Do I need to use the RS-485 cable or would up-the-coax work?

Recommended Posts

I cannot recall off hand, but can I use 'up-the-coax' via RG59U to access setup menus and PTZ controls on older Panasonic cams (864A, 854B in particular)... or do I need to run a separate RS-485 cables to each cam? The 2 cams (864A and 854B) have those RS-485 cables/connectors, but I assumed it was for using another non-Panasonic DVR. I already have a Panasonic DVR (WJ-HD316) though.

I am prob going to run siamese RG59/U instead of CAT5E b/c I prefer the shielding of the coax cable.

Thx.
