remote veiwing of cameras using dvr system

new to forum just started out into cctv , i have been asked to install a dvr with 6 cameras into a commercial premises and the customer wants to remotley access cameras from home . what will ineed at the commercial premises to be able to access from his home i.e router internet account etc or can i directly tap into phone line using asdl adapter .

It depends on a lot of things first of all.

 

I would imagine this company would have a modem, and they probably have this plugged in to a router.

 

You would run a cat 5 wire from the DVR to the router.

 

You would go to a computer, and you would do an ipconfig (google it), and you would right down all the info on to a piece of paper.

 

You would then go to www.ipchicken.com and get the internet address of this business.

 

The DVR uses some kind of port number. It will be in a default number, and you can change it if you want. Sometimes it is better to get it off of the default number of 80.

 

You then need to go to the gateway address that you got from the ipconfig such as 192.168.1.1

 

The gateway will take you to the "inside" of the router. From here you can select pages for portforward, or it might be marked as gaming, and applications.

 

You need to tell it what ip address you gavet the DVR, and what port it will be using.

 

The router will allow someone to remote view in once you have "opened" the port number.

 

The ip chicken will give you the ip address. You would use your own laptop computer with an air card to test your setup. Go to that number and you should connect to the DVR. You might have to set up an active X on the computer.

 

Once you can see video on the local computer then you are good. Once you can see video remotely then you are good.

 

DHCP ip address can change without warning. The number that you are using will not work one day. You will have to go to that business, and do another ipchicken to see what the new ip address is.

 

To avoid changing numbers you can use a service called www.dyndns.org

 

You will set up an account there, and you will log in there to see your video. They will help you keep track of changing numbers.

 

Another way is to get a static ip which means it never changes. In a residence they will have to upgrade to commercial, or business class. Some people do not want to pay an extra $40.00 month for a static ip so the dns service may be the best option for them.

 

Businesses all ready have a commercial account. It may be as simple of calling the IP provider, and asking for static IP address. This can get complicated in setting up the modem. You will need to research how to do this.

Yes they will have to get the internet account set up. If they plan on using a computer for business, and the DVR, then they will have to buy a router also.

 

Cable internet may be a better option, but that would depend on your area, and I will leave it up to you to find out what is best for your area.

 

If they are doing fiber optic then go with that company which is probably a telephone company.

 

For those of you out there reading this you can also get a special router. It uses an air card from one of the cell phone providers. This might be a good way for a more rural area that has cell phone, but they may not have cable, or telephone internet.

Yeah, one thing to keep in mind, you really need high-speed, broadband internet (cable or DSL) for this to be viable. It can "work" with lower-speed connections, but it will be very limited.

At first,you must have account to connect internet,after both side(home and DVR) have connect to Internet,then it's easy,perhaps you can do some setting on the router to forward some port. In normal,the manual in the DVR will tell you how to do that.

 

If you want to connect the DVR with ADSL via phone line,please check your DVR,perhaps it have no this function.

hi scorpion i got same problem with rabbitrob.. can i ask some question too ? what if ihave this two DVR computer in same LAN and i want to view them both at home using web browser or the client software of my dvr how can i configure them? thanks

When you get home open Video Viewer, and click on the add icon (the green plus sign).

 

Put in the ip address of the WAN IP address of the first DVR

(Use two different port numbers on each DVR in the menu>Advanced>Networking)

Insert the port number for the first DVR.

Question:

 

Will you use the same user name, and password on both DVRs, or would you use the same user name, but two different passwords, or two different user names, and two different passwords?

 

In video viewer type in the user name, and password of the first DVR.

 

In the comment section type in something that will help you name each DVR so that you can tell them apart.

 

Click on apply.

 

Click the add icon again, and insert the info of the second DVR.

 

Now you can log in to the first DVR. When the video comes up, you can then log in to the second DVR at the same time.

 

You can view all of the cameras at once, or you can page between the two DVRs.
