Kablooie 0 Posted October 30, 2010 Does anyone know of a method whereby PC activity can be captured and recorded on a DVR via VGA output on the computer? I have a client for whom I maintain their POS system and we've caught recent employee theft at the register. They use different methods, but the most popular is ringing in an inexpensive item ($1) when a more expensive item is purchased ($10) and keeping $9 for themselves. We have a good shot of the POS area on video and have text overlay when the receipt prints (it's amazing how many customers don't want receipts - employees just throw them away). Yesterday he asked if there was a way we could capture the screen and record it on one of the video channels. I think it's a great idea. I thought about getting a tight shot of the computer screen with a camera, but it's too easy to block. I would rather be able to capture the video output from the PC so we can see exactly what's being rung in and play it side-by-side with the video of the POS area. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. We are not opposed to purchasing a new 8ch DVR system whether it be dedicated or PC based. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
shropna 0 Posted October 30, 2010 If POS monitor resolution is small (640x480, or 600x800) you can use just simple VGA to PAL (NTSC) converters. Like this: http://www.converters.tv/products/vga_to_pal/512.html And record signal on any DVR. If screen resolution is bigger, this will not work (text will be too small). In this case, if POS PC running on Windows, Mirasys has software solution to do screen encoding ant transmission via LAN and recording on Mirasys NVR. Kablooie 0 Posted October 30, 2010 shropna, thank you very much! I do believe this may work and would be a very simple solution. The screen resolution on the PC is 800x600. Now, why didn't I think of that? DOH I just did a little searching and have a local electronics retailer that carries PC to TV converters. In this case, if POS PC running on Windows, Mirasys has software solution to do screen encoding ant transmission via LAN and recording on Mirasys NVR. we have done this many times as a quick solution to pos. we use belkin vga to rca converters and we all so add a picture in picture box. this makes it much better as you have 2 images on one screen ....... till display and camera covering the counter. and your dvr will record it as a split screen.
