March Networks 3204 DVR

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has any info on the quality of DVR's from March Networks, such as the 3204 below? The local dealer we get all our CCTV stuff from offers these, but would like another opinion. Thx.

I am also curious what running an nmap on these Linux embedded devices would reveal open port wise. They use Linux embedded. I much prefer Linux over Windows.

No one here has used March Networks DVR's yet?

There are no front buttons at all, just a few pretty LED's and that's bout it. Everything is administered remotely via PC on the LAN, or serial port perhaps.

bad advertising?

...or you be meaning it jus 'good' advertising?

Not the bestest?

I get a ton of hits in the search engines, a few 'negative' ones so far. Something about h.263 attribution?? layoffs several years ago, etc.

No prices, noone selling them, hard to get pricing, they arent interested in selling their product outside of whoever they sell it to now .. no Distributors sell them ... at least not in the USA .. LOL

To answer the linux thing .. almost every stand alone embedded DVR is linux except for Kalatel .. I was interested but THEY just arent interested ..

ademco alarms good, ademco video, way over priced and noone uses them.

I use ademco alarms by the way, but would never touch ademco video.

I found one site so far with pricing from that list (end-user)... can't recall off hand which one though. Would have to look again.

Perhaps check with http://www.checkpointsystems.com/ for dealer pricing? When I was sending out emails for end-user pricing, they responded and said they are more of a 'business to business reseller'. Not sure if that be wut you want though. Prob be more like end-user pricing!

They are supposed to be pretty good DVR's. Buy why spend that kind of money on such a low profile company with overpriced toys.

They are in Ottawa which is about a 5 hour drive from here.

Some of their Case Studies seem impressive. Hamilton Health Sciences for one... to me anyway. They do more than just DVR's. They seem big into Health Care as well.

How does one actually know though what it is 'overpriced' though and what is not? What is the norm that you compare it to for similar Linux DVR's? $2500 CAD (end-user) for the basic 3204 model does seem high to me... but is that actually 'overpriced'?

I guess a lot of it has to do with what is available in the area and how it is pushed. After talking to the store I buy from, they told me it is typically an either Panasonic or March Networks (and Capture) solution end-users go with in this area... the end-users they deal with anyway.

BTW, they do not seem very low profile to me... no online pricing/stores yes... but otherwise, I would say not since they are public.

March is sold exclusively by about 3 firms nationally. Very stable enterprise units, mostly used in LARGE corporate headquarters and casinos. I agree, very hard to come by and very expensive starting prices. Through the grapevine, i hear that programming and setup protocols are almost complex enough to harness IP administrator expertise.

I liked the look of their wall mount DVRs, like for sticking in a closet, same type of case as alarm systems, which i installed for 6 years ..

But, yep, one rep contacted me, but wanted all kinds of information before I could get pricing .. i was like yeah right ... im not THAT interested ..

Anyway, PowerTellecom is coming out with an embedded board which I could essentially also use in an alarm type case, and stick it on the wall .. after some basic modification .. so will probably be going that route .. just need to get a couple more jobs ive bidded, over the next week or so .. then its all gravy
