines to terminate. You may want to run the data to a closet and the NVR may be in somebody's office on the other side of the facility for example.

in most cases no you should be able to access them via a web browser. some brands may require a license to use a particlular software with the camera. axis and milestone come to mind.

I would check the power at the camera and try running a short bnc patch cord and power wires to the camera and see what kind of picture you are getting running power through size 24 wire(cat5) vs 18 gauge stranded copper is bound to cause more voltage drop than the 18ga which is a common power wire size. also if running CCA the voltage drop could be worse/ if you have followed this forum you will note that CCA is never reccommended and may be against code in some areas
