Any US provider offering unlimited 3G data service?

Recommended Posts

Several people here are using grandfathered unlimited data accounts,

but that's cold comfort to me who's looking for a new setup. Anyone

know if any US provider will sell unlimited 3G data service for remote

monitoring of a DVR?

The ones I've seen charge extra beyond 5G per month, which isn't even

enough to allow 24/7 audio monitoring.

I just checked with T-mobile here in the US and they don't offer an aircard

with unlimited data; their "laptop" plan is 5G per month. They offer an

unlimited data for phones, but if the guy said that if you connected a laptop

it would have only about dialup bandwidth, which likely would not be

sufficient for remote monitoring.

Interesting..... I was just talking to an IT today about this..... Guest I am not gonna cancel my aircard at this point.

Just got off the phone with at&t I still an unlimited but if I change anything I will be capped.

This is gonna be a problem with remote setups

I've been searching for this too...

Cricket http://www.mycricket.com/broadband/

has unlimited but coverage is patchy, at best. It's not available in all areas, including mine. I believe they also throttle your bandwidth WAY down after you use 5meg. For our type of work this is worthless. I'd fly through 5 meg in a couple hours!

I have heard rumors that 3G will soon be outdated and the carriers are going to something new and faster. Maybe we'll see a come back of the unlimited plans? I sure hope so... I'm getting real tired of borrowing customers internet access....

Exactly what I was talking about! Didn't know it was rolling out yet... It seems like there was another runner up for new wireless data technology. Can't remember the name...

i keep having bus companies coming to us doing this but i forget to ask who they are using. everyone typically has the 5gb plan.

here are the options as i see them

1. use a 4g cell modem. sprint has unlimited plans for 4g. i suspect verizon will have similar early next year.

2. proper bandwidth utilization. for instance you can try this tool for axis

http://www.axis.com/products/video/design_tool/calculator.htm

i used a q7401 ntsc at record 24/7 for 30 days with

1 fps CIF H264 compression 50 and it came out to 4.6 GB.

maybe offline storage would help for the situation also? i know some instances where dvr has local storage + wifi/rf. when the unit comes within range of base router a server app automatically pulls off the storage video. i ran into this with some police stations. i.e. when patrol car pulled up to station house parking lot the video was pulled via wifi/rf to station house server.
