How do i set up IP cameras?

Hi,

 

Im new to IP cameras so please no technical camera talk. Im thinking of buying a few IP cameras but im not sure how to set them up. I know that i need ethernet cable ran to them (im going with wires) but where do they then go? Do i need some kind of extension for my computer to add more ethernet inputs? (im using a Mac) I know i need some software to record the cameras on my Mac but what software do i use? How do i make the cameras viewable from any where in the world?

Do you have any IT knowledge? Are these cameras for indoors or outdoors? What is your goal with this system?

if this is your first time with ip.... and your first time inserting cards into a pc then i would say .....dont do it .............it will cost you money and then more money and a bit more. here is an easy way for you have a look at the link. then have a talk with thewireguys on what your camera needs are. the dvr in the link i have one here and i have been testing it for over a week and you can run a 5mp camera

Oh yeah and the cameras are for around my home, 1 or 2 indoors and a few outside.

hi,i want to tell you,that is easy to install,just as a mini computer,it has the Lan ip,like 192.168.1.120,and http port like 80,and dns,and getway,so if you know the pc install,that is ok.
