Thank you for the kind words for my wife during her injury.

She was frying food. She was interupted, and had to go, and take care of one of the kids. She took the pan with the oil off of the burner, and set it to the side on another burner.

When she came back flames were all the way up to the stove top vent. She was standing there in disbelief. The first thought was to grab the lid to the pans, but they were in the dishwasher, and it was running, and cleaning a load. The fire extinguisher was out of the immeadiate reach, and the fire was out of control. She made a "command decision" to grab the pan, and take 4 steps, and toss the pan outside. She first told the children to get outside of the house, and then she came back in, and grabbed the pan, and carried it out the door. She came back inside, and found the smoke detector, and reset it. She then went around, and opened all of the doors, and window to let the smell of smoke out.

After everything settled down she came to the realization that she burned herself. She gave me a call to see where I was. I was about half way home from an hour's drive where I was installing cameras for an Italian restaurant.

It turns out she had finished using the other burner, on a high heat, and she sat the frying pan with oil on to very hot burner thinking that it was a burner that was off.

I asked her over the phone "is it red like a sunburn"? She said yes with a little black. That did not sound so bad. Her voice is what gave a way that she was "calling for the calvary". She called her sister, and her father who could get there faster then I could. I finally arrived, and she is chain smoking cigarettes, and pacing back, and forth.

She said that she did not want to go to the hospital! I told her let's go anyways.

She started cracking jokes that dinner went from fried food to a Bar B Que!

I knew she was going to be ok after that wise crack!

At the hospital is where her wound started to look really bad. As time went by it got worse, and worse.

On the ride to the hospital I asked her what does the pain feel like. She turned to me, and gave the "your are dumb" look, and she gave me a common statement that people use to describe pain, and she says "it feels like fire"! I cracked up, and said no. I want to be able to describe to the doctor what it feels like. She could not describe it the way she wanted. I took her clues, and I said does it feel like when your arm falls asleep. She say yes! Just like that, but a thousand times worse!

Her nerves ending were "asleep" but they woke up two days later "screaming". She said that it was very painful!

She has been "beating" herself up about the whole thing. She is playing "monday quarterback" to a sunday game trying to think of all of the things she could have done to put the fire out. She did not think about grabbing another frying pan, and setting it on top of the one that was on fire to try and put the fire out. I had not thought of that. That was a good one!

I sent some of pictures to friends, and relatives, and they forwarded it on to others.

She was cracking up about all of the attention. She said "what? Am I becoming an internet sensation all of a sudden"? I told her I was going to make a video, and post it to YouTube. The look that she gave me made me think better of that idea!

The hardest part of all is just cleaning it everyday, and rebandageing it back up. The skin is really sensitive right now.

I wish I could have seen a picture of my face the first time we took the bandage off on the third day, and seen all of those huge "water" blisters!

Yikes!

While I have never been burned that bad, I have been burned badly. That silvidine or silverdine medication is NOT cheap.

Although, it is a miracle ointment drug. I was supposed to have scarring due to my blisters, but that stuff really healed the burn and helped regrow the skin so no scarring was evident.

Dude, I wish you the best of luck. Hopefully they gave her some good pain killers to go with it. Keep it clean, and slathered in that silverdine and all should be well in no time.

Good luck man.

Thank you very much!

Everytime I put it on I feel like I am "decorating" a cake!

Maybe I should get a squeeze bag, and put floral rosettes on it too!

Maybe spell out "get well soon"! LOL!

Scorpion, all the best to your wife and a speedy recovery. I was involved in a tunnel fire on the job many years ago and most important is a constant eye out for infection, the strength your wifes immune system if not compromised from any other medical conditions will also play a important role in healing. Be wary of using creams unless specified from the doctors treating the wounds. Hopefully you can consult with a burn specialist. Here is a interesting read on SSD. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/10/081007192447.htm regards

Oh man, I just saw this... I'm sorry to hear that happen, but I can see the healing is coming along just fine. (what do I know, I ain't a doctor! LoL but it looks much, much better)

I have burned my fingers like that, but yikes, the whole arm is a lot of burn. Did they tell you what percentage of cover that is? You know how they list burns like 10% or 20% of the body, or whatever.

Are they able to manage the pain effectively? I don't really remember the pain from my small burns, but I imagine the pain from a burn on her whole arm must really get her attention.

When it comes to pain Iam a big sissy. I would have been popping pain killers from sun rise to sun set!!

My wife's tolerence is unbelievable!

The biggest problem that I saw with the prescriptions is that the pain killers would only last about 5 days.

This means that we would have to have another doctors visit, and another $150.00 just to get pain medicine. I do not know why they could not give her a prescription that was auto refill. In these days, and times I understand why due to pill abuse ect.

It was not till later that I realized that my wife was not taking the pain relievers so that she would have them longer. She would not take them during the day as she would only take them at night so that she could sleep.

What really pissed me off was that we needed a prescription for Silverdyne. This is not a narcotic, or anything. A tube would last about two days, and then we would have to see the doctor again to get another prescription. This should have been an auto refill. I am not going to pay $150 bucks just so I can buy a $15.00 tube of silverdyne.

We are self insured so that is no fun.

I at least get the satisfaction that I am makeing a Porshe payment. It is not mine, but at least I can say I pay for one!! LOL! Maybe I am putting the doctors kids through college too!!

Great! I am going in the hole, and my doctor is probably paying for a headlight upgrade for his mistress if you know what I mean! LOL!

My wife is doing great! How can I tell? I get to slack off on doing laundry, dishes, cooking, and picking up the kids toys off the floor! Yay! I am glad things are finally getting back to normal!!

Thanks for the thought! We appreciate it!

Well, thank you RickA! I think? Hey! Watcha tryin to say?

Her arm is healed up pretty good now. She has a small wound on the top of her hand about the size of a quarter. From elbow to wrist it looks very good. There is some very mild scarring, but over time I think most will disappear.

It is time for me to go on strike as the house husband !

She is doing great!

She now has a scab about the size of a nickel on top of her hand. All we need now is a 2X2, and a one strip of tape.

Thanks!
