Security CCTV business practices

Recommended Posts

I have a question for anyone who is in this industry of security & CCTV.

Is it normal practice to not give CD of the DVR card software to the client on a PC based system? Just the complete working pc based DVR & installation onsite?

Reason I ask, I have a new client with a dead hard drive DVR. I reinstalled Windows XP on a new drive, but no software for the DVR card.

maybe they lost or misplaced the CD/DVDs that came with the PC?

Normally they would place those in the motherboard box, or if it is a kind of OEM type DVR setup, they should at least have provided a Restore Disk that has everything on it. Should be able to get it from the internet though, which DVR is it?

I know with the Vigil DVRs, they image the operational system drive onto the data drive, then provide you a bootable CD with HDD diagnostic utilities, and the imaging software (PowerQuest Drive Image). If your system drive fails, you just swap in a new one, boot from the CD, and reimage the system.

The Vigil software is all freely downloadable from their website, and will run as a 30-day trial without registration codes.
